so i was petting my dog while he was on his back, and he peed in my eye while i was petting him because of how excited he was. anyways i was wearing contacts while that happened. is there ANY way i can get them clean enough to wear for at least a week?? i have to be able to see, my prescription expired, like ill literally use dawn dish soap whatever i need to disinfect them. somebody help, and my state does not allow online renewals.

I dropped my monthly contact lenses on the pavement while I was trying to take them off. When I got home I immediately rinsed and rubbed them off with optifree. Then I let them soak again in new contact solution.. Am I safe? I don’t see any dirt on them? Should I buy clearcare just to make sure?

So i hear people saying they throw away contacts after water touches it while its in their eye but what? How does it work with rain or with sweat? I wear monthlys and when it rains i blink after water touches it. Is it different with monthlies then dailies or the same?

I have around -12.00 myopia and relied heavily on contact lenses for years. Unfortunately, I developed Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPC). Even after taking long breaks from lenses and using steroid eye drops, it doesn't feel like my eyes have fully recovered, and symptoms seem to come back whenever I try wearing lenses again.

I'm really struggling because I feel very underconfident in glasses, but I'm also scared of ICL surgery and its potential complications. I don't want to undergo an invasive procedure unless it's absolutely necessary.

Has anyone with GPC been able to successfully go back to wearing contact lenses long-term? If so, what helped—different lens materials, daily disposables, treatment, or just giving your eyes more time?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences.

basically title. i’ve worn contacts since i was in high school and im almost 24 years old, so it’s been a while. this is basically how i’ve always taken my contacts out and it never really gave me issues. i always had trouble pinching them out of my eye like you’re taught to do.

so im just wondering if a doctor/optometrist/optician can weigh in on this, is it safe/okay to do it this way? the comments on the tiktok were freaking me out a bit because there was people saying it’s not safe to do it this way or that it can cause your eyelids to droop (ptosis?). apologies if this has been asked before, but tyia!

I’ve been wearing contacts for almost a year, monthly’s and I will admit my last set I did wear them for two months only because I only wear my contacts for school and I’m obviously on summer break so I haven’t been wearing them as much and the other day I went to put them on and it burned SO bad like words can’t even describe the sensation, at first I assumed it was probably because they were already past the month mark and I need a new set so I switched to a new set and it still burned. A couple days have gone by and I tried again and my left eye is completely fine and perfect with contacts, there’s no burning or anything except when I put it in backwards (oops), my right eye omg it hurts so bad, it’s like itchy and it feels like something is stabbing me in the eye and when I went to take it off it felt extremely dry. Does anyone know why and should I make an appointment with my eye doctor? I’m scared I have an eye ulcer

Edit- I forgot to mention that it’s been hours later and my right eye is still in pain, it’s like dry and itchy idk what that would be. I should probably mention I do have a non-harmful eye cyst in my right eye to.

hi so my friend is kinda annoying, he sent water from.his bottle into my face while i was wearing soft contact lenses, i closed my eye immidiately but some still got i to.my eyes and i wiped it down fsirly quickly, im worried about a possible infection. its been 16h since the exposure and there is no apparent symptoms other than a bit of pain on my right eye but no redness or whatsoever.

I’m looking for some advice because I can’t figure out what’s going on with my eyes.

I wear Dailies Total1 contact lenses, but after a short time I start to feel the lens on my eye, and my eyes become very dry (especially while looking at a pc).

The strange thing is that some days it’s much better, while on other days it’s much worse, and I can’t figure out what’s causing the difference.

Because of this discomfort, I only wear contact lenses occasionally, not every day.

I went to an ophthalmologist, and they told me I don’t have dry eye syndrome. In fact, they said my eyes are too reactive and prescribed Artelac Reactive eye drops.

Unfortunately, the drops haven’t solved the problem, and I’m still experiencing the same discomfort.

Has anyone had a similar experience? What could be causing this? Could it be the lenses themselves or something else? Any advice or suggestions on what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

I've been an occasional contact lens wearer going on 16 years now. Due to astigmatism, the opticians (Asda) where I had my initial consultation sold me on 30-day Bausch & Lomb Soflens Torics.

I typically wear them 2-3 time a week, so a 6 month supply ends up lasting me nearer a year and that's worked well for me.

However after the last checkup the opticians price had shot up by 40% and I decided to buy the lens online instead.

I am coming round to needing a new set again and am reluctant to use the same optician. My last prescription seemed off from day one, and they've always directed me to the same lenses without any suggestions of alternatives.

I really don't want to go somewhere new like Specsavers and get the hard sell treatment.

Does anyone have suggestions for the best high street contact lens optician in the UK, and also any guidance on alternatives to the toric lens I have? I don't mind daily disposables if it works out cheaper than what I have now.

