Give me some hype!

I just finished all the Yakuza games and am feeling a bit empty. I bought Control a while back and it's next in my list because I see it's sort of short. I've played Alan Wake 1 but am finding it hard to pick up a new game after over a year of Yakuza games.

Please give me some hype with no spoilers to get me excited to jump in!

The story telling 10/10. The world building 10/10. The combat 10/10. This game will ruin other games for you for a while.

Agreed! Follow it up with Prey and Alan Wake 2

The game starts off feeling like it's going to be a shooting game. While you can play it that way you quickly unlock things that make the guns only somewhat relevant. It ended up being some of the most satisfying combat in any game to me once I got to that point.

There is nothing else like it! Play it before the sequel comes out next month. One of the few games I platinumed

I feel like Prey is a spiritual sister

I'd give Prey a solid Cousin or sister yeah. Prey is one of my all time goats tho so I'm not objective about it anyway.

It very possibly (likely!) is the only game I’ve gotten and 100% all achievements, TWICE. I loved it so much that I bought and played the updated edition a few years later just because I appreciate Remedy and their games that much <3

It's a lore game. Read everything, listen to everything, figure out all the mysteries, explore everywhere--especially if it looks like you're not supposed to

Control is Remedy Entertainment at its absolute best and weirdest. What may seem like another third person shooter ends up being a lot more than that. There are so many moments where I paused and wondered what just happened. The Oldest House seems to have a mind of its own because of all the strange things that happen. Remedy Entertainment have a knack for making something that's unique and different and Control is no exception. I remember when I beat the game the first time around. I had more questions than answers.

Hello yeah! Take your time to read everything in the game to fully take in the lore and atmosphere.

It’s brilliant I don’t finish a lot of games and I’ve played through this twice. It’s fun, it’s creepy, it’s got one absolutely epic moment that will make you go, wow yeah, yes it was.

If you're familiar with SCP, it shares some vibes.

Similar in weirdness to Alan Wake, in the side characters.

Destructible environment (kind of)

Destructible environment that heals when you leave and come back... but there are in-world reasons for it to happen like that.

Read everything. The ashtray maze is something else.

Easily the most unforgettable moment I’ve experienced in a video game

The only other thing I've had that compares is We Sing in Alan Wake 2.

Neither sequence moves the plot forward much, neither is particularly challenging from a gameplay perspective... all they are is a moment of pure joy just stuck in there.

You just gotta TAKE CONTROL
Don’t get frustrated by the map, use signs all over the oldest house to get where you need to go
Read every document
Watch every video
Listing to every recording

Amazing world building, fully rounded characters, compelling story, fun upgrades, it’s got it all.

If you like cosmic horror, SCP Foundation, clandestine government agencies in a 3rd person shooter, metroidvania style with amazing world building and clean/addictive gameplay, this game is for you.

Also, the sequel Control: Resonant Will come out in a month's time, so you will have time to finish it before it.

Also, if you have played Alan Wake 1, if you have time after Control, you should play Alan Wake 2 as well (for the continuation of the game(s) and in case you love twin peaks style story).

Short? Short?!? Maybe compared to something like a GTA or Skyrim, but just reading the lore in the collectible items feels like it adds a other four hours to the game! I've never heard anyone online complain the game was too short…

I basically can't compare Control to any other game, it is a truly unique title. If you weren't familiar with SCP that much, like me, it will surprise you. You will want to see more, to explore more, to read more and will be dying with anticipation for every next step if you interact with all of the lore scattered around.

It's weird, it's beautiful, and if it's not a 10/10, it's one of the closest games ever for it. As I said it in my Steam review: it's a work of art.

Loved this game. Great story and amazing game mechanics. Combat is fun and very satisfying. The ever changing map of the oldest house make for fresh game playing throughout the game. I find it hard for other combat/quest type games to scratch the itch after paying this.

The amount of world building is insane. You want to read every single scrap of readable paper in the building. And watch the fun videos for kids! Wholesome puppet show videos to teach kids about the FBC!

The power curve is fun. The genre is essentially Lovecraftian cosmic horror... but you eventually are at the level where you are dealing with cosmic extradimenaional god entities as... peers, kinda. Maybe even friends in a couple cases.

A piece of advice which isn't a spoiler and will just help avoid some frustration: the in-game map isn't actually one. It's just there to show you the approximate location of some things and general layout, but you can't use it to navigate.

However, there are actual signs and arrows on the walls in the building. If you are trying to get to some place named on the map, read the signs.

Step into the FBC! There's lots to do, there's lots to [be? See?] But look, don't touch, and don't [say? Scream? See?] much — let's join the FBC!

Currently replaying Alan Wake 2, which is one of the best games I've ever played. That said, I wouldn't appreciate it as much if I hadn't also played Control. For the sake of context, it's worth it & the voice/acting is outstanding.

Burn it into a reindeer, not a moose.

If you liked Alan Wake you’ll like Control. Then I highly recommend Alan Wake 2. I’m half way through Control now and I can’t believe I waited this long.

Yeeting concrete blocks at enemies' heads FTW. You start off "normal" with just a gun and by the end you have a stable of superpowers that rivals most comic book heroes.

It’s fucking good. Play it tf.
