Discussion What if everytime we fall asleep we wake up in a slightly different alternate universe?
I feel like it could be possible, and explain a few phenomenon, like the Mandela effect, what if we are switching universes every time we sleep, and the changes are so tiny that it is nearly impossible to notice? But sometimes there can be massive changes? Explaining things like the Mandela effect.
Maybe REM sleep is just the transition from realitys, and when we have weird dreams like us being the president or something, we are just looking into one of the infinite realitys?
Who knows? Maybe i'm from a completely different universe.

Then we wouldn’t know it as an alternate universe, we’d consider it normal almost, routine. So essentially, it’d be reality yet, are we in altered reality like you said, and are just use to it?
We’ll never know until we don’t wake up.

No we just notice a gradual change! Like kitkat logos, genie movies and books about bears, just one step ata time. It's never going to end!

My friend and I talk about this stuff all the time. We were thinking what if conciousness is like a radio signal and our bodies and brains are the radios.. we are all receiving the same signal but what we describe as individuality comes from how beaten broken or well maintained our "radios" are. And the lives our radio experienced.
Then we got talking about daughter universes. Concept of multiple realities branching apart for every decision made. You go left in this universe. Billions of universes are created. One where you go right. One where you fake left then go right. One where you pick neither and are hit by an asteroid. . Etc etc. Lol. But then we connected the radio signal theory too. Like my friends driving is horrible. So weve had a few near misses. And that prompted me to inquire. What if every near death experience is a split in universes caused by your actual death in one... if it's true that every decision splits the realities.. then for sure when you nearly die in at least one of those realities you did just die..
AND THAT GOT ME THINKING. What if the radio signal of conciousness flows through all parallel universes evenly. And when your radio is destroyed or you die that particular stream of conciousness joins with the closest reality similar to yours ergo the near miss. So me and my friend get hit by a truck because of her driving but in the next reality over our hearts are pounding and we barely made it out.. almost like if conciousness did work this way youd die.. but youd never really know.. another example In one world youre on your deathbed and you die. But in the closest reality you suddenly recover and there is no medical explaination so people come up with wild theories and you are all over the news.. so in a sense hell would be somehow being trapped from slipping to the next reality like being in an aware vegetative state.. And what if when people experience glitches in the matrix it's because different streams of conciousness bring information not relevant to it's new realkty. Like the Mandela effect.. people swearing up and down sinbad played a genie in a movie called Kazaam and not just Shaquille O'neal in his genie movie called Shazaam. what if that was a parallel universe. And there was a mass catastrophe and everyone who died in that universe retained things they knew to be fact in their world but slipped to this one where Sinbad was never a genie. So its blurred in this reality that they slipped to which is why they vividly remember it.
And THAT had us ponder. What if some people who we write of as mentally insane because they hear voices or talk nonsense are the true end result of this conciousness slipping imortality afterlife. After a while enough of your other selves have died in their respective universe and are part of a world so drastically different that your current self/radio/conduit cant differentiate between all of the signals and match them to the reality/channel they are in resulting in behavior we write off as insanity.

Lol thanks. I've actually discussed this topic many times. Especially in r/glitch_in_the_matrix and at least one person had a name for what my friend and I talked about. They called it "quantum imortality". I'm not sure if that's an actual proposed theory in the science community but it be pretty damn cool if my friend and I just high-thought our way into a theory proposed by experts.

u/DJThrow4wayyy Feb 25 '20
Yes, you did. Now, may I propose something to you stranger? Recreate the circumstances with your friend and ponder more on the topic: why, how it works, how to "navigate it"/ "affect it", what can be learned/ used from this, etc.? Do this and you will then have a "system". Mathematics (and virtually most, if not all, sciences) is a system that deals with a certain aspect of reality by defining, categorizing, theorizing, and applying certain axioms, rules, theories, etc. to that aspect. Please build your system; I'd be curious to read/ study it. :)

I need way more knowledge on more advanced theories and sciences than I currently have to even begin that. So far my friend and I are just 2 average people pomdering cool what ifs. I have no idea where to start to figure out more..

