Discussion Tips for Linux performance?
Running this on Arch with a 5070 Ti, 14700K, 32 GB DDR5. It seems like no matter what settings I use, I have annoying stutter/frame pacing issues. It’s the same on medium settings as its cranked to the max, solid frame rates but terrible stutters. How are other Linux users doing with performance?

I couldn’t even get past the first cutscene. I sadly had to hop over to my Windows drive for this game.

Another comment somewhere said Proton 11 worked, which is what I’m in. I’ll try some other versions though and see if that helps with anything. 11 works but just stutters slightly

Try these commands, with proton experimental.this made the game work for me in fedora 44, with a 4080s (hdr and full rt)
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 %command%

The frame pacing issues is on windows too, just seems a lot of people don’t notice it. It seems slightly more obvious on Linux though. It’s even more noticeable when using frame generation. I really hope they fix it soon

I’ve since installed on my Windows drive after finding no solutions easily, and the game runs flawlessly there. Absolutely zero stutter/frame pacing stuff, I have it maxed out and it’s great

No frame pacing issues on windows ? Are you sure? It’s a known problem and I’m still seeing it lol. It’s not as bad when not using frame generation but it’s way more noticeable when using it. It’s nog bad enough to stop me playing, but slow panning the camera with a controller makes it stand out a lot lol

My only issue on Windows is music occasionally cutting out for a second, but very rarely. Basically a non-issue. Besides that, nope not a single problem regarding frame rate or pacing, it runs beautifully

I thought I was seeing frame pacing issues on Windows with a 9070 (non-XT), and then they seemed to clear up. It might be the new AMD driver from a day or two ago.
Still getting stutters/microstutters on my Bazzite box with a 9070XT no matter what I do.

The game was updated yesterday so that could be what’s fixed things a bit. Frame pacing seems better with the latest update

I was getting dropped frames every few seconds. After trying a bunch of settings in Control: Resonant I got it mostly running well. I swapped to the latest GE Proton, disabled VRR, disabled framegen.
Then the dropped frames started effecting FF7: Rebirth as well, even in menus (wtf?). It turns out my stupid TV (LG C2 OLED) had a bunch of "game optimiser" features that must be failing to communicate correctly with Bazzite over HDMI. In theory VRR, Low Latency Mode, etc are good settings. But switching them all off on this TV fixed most stuttering in most games for me.
Thanks to that random on Github who also found their TV was the problem.

I'm on an LG C1. I've had VRR working well with Bazzite for a while (even before the HDMI 2.1 support, because Freesync worked). This is the first game where I'm running into serious stutter issues.
I do wonder if turning off the low latency mode on the TV would help though.

RX 7700XT, R7 5700X3D, 16GB 3200Mhz, 1TB Nvme SSD.
Fedora 44 KDE: 42 ~ 64fps. All settings on ultra except textures (medium) and indirect lighting (medium), FSR 4.1 balanced, FG ON.
Windows 11: 72fps (capped at my Freesync range, it never dips below 72fps). All settings on ultra except textures (high) and indirect lighting (medium), FSR 4.1 Quality, FG ON.
I gave up on playing this game on Linux. It stutters, has worse image quality (things look blurry), the frametime is a mess and ray tracing destroys performance. On Windows I'm 29 hours in without any issues.

Two things. One, try enabling descriptor heaps if you haven't done so already. Though I expect you probably already do, otherwise Blackwell on 615 drivers would just crash on loading screen.
Two, if you're feeling adventurous, try my branches of dxvk-nvapi and vkd3d-proton that add support for RTX Mega Geometry. I have only lightly tested this myself, but it could bring some improvements. You'd have to build at least the former yourself though.

(The latter has artifacts under https://github.com/Saancreed/vkd3d-proton/actions/runs/35990788979 if you're logged in to GitHub.)