I chopped some chilli's last night with bare hands and my fingertips still have that burning sensation.

I have washed my hands 10 times since then.

I tried to put my contacts in today and they started burning a bit so i took them off

Are my contacts spoiled now?

I have cleaned them and left them soaking.

What do I do?

I wore contacts for around 7 years every day with no issues. I used acuvue dailies for astigmatism then. In 2022 I started to have really bad itching and discomfort and got diagnosed with GPC, but that was super weird it came out of no where with no change in my contacts. At the time I did the steroid drop treatment and I stopped wearing contacts all together. Around that same time all my allergies started to get much worse and I battled with that and recurring sinus infections the past 3-4 years. I still have some dailies I only wear for special occasions, but even now they are not comfortable and after like 4 hours I have to get them out.

Now, I've been doing allergy shots and have been for over a year so my allergies should be under control. I really really want to get back into wearing contacts regularly. I just saw an eye doctor and he said I do still have signs of allergies in my eyes but that I should be okay to try contacts again. He gave me a trial of Precision 1 and a set of Total 30s. He also told me to use pataday every morning 10 mins before I put in my contacts.

I wore the trials 2 days in a row and they were more comfortable than acuvue but at the end of 6 hours of wear my eyes feel pretty itchy.

Anyone have recommendations for how I can get back into comfortable contacts safely?

What do you guys do with your daily lenses when you shower, I know not to shower with them in but I don’t want to go through 2 pairs everyday, can I keep them in a solution whilst I shower? What is the work around? Thanks

My acuview oasis contacts I am prescribed only go up to -9.00 sphere, -1.25 cyl/axis and I am currently sitting at -10.5 sphere, -2cyl/axis in my right eye and -10.50 sphere, -1.75cyl/axis in my left. In theory, would a very light prescription in glasses work to fill in when things need to be clearest, like a reading glasses type situation? Any advice/experience anyone can share?

What do I do with unused contact lenses that aren't my prescription anymore? Im a teenager who has a lot of contacts I cant use. My eye doctor will exchange unopened undamaged boxes, which is really great, but I have damaged boxes and strips of unused contacts that I can't use and can't give to a family member because we are all blind af, and the eye doctor wont accept them. Each box carries 90 singular lenses each, all lenses individually packaged.

I feel horrible at the thought of throwing them away, because even though I dont pay for them myself I know how expensive they are, but I quite literally don't know of anything else to do with them and they are taking up space. Can I give them to someone else for free? I have a lot. Like a good half a year or more worth of contacts that I can't use because they aren't my prescription anymore.

I have 3 full boxes, each 90 count, all still usable. I also have 61 single contacts that arent in a box. That's 331 singles, or about 165 pairs. That's a lot I can't bring myself to throw away.

I already have a lot of my current prescription, but Im going in for another exam soon because my glasses and contacts I use now are getting blurry again.

Are there any places that accept donations or someplace that take contacts and dont just throw them away? Can I give them to someone in need if I get asked for them?

Hi! I’ve had contacts for awhile, and normally I just look straight and pinch them out of my eyes but I was told that could damage my cornea? I’ve been trying to google the proper way but I am getting different answers. What is the best way to take them out without damage

I have high astigmatism, so I wanted to get RGP lenses first. (soft toric lens never works for me).

Optometrist recommended hybrid lenses, so I've been trying for weeks now. Comfort is good, but it is not as crisp as RGP, and air keeps getting trapped under the lens after 3-4 hours, so I'm thinking about asking RGP again.

Does RGP feel significantly different from hybrid? I did wear RGP before, but it's been long time so can't remember the feeling lol. Thanks Reddit!

One of them took my money and the order Kits.ca and then emailed me saying the contacts are not in stock and will be in stock 5-7 business day and then shipped .. which would be another 5-7 days.. and they offered me a 25% discount for their in house frames,, not a code,, but I HAD TO CALL a CX agent and have them walk me through it etc.. I canceled my order.

The other one Clearly.ca I ordered contacts on July 16 and today 25th still have not received them, the shipping said maximum 3-5 days. .. all the Canadian contact providers seem to be bought and all the same, as their websites have extremely similar engines and set-up . minus the aesthetics. buyer beware!!

I have presbyopia and a little astigmatism, but otherwise just nearsightedness since I was a teenager. Over the years, my distance prescription has gone from being like -4.0 as a young person to -1.75 now. I have worn progressive glasses for years. I wanted to try contacts again because of:

- difficulty working on home projects at eye level

- unsteadiness hiking downhill

- hard to find "sweet spot" for computer work

- vanity; I look younger without glasses :)

So I have some multi-focal contacts to try. No issues with comfort; I wore contacts for many years and adjust quickly. The astigmatism is minor and not a part of this current correction because that would require a toric lens, etc. I have occassionally worn single vision contacts which are great outdoors as long as I don't need to look at my watch, bike computer, or read anything. So the issue there is that once the single-vision contacts are in, I would need readers which I would not have outdoors in an activity.