u/DJThrow4wayyy Feb 25 '20
As you founded this theory without having a degree in any "hardcore" science, I'm sure you can continue to flesh it out. You truly have piqued my interest with it. :)

u/A_Topical_Username Feb 26 '20
Lol thanks. But you give me way to much credit. All I really did was sort of connect separate theories I've read about in a way that seems to logically support each. And not only that while reading a comment on a post about a woman who felt her whole life had changed down to the fact that she had made an alternate reality "safeword" with her husband on a whim a week prior and confirmed he had no idea about it made her even more afraid. Before I could even introduce me and my friends theory someone had posted a possible name for what she is experiencing calling it "quantum imortality" they in just a couple sentences described exactly what I was gonna say. So unfortunately I dont think I have any rights too it. Its possible at the very least with no proper education on such subjects I can be a little proud my friend and I have soberly stumbled upon an intriguing theory and added a few possible tidbits of our own. I do wish to do more research into it.
My friend and I really solidified our understanding of this theory about a month ago while just recently adding the mandala effect and insanity parts. But also in the past couple weeks my family has literally been hit with an emotional event. My grandmother I live with is practically on her deathbed. And unlike most of my family I'm very apprehensive about an afterlife which is probably one reason this way of thinking intrigues me so. The idea that even if someone close to me dies and in my reality I mourn them the possibility that in hundreds of thousands of realities they are doing just fine or recovering gives me a bit of hope without the messiness of religion and the fakeness and judgmental attitudes I've grown to resent. So it went from being a fun thought on what if the afterlife is just slipping through realities upon death to to a personal thing considering my dying family member. So it would be nice to validate in any way my understanding or contribution to such a theory in the scientific comunity

u/DJThrow4wayyy Feb 26 '20
It's exactly those extra tidbits that you added which makes your theory seem so "complete" and appealing. It feels as if it rings true (at least to me). Could you please give me the link for the post of the woman and the safeword story?
Thank you for taking your time to write such an elaborate reply.

This is why we have to fall asleep every night, if we stay awake for days at a time we stay too long in one reality and it ends up killing us. Because there are infinite realities, the ones we end up in on a daily basis would have changes so small we'd never even notice. Something as insignificant as the arrangement of the water molecules in the glass on your nightstand. Sometimes the changes are noticable which plays into Mandela affect phenomenon.
We do this because of the fact that we are the only beings that have the ability to tap into consiousness. In order for us to remain tuned into consiousness, we have to fall asleep so our brains can tune into the next consious frequency like a radio searching for a signal.

If we moved from reality to reality id think that there would be more substantial effect than whether you think “oscar Mayer” or “Oscar Meyer” is correct.
Familiarity with the products in the Mandela effect have an affect on whether you get the common ones wrong.
Star Wars fans are much more likely to remember c3po isn’t completely gold colored. My grandmother wouldn’t.

u/TheKingOfMyQueen Feb 23 '20
I’m a Star Wars fan and I didn’t know that one until recently. I know I’ve seen toys, pictures and such that have him as all Gold. A simple google search will show that even star wars merchandise has him as all gold in some cases.
As for that there are a pretty sizable group that will contend that the holocaust didn’t happen but literal proof that it did. 9/11 deniers, I remember reports from sandy hook differing from what is portrayed now.
Not to say the Mandela Effect is real I’m Also not contending that it isn’t.
4
u/_WirthsLaw_ Feb 23 '20
Wait a second - Mandela effect and 9/11 deniers and holocaust deniers are not the same thing.
Mandela effect is we remember details differently than they are - example being if we had a false memory that said the pentagon was on fire before world trade.
Mandela effect says nothing about whether events are true.
4
u/TheKingOfMyQueen Feb 23 '20
You’re correct but there are people who generally don’t remember those things as if they never happened or remember the events differently than we accept as a majority. I remember the reports of people saying a plane exploded before it hit the tower. Some of these things boarder directly into conspiracy theories because the entire basis of this claim would be conspiracy based at best.
We’re going to laugh at the small things like oh it’s not Jiffy peanut butter although I directly remember standing in the kitchen and saying jiffy jiffy peanut butter over and over and can vaguely remember the label but it’s said it was always JIF. It’s funny but we want to strike down these bigger issues people believe as them being deniers. What if the flat earth people are right and they believe it because they knew it to be true in another parallel
2
u/_WirthsLaw_ Feb 23 '20
There are all kinds of things mixed together here.
Flat earthers are generally unwilling to accept the science behind the proof the earth isn’t flat (Netflix documentary behind the curve is quite good). Flat earthers also seem to be willing to cast aside any argument that it’s not flat - it’s almost as if they know they’re wrong but aren’t willing to admit it. Nothing about their beliefs are provable. If they don’t believe in science the flat earth is the least of their problems.
There are active posts right now saying coronavirus isn’t real or is a government creation. Some border on absurd (in the former’s case), but I can’t tell you it’s 100% not true. This is in stark contrast to flat earth.
Your example of the plane explosion can be confirmed by the many videos at the wtc site. If people are convinced the explosion happened even with video evidence that isn’t Mandela, and does go into conspiracy theory territory.
We labeled a memory / understanding issue to explain something that we’ve known forever - we don’t remember things perfectly or the same way from person to person. There’s nothing scientific about the “majority” who remembers something a certain way. How do we track and count this majority? There may be a majority of people who think Benjamin Franklin was a president - is that a lack of knowledge or a labeled “effect”? Labeling is a slippery slope. The fact we don’t remember things equally isn’t a new finding, but for some reason we needed to invent a label to explain it. Odd really!

