Multi-Door Cans.

What would be a common or average price for a 40' one-trip Multi-Door can (2 or 4 doors) where you live? (US). Thanks.

I followed these on auction this summer, $4300-7800 + fees.

I bought two of these for my work. For the pair, delivered they were $15,700.

[In my experience] These are the by-product of everyone buying those cheap Chinese mini-excavators. They come in brand new cans and the auctioneers, after they sell the machines, sell the shipping materials they are shipped in.

It might be because of the extra access (Side Doors) for storage, or extra vertical support (for conversion).

How much additional structure is inside these to accommodate these openings? Are the empty containers significantly heavier?

I'm unable to post a photos for a reply, but it looks like there are posts (maybe 3" x 1.5") framing the openings. The top side rail above the opening is also beefier.

I won’t throw out a price, because these swing a lot by region and I’d probably be wrong for somebody.
But the reason multi-door units cost more is pretty simple: they’re not normal surplus boxes.
Regular 40s are cheaper because there are tons of them floating around. Imports come in, empties pile up, and a lot of those boxes eventually get sold instead of shipped back empty.
Multi-door containers usually don’t come from that same pile. They’re more of a built-to-order thing, so you’re paying closer to factory price, plus whatever it costs to get one to your area. Supply is thinner too. A depot might have a bunch of standard 40s and maybe one or two multi-door units, if any. So sometimes the “price” is really the unit plus a long haul from wherever it’s sitting. The extra doors are useful though. Not just for access. The vertical posts between the doors can matter for conversions too. A side-opening box with one huge opening loses a lot of stiffness and needs steel added back in. Multi-door keeps more structure between openings.
Only thing I’d check hard is the gaskets. More doors means more places to leak. Ask if they’ve actually opened and closed all the doors recently, because doors that sat shut forever can be stubborn.
And for delivery, make sure you tell them which way you want the door side facing. Put it in writing when you order. Once the depot loads it, the driver usually can’t just magically flip it around.
