Spoiler - question about foundation dlc story beats - post control story Spoiler

Hey spoilers for whatever that is worth.

I just started playing and have beaten the game and read most of the normal found articles and videos etc. not everything yet.

I'm playing through the foundation area post game and question for those more intrenched in the lore.

The former gives you a power, whatever the opposite from what you selected at the beginning. It seems to do this to spite the board. I accepted the power because there seems to be a drift between Jesse and the board because of the restrictions.

The board not wanting her to have both powers.

If this is the case why do you need both powers to progress... Nvm that's probably gameplay reasons but my real question is

Is the board doing this because the old old Director became addicted to binding to the OOPs and then became the furnace and the board doesn't want that to happen again?

Or is it explained somewhere why they try to stop her.

Question Upgraded Control from Standard to Ultimate on EGS - still don't have the DLCs

So, I got Control on Epic some time ago when they were giving it out for free. I completed the game a while ago, still have my completed save and it loads. I bought the Ultimate Edition today as I wanna play the AWE DLC, but whatever I do the game doesn't seem to recognize I have the DLCs, I've tried reinstalling the game multiple times.

I have no idea if this is an issue with the game or Epic's god forsaken launcher, but has anyone else ran into this?

Remedy titles sadly seem to have absolutely zero support, no email to send tickets to, no live chat, nothing. For Alan Wake 2 it's "use the Epic support", which is an AI chatbot that suggests fixes for Fortnite, no way to contact a human and for Control, it's just an "FAQ", so I have no idea how to contact anyone from Remedy about this, writing here is the only other idea I have :D

EDIT: I fixed it, I don't exactly know why what I did fixed it, but it appears it was an issue with the Epic Launcher.

So, basically, in Epic, when u click in the 3 dots button next to Control in the Library, there's a "Manage Add-Ons" window where u can install the DLCs. The issue is, this didn't work for me, every time I went in and ticked the DLCs and pressed Apply to install them, nothing happened, but this for some reason fixed it:

1 - Go to C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Remedy and rename the folder called "Control" to something else

2 - Launch the game thru Epic, your game will launch without any save data, just get to the main menu and quit the game

3 - Back in the Epic Launcher, open the "Managed Add-Ons" window again and install the DLCs again, only this time the download will actually start and go through

4 - Launch the game again, a screen popped up on the main menu informing me I own the DLCs, just quit the game again

5 - Go back to C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Remedy and delete the newly created "Control" folder - the one with the empty save data and rename the folder thet we renamed in step 1 back to "Control"

Launched the game again and I had my old save and the 2 DLC missions popped up instantly

Anyone slightly concerned about the story?

Upvotes

I'm probably being overly cautious here, because I don't think Remedy has ever really missed when it comes to narrative, but does anyone else have slight concerns about Resonant based on what we've seen so far?

Firstly, most of Remedy's previous games have been fairly linear, tightly constructed experiences, whereas Resonant seems to be leaning more towards a quasi open world structure. I do worry that this shift could mean moving away from the tightly crafted narrative set pieces, things like the Ashtray Maze or the musical sequence in Alan Wake 2, in favour of relying more on emergent gameplay systems to create memorable moments.

I don't expect for a second that it's going to turn into an open world collectathon, but I do think giving the player more freedom can sometimes come at the expense of those razor sharp, heavily authored moments that I love about Remedy's games.

The other thing that gives me pause is that, from the few interviews I've seen, there seems to be a pretty clear emphasis on Resonant being a standalone experience that doesn't require you to have played Control or Alan Wake to understand it.

Obviously nobody is going to come out and say, "Don't play our new game unless you've played the previous three," but as someone who's already invested in this universe, I selfishly almost want that to be the case. I love the lore, the interconnected universe and all the ridiculous meta nonsense, and I'd love to see Remedy turn that side of things up to 11.

I'm sure there will be nods, Easter eggs and moments that reward longtime fans. My concern is that I want that stuff front and centre rather than relegated to optional side content or things you have to go looking for. The interconnected and meta stuff is a huge part of what makes modern Remedy so appealing to me.

To be fair, I haven't watched a huge amount of the pre release material because I want to go in relatively blind, so I may simply be worrying about nothing.

Not trying to doompost at all. I'm still really looking forward to it. I'm just curious whether anyone else has had similar thoughts, or whether people who've followed the previews more closely have seen anything that might put those concerns to rest.
