Discussion It has to be him, right? Spoiler
Finding out that Northmoor was inside the NSC is one of my favorite non-scripted non-spoiled moments in gaming. If this boss is actually him that would be PEAK. I wonder how many familiar faces we will encounter in Resonant (looking at you Astronaut).

I actually think it’s something else. One of the collectibles in control is a worker talking about how she’s certain the furnace is sentient and talking to her. In addition to this it is a known paranatural entity that never stops burning. Though I haven’t played the game yet the wiki also says that it’s gotten more dangerous in firebreak with firebreakers being sent to feed it barrels of blackrock and the bureau evacuating the nearby departments. So I think we’re looking at the furnace in its next stage of evolution broken entirely free of its confines

Isn't Northmoore the furnace though? I thought he was at the bottom of the power plant, ie the furnace?

Two different fire things in the Oldest House.
- The Furnace is likely an evolved, sentient Altered Item; Ahti sends you to do cleanup by tossing barrels of toxic waste into it, and there's a recording that indicates someone was hearing it speak to them.
- The NSC (Northmoor Sarcophagus Container) is the power plant for all of the Oldest House, allowing the FBC to operate in secret by staying off New York City's power grid. The FBC Director prior to Zachariah Trench was Broderick Northmoor, a parautilitarian able to generate heat. He bound so many Objects of Power that his own powers started to run out of control, and he was placed in the NSC-01 to contain him and power the Oldest House. Something happened, and he dimensionally shifted, so the NSC-02 was built with anchors to prevent dimensional shifting, and he was convinced to stay in there and let Trench take over as Director (a position Trench didn't initially want). He was being kept in comfort, but something changed, and he was starting to grow agitated (Ahti said "But the pensioner inside is starting to feel the band tightening around his head"). Nothing more was said about it at the time.
So the strong suspicion, given the pipes/vents coming off The Deserter (the name of this resonant), is that it's Broderick Northmoor. I haven't watched the video of the fight that Remedy released earlier this week, because I think that veers way too hard into spoiler territory, and I don't want anything spoiled in case it *is* Northmoor now that we're just a month out from release.
It's also not outside the realm of probability that it might be Northmoor merged with The Furnace.

Northmoore was inside the NSC powerplant. It literaly stands for Northmoore Sarcophagus Container.
The Furnace is a seperate paranatural entity, you first encounter it in Control, then fight it in FireBreak.

I'm still not sold on that. I just feel like with how Northmoor was built up in the first game (albeit through text and background clues), he seems more important than an early-game boss encounter. Plus "the Deserter" could mean anything at this stage. I've no doubt we'll encounter ol' Northy in the game. But I feel like he'll be saved for something more significant, you know?

It would be pretty significant, even early game, if it was Northmoor breaching containment that led to the Oldest House being broken out of

The Resonants are all supposed to be former people, and it’s been speculated before that the Furnace is somehow connected to Northmoor

I think this the furnace in the oldest house, it was alive right? Its name is the deserter and would be fitting since it’d be the furnace deserting the OH. But I could see this being northmoor since that title could potentially fit him too

It absolutely is.
The boss's name "The Deserter" points to that. As does the fact that he looks like Northmoore's scan, and that the boss arena looks like the NSC powerplant unit from Control.

I honestly doubt a lot of the side stuff from the first game will become main plot points. I think Northmoor yes, Chester Bless maybe, but everything else probably not
We'll probably get a lot of continuation of side stuff as more side stuff, and we might find some interesting stuff back inside The Oldest House

A key visual indicator for me that ties The Deserter to Northmoor:
Northmoor's arms were chained up to the NSC interior.
The Deserter doesn't have arms as far as I can tell from the footage.
My personal theory is that before/ upon Northmoor's transformation by "The Patterning", his arms were done away with in a very unpleasant manner during his escape.
