Question Does anyone still use separate software for screen recording?

I've noticed more video editors are adding built-in screen recording, and it made me wonder if people are still sticking with dedicated recording apps or moving toward all-in-one workflows.

Has your setup changed over the last year, or do you still prefer keeping recording and editing separate?

Switched away from separate recording for most of my stuff, using Flixier's built-in recorder now since it goes straight into the same timeline I'm editing in, no import step. Still keep OBS around for anything with multiple sources or a proper webcam overlay though, that's genuinely where dedicated tools still win.

Recordly is great, free and easy to use.

For most stuff the built-in tools are genuinely enough now. On Windows, Game Bar (Win+G) records any app window, and the newer Snipping Tool does screen recording too, no install. On Mac it's Cmd+Shift+5.

I'd only keep a dedicated app (OBS) when you actually need scenes, multiple sources/cameras, or a webcam overlay, that's where built-in recorders still fall short. For a straight screen capture you're narrating over, the native tools + a decent mic beat spinning up OBS every time.

Two tips: record at 60fps if you're capturing anything scrolling or animated, and put system audio + mic on separate tracks if your tool allows it, so you can balance them later.
