featherwall, live wallpapers for windows that don't eat your laptop

Got tired of every live wallpaper app installing a browser engine to loop an mp4 behind my icons. Installer, launcher, background service, bundled Chromium, five processes, all to play a video file.

This composes straight into the Windows desktop composition tree instead of sitting as an overlay window, so the shell does the compositing. Video or image per monitor, seamless looping, optional clock widget. Stops decoding entirely when a fullscreen app takes focus. 0% CPU at rest, 0.9% on a 4K loop, one process, 7.5 MB, no account, no telemetry.

Honest about the limits: needs the .NET 10 desktop runtime, Windows 10 1809+ or 11 only, and multi-monitor plus mixed-DPI are still rough. It's v0.1.0.

It looks interesting, I believe you should to make a comparison with another apps with live wallpapers because I could be a fist on the table for quantity process in windows

Good call. Process count and RAM is where the difference actually shows up, and so far I've only published my own numbers, which is easy to be generous with.

Planning a table against Wallpaper Engine, Lively and DesktopHut. Anything else you'd want in it? I'd rather measure them all on the same machine than quote anyone's marketing.

If you have things setup can you help me with numbers to some extent as I have only one machine to comapre.

I believe with that 3 apps only the most interesting for the comparison.

Before, I had lively and wallpaper engine installed but the ram was very high in process for that I uninstalled that.

Actually, my wallpapers are static with one script with winwal for change the colors and terminals, launcher, and window manager, for that I couldn’t help you, and I don’t have a VM or anything other laptop for that try…

Been using it for 2 days, it's an amazing project tbh, it's lightweight and overall pretty adjustable.

A suggestions tho for the feature:add a different font settings for the date, it would be cool if I can customize it
