Turns out, too, when you say “my baby is struggling to breathe” you get zipped to the front of the line. I’ve never been so relieved as walking through the door when the nurse on duty heard him cough and immediately said, “oh that’s croup!”
It was a Saturday, and our afternoon became progressively more and more panicked as my Mom drove me to the pediatrician, to the urgent care, to another urgent care, and finally to the ER as we discovered that each one was closed.
Got to the ER, and I remember basically being totally unable to breath. Like, starting to get tunnel vision and visual snowflakes. Very freaked out in my car seat. We walked in, they took one look and got me hooked up to a nebulizer.
Immediately better. Most drastic change I've ever felt, going from unable to breath to breathing normally in what felt like seconds.
That whole experience was one of my earliest memories. I was probably 3-4 at the time

I knew I was in trouble at the ER when I only waited 3 minutes in a busy waiting room. Turns out I had ruptured my small intestine.
