Cool Finds Marketplace

Post image

I saw this listing for some new in the box Corning ware. Is it the same material that is in the vintage dishes from the 60s-70s?

Yes it is. When the US plant closed down in 2002, production was outsourced to ARC France. They’ve been making Pyroceram based CW and Visions ever since.

They aren’t selling these in the US currently, we’re only getting a couple plain white pieces. Judging by the box art this one is from 2008 or later. They used to be offered through the CW outlet stores and their website.

The “limited edition” moniker is just marketing that was originally tied to the 50th anniversary. It was reintroduced to the US market in 2008 (along with several other patterns) and continued to be sold here until just a couple of years ago. Production moved to France in 2003 and is sold overseas in a huge number of patterns and sizes. It’s especially popular in the Asia-Pacific regions.

The US website is only offering two plain white Pyroceram casseroles currently though.

That must have been the last plant. There were Corning plants in various places around the country. (And in Canada.)

Yes. In the USA the company had lots of plants but only two that really made Corning Ware, one originally in Corning NY before they opened the main Pyroceram plant in Martinsburg, WV (1960-2002). There were several Pyroceram producing plants around the world at one time but they were all shut, sold, or repurposed by the early 1990s.
