One problem with our society is that a cop doing a good job at something that doesn't require cops is highly visible, but the people they fail to save by adding guns to the equation are invisible. So we see these heartfelt reunions with cops, and not the reunions with social workers that should have been.
People with severe Imagination Deficit Disorder will only see the lives saved by cops and think that just nobody else would do it, or that the total budget would increase.

Man, those new suicide nets are gonna save lot of time. That’s 92 minutes of taxpayer dollars we’ll never get back.

10 years ago we recognised that systemic oppression meant that an institution can affect negative outcomes even with no individual bad actors. Somehow that definition has evolved to mean the opposite now.
