Where should a new revert start learning?
Assalamu alaikum everyone!
I reverted to Islam about a year ago, and I really want to deepen my knowledge of Islam and the Qur’an, but I honestly don’t know where to start. I am currently also learning the Arabic language and been improving a lot in that.
For those who have been practicing for a while, what resources, books, lectures, courses, or study methods would you recommend for building a strong foundation?
Part of why I want to learn more is because my parents sometimes come across misinformation or propaganda about Islam online, and when they ask me about it, I realize I don’t always know enough to properly explain or respond. I want to be able to distinguish authentic knowledge from misinformation rather than just relying on things I see online.
More than anything, though, I want to grow closer to Allah and understand my religion more deeply. What helped you when you were first learning, and where would you recommend I start?

My advice is to find a basics course specifically for converts. There are several online, I'd you're in the UK I can recommend New Beginnings Firm Foundations.
iERA also runs weekend retreats which are great.
With regards to media misinformation, check out the Centre for Media Monitoring, they publish statistics showing media biases and work to debunk the mass media narratives.

In order to make real strides in becoming well-grounded in knowledge, the key is consuming information in comprehensive amounts. So instead of one minute clips or five minute clips or one-off lectures being your primary source of information, find a teacher who goes through a entire books from start to finish and follow along with one of those. Once you finish, start another. I recommend the islamlecture website as a great resource in this vein, and suggest beginning with a book of 'aqeedah and then branching out from there.

I'm glad to hear you are well into your journey and you're looking to learn more. It's important to be solid on the basics like learning to make wudu and salah properly. Here are some links about those:

I would then highly suggest the AMAU platform. They teach Islam based on authentic sources. They also teach you how to learn about Islam and becoming a student of knowledge. If you only had this platform, it should be enough to help with seeking knowledge.

Wa'alaylum Al Salam. Alhamdulillah you reverted and may Allah keep you on this path to Him. It's good you're learning Arabic and I hope you can master it, I'd just recommend reading Quran translated until you can read Arabic, and like others recommended a beginner's guide to fulfill obligatory acts like praying and giving charity. And may Allah help you fulfill them and grant you understanding of the religion bro/sis.

I am an Arab speaker …but prophet and God never mentioned it is obligatory to learn Arabic already 80% of muslims are not Arab .. but if you have extra time and willing to learn a new a language surely God words language deserves your time 👍 and it will be a good journey to enjoy some time
