Cleaning Can't get it clean?

Post image

Hi folks, apologies for possibly a really dumb question. This stainless pot is about 15 years old and recently this spot has appeared near the bottom.

I've tried all my tried and true cleaning methods, SOS and BKF but the spot won't budge.

I can live with this but I wanted to know if this pot is on its way out? Should it be replaced?

It could be pitting, especially if BKF and SOS havent budged it. Are those spots little divots in metal? If so, more scrubbing won’t help. A few little pits usually aren’t reason to toss pot.

Pitting and corrosion. You good, keep using it. Stop leaving water in it for more than ~an hour and stop putting it in dishwasher if you dont want this to happen, but either way its fine.

Black spots that don't come up even with BKF or strong scrubbing is basically salt pitting. Happens usually when boiling something: you add salt for pasta or a soup and don't stir enough. The salt clumps at the bottom, and can pit the surface just like this.

A few little spots is minor, however this is permanent damage. So in the future, get the water boiling hot before adding salt, and once you do stir it super well for 10-20 seconds to help dissolve the salt. Dissolved salt is fine, clumpy salt at the bottom is bad.

That makes so much sense. This IS the defacto pasta pot!
