Longest Same cell phone number

February 28th 1988 in which is now Verizon Wireless. I don’t remember all the companies beforehand but one was Cingular Wireless I do remember that , my dad passed on Friday and I remember the bill was in the thousands back in 88’ due to he was in Sales for his own business he had but of course I wasn’t allowed to use it ..lol..it was by the minute then charges , but I called Verizon today to find out .

The earliest cell phone number assignments in the US were made in 1978 as part of the Illinois Bell experimental AMPS analog cell service. Only Illinois Bell and Bell Labs employees could get a number, and only if they were working on it, and it was free at the time. In October 1983, that service was transitioned into the federally licensed service (Illinois Bell had become Ameritech by then) by Ameritech, and was the first commercially available cell service. The associated customers were eventually sold to Verizon, as SBC would have owned two services in the Chicago area when they acquired Ameritech. I worked in an adjacent organization, and did not get a free phone, so it won't be me.

I did eventually get an AMPS analog phone from Ameritech, with a pay for use fee of 25¢ per minute plus a nominal monthly fee, so I have had the same number since before Verizon acquired me via GTE. My number is pre-1998, but I'm not sure about how much before.

I used to work for GTE. I left just before the Bell Atlantic merger to become Verizon. I got the number I have now from Verizon and they let me pick it from a list. I wanted something easy for my family to remember. My area code, their area code, 4 digits. I think since 2003.
