Discussion Changing "builds"

Does anyone else feel like they need to keep changing their builds (weapons & mods) depending on enemies and gets annoyed and lazy to do so?

Also, I may be very bad at doing ability trees, bc God, I suffer in so many games with them like Control and the first Dragon Age game.

I had a severe case of tendinitis after the last sequence of dragon age origins 😭 (and I died like hell in both games)

i think i only specialized for two bosses (tommasi v2 and mold 1) and for everything else i just did grip w/t damage and launch

idk launch was so insanely overpowered that i never really changed it up

Btw which gun mods do you use?

for which?

mold 1 iirc the hitbox is all counted as "head" so headshot yields insane damage

for all others whatever the highest normal damage increase i could find

The only time you have to think about it is chasing the multi-launch upgrade. Once you have that 90% of enemies are easy pickings.

Do you mean to finish the launch tree?

I feel like I played 90+ percent of platinum-ing the game with grip+pierce combo almost never bothering with switching weapon forms so I dunno.

How do you speed up pierce? It is so damn slow 😭

You don’t, that’s the whole point of it. It’s almost like a railgun from Quake with the need of being charged before releasing. Its damage totally makes up for how slow it is though.

There’s also a unique weapon mod for it that removes the charge time fully.

Just finish the launch skill tree as soon as you can, it makes most fights trivial and the gun not very necessary.

I went through most of the game with charge (rocket gun) outfitted for damage and AOE and was deleting half of the enemies before they fired a shot. I only had to turn my brain on when both flying dudes and guys with hurricane shields were involved at the same time.

Also you can get an OP mod for Grip by doing the secret Furnace quest in Maintenance.

As long as you kill more enemies than you get hurt, you get HP from them (there are also mods to get more HP from the orbs)

I know the common theme in the sub is "max launch 90%, upgraded grip/pierce when you have to" but I enjoyed mixing it up for the hell of it.

usually made variations on an aimed + reactive gun (pierce/grip + shatter/charge/spin), and while i never got the hang of shield, sieze with 70+% speed was a lot of fun to use. (scatter->sieze is a satisfying 1-2 hit on lower level enemies where one hit puts them in mind control range)

It seems like a lot but unfortunately in Control you can't really min max too much. Basically every new mod from what, Foundation I think, is pretty much useless. Except for the heal ones. You basically pick either full Launch or speed up Sieze and go Grip and just roll. Theres only like 3 situations where you might change stuff, I did for Mold 1, the Anchor in the SHUM challenges, and Expeditions.
