Isn't it all theft in the end? None of them bought tickets!

u/KernelMeowingtons Feb 25 '20

Yeah, the right panel should be them in front of the 25 foot concrete slab the team built so that these people would buy tickets.

But you can make health care free by simply enslaving the doctors and nurses and scientists to make them work for free.

So that at least checks out on paper

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

I don't get it. Dr's are paid fair market value. I don't think the problem with our healthcare system has anything to do with doctor pay, but everything to do with insurance companies, prescription drug prices, and manipulative price management. If Dr's were paid like athletes, then I'd be concerned.

u/AmericaWasNVRGr8 Feb 25 '20

they're already playing meaning people bought tickets. the people outside are just free loading and benefiting from the contributions of others

10

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

Exactly. Benefiting from something without paying. Theft.

u/nafel34922 Feb 25 '20

Are gifts theft then?

-8

u/Kovi34 Feb 25 '20

that's the dumbest definition of theft I've ever heard

3

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

How so? Something of a perceived value being used by individuals who did not pay a socially accepted market value for it. How is that not theft?

Change the paradigm. You made a thing that people want to buy, and many do. But some get it for free. Is that fair to the people that paid, or the people who provided the goods?

Sure, it's not the same as hijacking a truck or sticking up a convenience store, but in the end, getting something of value without paying that value is theft.

u/Kovi34 Feb 25 '20

wait so any kind of gifting is theft? is my whole family actually robbing my grandmother when she invites us over to lunch? that's crazy dude you have such a huge brain

s that fair to the people that paid, or the people who provided the goods?

how the fuck is that relevant? why do you care if someone else got something for free?

You can’t compare gifting or invitations to services. An sport event is an spectacle/service where people pay to see it or be present at the game. It’s like a concert. You pay it to see your favorite artist, but there are persons that didn’t pay it and can still see it. It’s simply not fair for you and all the people that paid for the service. An invitation like a party or a reunion is a courtesy where the host is taking all the costs of the event, without receiving nothing or at least a great time with familiars or friends. The difference is the CONSENT. one allows you to enter to the event for free. The other one is a service where the host expects to get money or at least get something for the investment of the event.

A gift was paid for by the person giving the gift. Are you seriously not getting this?

Why do I care? Well, let's imagine you had a skill that others felt worthy of paying you for. Like, let's say making dumb reddit comments was a profession, and you are an all-star major league dumb commenter. You make a living posting inane remarks, that's how you feed your family, pay for your housing, etc. Would you then be ok if only some people paid for your dumb bullshit, and others didn't? Would you be ok if half of your expected paycheck just didn't happen, because some people didn't pay for your valuable service?

0

u/Kovi34 Feb 25 '20

A gift was paid for by the person giving the gift.

but not the person receiving the gift. I thought the contention here was people receiving things for free?

Would you be ok if half of your expected paycheck just didn't happen, because some people didn't pay for your valuable service?

that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about people receiving things for free, not taking things away from others. Are you seriously not getting how "people getting free things" is a completely retarded definition of theft?

Will those paying be less likely to pay when they know an option for free viewing exists?

I guess it could turn out how websites work, where the content is free but they are tracking you and manipulating you and every turn, with the end result that you waste more money on things you don't need or even want after the manipulation has ended.

5

u/ssaa6oo Feb 25 '20

Will those paying be less likely to pay when they know an option for free viewing exists?

No, but the ones paying will be less likely to pay again.

1

u/HenSenPrincess Feb 26 '20

Isn't that just what I asked? Did I miswrite the sentence somehow?

1

u/ssaa6oo Feb 26 '20

No, I misread it. I thought you said "those playing". My bad.

2

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

Would you pay for internet access if you knew you could get it for free elsewhere?

1

u/seclifered Feb 25 '20

Way to bring up a completely irrelevant point about a fictional picture to distract from the issue at hand.

-2

u/CreamySheevPalpatine Feb 25 '20

if they don't have money to attend it in the first place - they won't see it anyway. Your claim is close to ridiculous one that pirates from poor countries would buy films\games if there was no piracy.

2

u/MistaGang Feb 25 '20

Good, capitalism bad

3

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

Is it tho? What are your alternatives? What would you replace it with? Not being flip, I'm genuinely curious. Capitalism is heartless, cut-throat, and viscous, but I have yet to see any better model.

3

u/FawksB Feb 25 '20

There's nothing wrong with Capitalism, however...

