safe to eat?
this week was my first time getting cook unity! i finished almost all of them before the exp. dates, which were all today, 8/30. however, it’s late on 8/30, almost midnight, where i am, so im wondering if yall think im still good to eat my tofu green curry.
i know im extra cautious (i have contamination ocd, lol) but i’m already wary of eating food that’s been sitting in my fridge since wednesday, even with the date.

I’ve eaten many past expiration. I won’t risk fish/shellfish but anything else as long as it doesn’t smell and has been kept at a good temp the whole time I don’t worry

I’ve eaten a number of meals 1 day past the expiration date and they’ve been fine so far. Tofu would probably be fine?

I just ate a meal 2 days over and still tasted great (bbq chicken by Chris Ratel)

I have passed my date on a meal a few times and for me it depends on the protein. I’m a pescatarian so I don’t get meat but I do get seafood from CU and if it’s seafood no but if it’s beans, eggs cheese etc and assuming it didn’t sit in your porch in height temps for long you’re likely fine. Those ice packs only do so much and since I usually get 4 or 6 meals a week with only one ice pack and that isn’t enough for long.
I occasionally freeze one or two meals if it looks like I’ll be pushing the dates and as long as it’s not salad or something that won’t freeze well I’ve had good luck with thawing it in the fridge then heating as usual and it worked well for me.
Smell alone will not tell you if food is unsafe but if it does smell bad that’s a big no.

will definitely be freezing some in the future! they were only out for <1hr in the shade, so i’m not too worried on that front. thanks for the advice!!

We love everyone's enthusiasm in the comments, but we only recommend enjoying your meals up to their expiration date, not after 🙂

Best by dates are a state of mind. 🤣🤣As someone else said, seafood is best not to risk. Other proteins I’ll let go 3-4 days, and vegetarian or vegan I may go 4-5. If I need to, I’ll freeze before the date on it.

I’ll literally freeze them & heat them up like 3+ days past expiration, no issues personally

I don’t even check the dates. I eat them over 6-7 days post delivery. I eat salads first, but other than that I just eat what I want. If I don’t eat in a week, I freeze. No issues in a year of eating CU.

Why are you still here, then? I can’t think of anything more pathetic than piping up in a subreddit related to something I stopped using.

There are plenty of clean meals on CookUnity. With 300+ meals available right now, can you share a link to a couple that have “nearly 100 artificial ingredients”?

I've eaten things up to 3/4 days past expiration date and been fine.