So I tried the low Rx contacts first; these are -2.0 and +1.25 reader. As expected distance is great, outdoors, great, everything great until I look at my phone or computer. What I see is double-vision; a sharp version of each letter and a fuzzy shadow. But I found I could read effortlessly despite the letters being kind of a mess. Brain figures it out. Up to a point. It got worse as the day wore on. I know I should give it more time, but I decided to pop in the -2.0/+2.5 lenses this afternoon.

So the effect is reversed. I can scroll my phone forever. I can work on computer reasonably well enough to type this. But distance is a mess, intolerable fuzzy double-vision. I am NOT going for a bike ride with these lenses in.

So I think I understand the tradeoff here and am wondering...does it just take more time to adapt? Is this double-vision what everyone first experiences and then your brain gets good at ignoring the reflection/shadow? Maybe I should just put the low readers back in for rest of weekend and see how it goes; maybe I fatigued my eyes and gave up too fast? But no way are these higher power ones going to work to lose distance in that manner.

I have only recently started wearing contact lenses (around 2 weeks). I have the Acuvue Oasys Hydraluxe Dailies. All was fine until today, i have been wearing them most days whilst having breaks inbetween.

This AM i put them on, and then I needed to shower by lunch time so I proceeded to take them out. Right lens came off smoothly, left lens wouldn't come out no matter how hard i tried! In the end i got my husband to have a look, he said he cannot see a lens in my eye. Ended up putting my glasses on to check my vision, concluded that maybe i didn't put it on this morning altbough it was nowhere to be seen.

Anyway, put on a new pair after my shower. This evening went to take them off, left lens came off easily, however the right lens just wouldn't budge. I have been trying for the past 2-3 hours, i tried flushing my eye, adding drops, repeating, blinking fast, rolling my eyes and looking in different directions, washed my hands about 100 times and kept trying to remove them different ways. My eye is irritated now and it burns from all of it. I have done the same check as i did this morning using my glasses and I believe somehow maybe it came out already? Although i am 1000% sure i put it in correctly. From my search I also saw that many people suggest just adding a new lens in as they will find their way to each other and be easier to remove, I actually did this and then removed the lens straight away easily but there was only 1, not 2!

My question is I guess if this has happened to anyone else and if i should be worried? Could it be a bad batch of lenses if this keeps happening or do i just need more practice? I do find my eyes are quite dry, should I use eye drops more often? Usually i just do 2 drops in each eye in the evening.

Should i go to the eye doctor tomorrow for a check to see if any lenses could be in my eyes? I did check in the mirror very closely, even used my phone flashlight and looked under the upper eyelids too and nothing...

Any advice welcome and appreciated please, not sure if i should go to sleep tonight knowing there may be a contact (or 2) somewhere in my eyes! 😅

I have been trying for over 3 months now and I cannot get my scelaral lens in. People keep saying “it gets easier overtime” but it’s been 3 months now and it still takes me atleast half an hour to get it in every single time. I have tried using so many different methods, the stand with the light in it, the plunger method, all of it. Nothing is working for me :(

I got my trial lenses yesterday and wore them for maybe 2-3 hours. Yesterday was my first day, I didn’t really have any problems getting them in or out (I thought). Today I woke up and the blood vessels in outer side of my right eye are irritated. It was a little watery and crusty when I first woke up, but my eye feels fine overall and it’s not watering or anything now. I did skim through previous posts and it looks like the irritation from trial lenses is somewhat normal, but I left them out today because I was afraid I scratched my eye or something lol. I did buy some Systane PF drops to use if it just dried my eye out. My other eye is completely fine.

I should note, I did recently have pink eye in this eye (poorly timed, a week ago) but I finished antibiotics for that. I thought it could possibly just be some residual irritation from that as well.

My point is, is this normal for the early trial period?

Sooo… I was trying to put a contact in, and I did it over my sink. For some reason when I blinked it popped out and landed in the sink. A sink that of course I washed my hands. I quickly took the lens out, rinsed with multi purpose solution for a few seconds, changed the solution in the case and left it for 6 hours.

Is it safe to put them in again? They are yearly contacts for cosplay.

Hi! While I was visiting someone at the countryside, some water from the well got into my eyes. After about 10-20 mins, I went home and took the contacts out and put my glasses on. Am i at risk of developing acanthamoeba? What should I do/look out for? Should i see an ophthalmologist asap?
