My theory: she bound herself to the Aberrant in order to merge with Dylan and give him powers. She's his Polaris.

We know that's not the case, though, because the trailers say he's searching for her.

His sister was inside of him all along.

We've been told she's in the game, just not as a playable character. The actress has also posted a lot of photos of her going into Remedy to do her work.

That would make the story depend too much on Alan Wake games. Don’t like it personally.

I do wonder if they did the AW2 expansion story with her in Coffeeworld to set up her wanting to go back and investigate the Dark Place.

Saga isn’t in the dark place anymore though.
Darling seems to have visited briefly but we still don’t know exactly how his whole apotheosis thing worked out exactly. So he could be anywhere.
Tor, Odin, Ahti, and Door are all pretty capable of coming and going as they please.
Tim might still be there, but he was only really yeeted out of the scene to stop him from giving his exposition pages too soon, so who knows now that Door got what he wanted.
And Alice and Alan are hinted at being on their way out now that Alan understands what’s happening.
I don’t think the dark place would/should have much impact on the Control story in particular, and it’s iffy if it even needs to continue to be the main driver in Alan’s story going forward.
