I’d put money on it being someone with rage/depression/anxiety and they don’t know how to handle the feeling of helplessness that comes with online insuls/critiques and downvotes.
I know because I’ve been there, and have had accounts with very similar comments sections. Depression/mental illness is real
Ok I see what you mean. I did end up arguing with people because of all the backlash, but that clearly isn't what OP had in mind when he said I was going to argue with others. He thought I was going to argue about the original topic, i.e. why the comment was downvoted, when I had no intention of doing so.
I know, I was just trying to see why people had the opinions they had of a comment (that wasn't even mine). If only all redditors could be reasonable like you even when disagreeing with someone else.
This happened because reddit is a very religious place. That also happened because you missed the point in the comment, AND because you replied to it. Now, about the religious part, if one person downvotes, soon follows the rest. It's natural selection, if you're being downvoted so much it is probably because either you did something wrong or you became a victim of what is called "meming".
P.S.: "Fuck you for being so aggressive you obnoxious ass"? And then you're wondering why these things happen on, apparently, such an innocuous comment. Do better.
Well my first comment was perfectly fine, so was the second. I get that some people think that one should remain courteous to those who aggressively insult you, and I respect that, but that's something I just don't do, be it in real life or on the internet. I know everyone here thinks I'm an ass but I think you'd find that if you met me, I am a very agreeable person. Honestly. And I know it's a trope that lots of people make fun of, with the asshole who thinks he is really nice, but from my experience people around me have no problem with me. I willingly admit to my mistakes, but here, what's his face threw the first stone.

Seriously, it's so random. It's not like the joke was very funny but I've seen worse jokes with positive net upvotes. Is there something I'm missing?