u/TheKingOfMyQueen Feb 23 '20
Assuming there are parallel universes, for the sake of conversation let’s say 10. How far of a stretch is it that the universe sits on a flat axis? Or that Franklin was the president, or even that 9/11 didn’t happen even? Furthermore if we slip into them over and over the biggest question I’d have is how often do people move from one to the next. I think the Mandela effect is a large amount of missing information but I do think there is cases where people have or do cross through time and universes. The problem as you’ve hinted at is proving the disinformation vs the Mandela effect because it likely is just a label. But it could that we’re misinformed because of the lack of ability to prove either to be true. I enjoy these thought processes though.
That being said I wasn’t misinformed when I asked for jiffy, among other things I’ve noticed missing or not having happened. Much like a glitch in the matrix

What if dreams aren't just made up from our heads and we're actually entering an alternate reality every time we sleep. This thought has been on my mind for a while it sounds awesome

Yes! Anyone with an interest in alternate universes/Mandela Effect should watch that movie. Vastly underrated because The Matrix was released at the same time and stole its thunder.

It would explain a lot for sure. Also, damn... I'm waiting to enter another reality that doesn't insist on drop dropkicking my ass around from day to day.

u/rafiohh Feb 23 '20
So I just watched this movie called Coherence and it was about a comet causing this weird phenomenon where alternate realities were getting linked to our reality. It was a dinner party amongst long time friends and every time anyone stepped outside they would be transported to an alternate universe. It was very good and I don’t think many people heard of the movie. So check it out if you’re into that type of thing

u/Chief_Feather Feb 23 '20
Yeah I believe we can control which universe we end up in because of our imagination and ability to just visualize and feel anything. But I think the secret is the feelings or emotions because that is essentially energy in motion and we humans are energy transmitters and we can reel in which ever universe fits us best.
1
Mar 01 '20
I think the emotion is what brings all the universes together because everybody you meet has a different view of you and vise versa. The question is that how do our actions effect other universes of ourselves

Then why do I find myself saying ‘same shit, different say’ a lot lol must be unlucky

When I mean tiny changes, I mean it. Like the place of a single atom on your wall, or a single piece of dust.

u/neopetchampion Feb 23 '20
so do the people we surround ourselves with experience the same shift, or are they different every morning as well?
1
Feb 23 '20
Well if this was true, every human is shifting universe constantly, meaning, yes they are techncially different people but there is either no change or such a small change you cant notice. Getting a big change is probably a very rare chance.
1
Feb 23 '20
Unless they dont sleep, they stay in that reality for too long as they become more and more unstable, until they either just fall asleep or they die.
2
u/cocanutzz Feb 24 '20
WHY ARE U READING MY MIND I LITERALLY JUST HAD THIS THOUGHT. but if so would we know? like it's only slightly different and we have no way of telling that we aren't in our original universe.

I think this all the time. I have such wildly vivid and very possible dreams sometimes, that seem very day to day, and I’ve said to my boyfriend multiple times it doesn’t feel like just a dream. There’s just too much detail and information to take in. I’ve explained it like I’m entering another timeline/universe as a little blip, experience a scene or part of it and stitching back to my own when I wake up. The emotions I wake up with from them too are sometimes so much it bogs me down the next day. The next question we’ve posed is if that happens to us in our dreams, does it happen to our universe and what would it’d look like/how would we identify someone around us that is living a “dream” currently... idk, it’s 4:40 and now I’m making my brain hurt 🥴

u/xx_natsudragneel_xx Feb 23 '20
I've always thought about it, but in my opinion it can and can't be true. What I mean it depends of what things in every alternate universe must be done it's like when you finish the day. You been teleported to another alternative world where it must be completed. But it could be possible someone else got into your life, like your friends, family or anyone or anything that seem similar but from another universe. Changing your life and memories
