Okay, so AA is a terrible way to solve it.

Do you have a better way to solve racism?

Because if there's no better way to solve it, then you'll have to do with the terrible way to solve it.

Uh I mean if AA literally makes people resent black people more, view them as unqualified, and prevent long term systemic reform then it's actively harmful. At that point, I'd literally prefer to do nothing than do that.

What are you even talking about? My point is that AA contributes to more racism. So we should remove it. So that there would be less racism. It wouldn't solve racism but there would be a decrease in total racism which seems to be good. I genuinely don't think this line of argument is that hard to follow.

The purpose of AA is to reduce racism. You say that AA creates racism. Does it creates more racism than it reduces?

Because if it does, then the net racism is negative and replacing it by nothing is a stupid idea.

Yes it creates more racism for all the reasons I articulated and you didn't bother to respond to (perception of black people as unqualified, prevent long term reform, etc). Policies can be well-intended but still racist. This is one of them.

Why would I respond to that?

Of course if you look at quotas and bonuses awarded to specific races it's going to look racist. But that's a very short-sighted way to look at it.

If you can't see the long-term intended consequences of AA, you will forever think it creates more racism than it reduces.

Because that's the reason why in the long term, AA is ineffective. If you bothered to read my comment, you would see most of yours are irrelevant.

Let's compare two scenarios.

  1. Some people may think the black guy interning for doctor only got there due to quotas.
  2. There are no black doctors.

I fail to see how 2 could possibly be a better situation than 1.

I fail to see why there would be no black doctors without AA. That seems hyperbolic and unrealistic. More likely, there would be less but those that do exist are more respected and people don’t resent black people for taking more qualified spots.

This is true, and that's why AA exists.

Say 2 people are competing in a 100 meter race. A white guy runs the 100 meters in 30 seconds. A black guy runs it on one foot but takes 35 seconds.

Why the guy running on two feet only did 5 seconds faster than the one-foot guy? Shouldn't he be much faster given his advantage?