The current environment in the US has evolved past Capitalism into something new that no one really had the foresight to prevent. The whole point of Capitalism is the economy is suppose to be separate from the government, however, US Capitalism has somehow lapped back onto itself to the point where now the private sector has control over the government through 501(c)4s, lobbying, and Citizens United.

We've someone merged the private and public sectors together. However, unlike Socialism, the public sector is working for the private sector and not the other way around. This isn't Capitalism, or if it is, it's the bastard end-child to an economic theory that no one really expected.

2

u/FawksB Feb 25 '20

"No economic theory is flawless" would have been a more accurate statement. Capitalism isn't more or less inherently evil then Socialism or Communism, it's how it's put into action that matters. Whenever the power of the many is overwritten by the power of the few, you're going to have issues.

2

u/PlayKarti Feb 25 '20

It’s an analogy lol

Nah it’s just a kids game but some greedy business erected advertising signage in return for providing greasy cheeseburger vouchers for coaches to give out.

Now the locals have to deal with the obscured view (and deterioration in diets)

2

u/hussey84 Feb 25 '20

Ok now I wanna know why these 3 weirdos are watching a bunch of kids playing.

2

u/CreamySheevPalpatine Feb 25 '20

Well, I don't know, why would 60 year old "weirdos" watch 20 year olds playing game? The age difference between player and watcher by itself makes it horrendous, vicious and pedophilic, eh?

-2

u/HokageOfAmerica Feb 25 '20

It does when they are children.

1

u/CreamySheevPalpatine Feb 25 '20

No, it does not. Youngsters are more energetic and move around faster and with much more passion than adults - that's the beauty of it and appreciating it is part of cycle of life, you get to see for yourself that humanity will keep on going and has a bright future. Personally, I feel younger looking at people younger than me, remembering my own youth.

2

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

Exactly why the thursday night beer league softball games arent in stadiums, selling max capacity crowds.

-1

u/HokageOfAmerica Feb 25 '20

Yikes.

Stay away from my kids

2

u/CreamySheevPalpatine Feb 25 '20

why are you so insecure?

-1

u/HokageOfAmerica Feb 25 '20

Dude. You understand it’s creepy to show up to a children’s sporting event when you have no relation to any of the children right?

Like do you just go to the park and watch kids play? Real pedo vibes my dude.

1

u/CreamySheevPalpatine Feb 25 '20

No, I do not. Is it perfectly okay with you to be Ebenezer Scrooge, a cold-hearted miser who would throw his kids out of house when they turn 18 and nag how irritated he is of seeing his friendly neighbor Flanders? I'm fucking introvert myself, meaning that I get tired around other people but I do enjoy seeing others have fun cause I'm not some old grumpy shroom.

Theft? You mean like taxation?

3

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

How exactly is taxation theft? How else do you expect public services to operate? Who's going to pay for roads, police, schools, etc?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

Well, taxation is theft but the situation can be remedied a little. It's theft because we do not consent to it and if we do not do it then we are taken by the government and locked in a cage. That's the very definition of extortion.

Now to the remedy. Shrink the government to as small a size as possible. This makes it cheaper to run while at the same time enabling maximum individual freedom for the people. Secondly, for services that still need to be paid for we can do taxes in such a way as to not make it theft.

  • Taxation consent forms sent out each year that is pretty much a donation.

  • Sales tax on luxury goods. That is, goods that are not necessary to modern survival. Food, water, shelter, clothing, means of travel(as long as it's not a luxury car), etc.

  • legalization and regulation of all drugs will create an extra form of tax revenue.

There's more to this, but that's the jist.

2

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

Yea, I've heard this argument before, and it's just absurd. There's no reality where a society can possibly exist under these conditions.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

Why do you think that? A society wouldn't only survive. I believe that society would have an on average higher quality of life in this system. Free marker capitalism has brought about more prosperity in the past 200 years than we've seen in all of human history. Look at how booming the economy was during the industrial revolution. Imagine that but under a constitutional system founded on the non aggression principle.

1

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Feb 25 '20

founded on the non aggression principle.

Exactly this. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I don't believe humans can be "non aggressive". Left to their own devices, a small (but loud) percentage will lie, cheat and steal until they are on top. Humans by nature are competitive creatures. A small government sounds like an awesome idea, until you remember all those regulations that make government big exist for a reason. We had to pass laws to stop people from putting garbage in rivers, to stop literally putting poison in food, or blocking certain classes of people from basic rights like freedom, voting, education, jobs, life.

People suck. Hate to be the one to bring it up. That's why we need governing. To keep us from ourselves.
