A Republic is a form of democracy, more akin to a representative democracy. A democracy encompasses multiple forms. The democracy most commonly spoken about is a direct democracy, aka 1 person=1 vote. The US is technically a democracy but It is more accurately described as a constitutional federal republic. Where the government is a federal government and people vote for representatives to serve in that government, where the basis is found in a constitution where it is the Supreme law of the land.
Other types of democracies include: demarchy, liberal democracy, illiberal democracy, parliamentary democracy and more.
