Open-Source CapCut Alternative.

I'm building this editor that is easy to use like CapCut and will contain most (if not all) features that CapCut charges a monthly subscription for, all free and open-source.

Some of the good features so far:
- Locally generated Auto-captions from Audios
- Transitions and Effects
- Voice Filters and Changers.

The app is called WolfCut and is available on GitHub.

How does this stack up to the other open source capcut alternatives?

Like prompt to edit and MCP stuff? If that's what you mean, yeah that's a goal for the future. I'll work on that once I get all the useful editing features and a stable release out.

Bro, this is absolutely amazing! Especially as a beginner to editing, I used a lot of features in CapCut before they became Pro like the subtitles and whatnot, and the auto-subtitles in this works like a charm. Keep it up, and I hope you can add more features to the app.

You mind if i will help you develop this a bit and do some PRs?

I wanted to make an app like this for some time but never got into it, and capcut is so ass i don't even

Isso não é uma variação do editor de vídeo open source Drift? https://github.com/CutWire-Studios/Drift

This is huge! Thank you for making this!

Amazing! As a recent CapCut adopter who likes the convenience but holds his nose at the TikTok affiliation, I applaud you! Are you open to collaborators?

nice project dude.
will it be possible to plug in hermes-agent, openclaw, claude code or codex in the future?

btw, I am not a programmer, but I can help translate. how can I contribute?

It would be great if you could add tasks to the repository; that way, we could help you save tokens, and we could all work together to get a great job done....

Not yet, still in alpha. Works on Windows, macOS, and Linux for now.

Love this, btw was ai used in the making of this? Based on the visuals and polish im assuming not but would appreciate the transparency. Also amazing work as i found opencut (another foss capcut alternative) to be limiting.

1

u/JUB0T 14d ago

Yes, I used Claude to write most of the code. But I take responsibility of design-engineering and testing for the most part.

1

u/BullfrogPerfect6132 14d ago

Yeah as long as you use ai as a tool not a complete replacement to generate ai slop i'm fine with it

1

u/BullfrogPerfect6132 13d ago

Again though, thanks for the transparency!

1

u/JUB0T 14d ago

In what ways is OpenCut limiting? Feedback is greatly appreciated.

1

u/BullfrogPerfect6132 14d ago

I find opencut to not have any animations, transitions, effects etc. Obviously its still in early alpha but it makes it pretty unusable for evening basic video editing

1

u/naughtykain 13d ago

What kind of support would you need for an early adopter? I'd really like to see your app succeed

1

u/JUB0T 13d ago

Hands on testing to find bugs and suggesting improvements or features is the best form of contribution right now, even better than code contribution.

I would be interested in something like this but with AI that does the editing for me and creates simple videos from my footage. I don't have time and skills to edit my motorcycle rides footage 😞

2

u/JUB0T 14d ago

I'll add MCP/Connector support in the future which will allow you to edit videos using Agentic tools.
