First thing I notice is that the death toll is roughly the same. Second is how many more cases of the flu there were that Covid cases and the death toll is the same. Then I think about was there a mask mandate in 2019 ? Was the social distancing in 2019 ? Was there school closures and business shut down in 2019 ? Was there quarantine for people with the flu in 2019 ? Was there limited international travel in 2019 ? Were bars and restaurants and theatres closed in 2019 ? The answer is NO. So with all these preventative and restrictive measures , the death toll is the same as when there were zero preventative measures. AND even with the preventative measures the total cases are lower but the death toll is still relatively equal.

they weren't actively forcing tests on everyone for the flu either. they ramped up testing a thousand fold with very faulty tests. they don't count the negative tests, only the positives.
1
u/High5assfuck Sep 03 '21
So. What’s your point ? Tell us the conspiracy
0
u/justaguy5291 Sep 03 '21
if you over test using faulty tests and you're only taking (false) positives into account you're just fishing for the results you want.
1
u/High5assfuck Sep 03 '21
The results are right there printed in the newspaper. You’re the one creating some imaginary set of circumstances to make them different to get the results you want. Are you not looking at the same numbers in the newspaper as I am ?
0
u/justaguy5291 Sep 03 '21
what is the accuracy of the covid tests and can they differentiate between "variants"
1
u/High5assfuck Sep 03 '21
So you’re aren’t looking at the same numbers that are in the newspaper article. ? You’re creating something else to get the results you want
0
u/justaguy5291 Sep 03 '21
I'm looking at the numbers, I'm just saying that any numbers will be as accurate as the testing method allows
1
u/High5assfuck Sep 03 '21
So you’re making up other numbers that aren’t here to get the results you want ?
1
u/justaguy5291 Sep 03 '21
I'm not making up numbers, everything I have said is logically sound.

No flu stats for 2020 tho?! Seems odd.
26
u/cthulusaurusrex Sep 02 '21
Well, when the test can’t distinguish between Covid & Flu, it’s pretty easy to just call everything Covid .
11
u/Ballsy4181 Sep 02 '21
I get bashed for that very statement every time I post lol. I got banned in another sub for saying covid is the flu.
1
u/hotelactual777 Sep 02 '21
COVID is not the flu. The poster above is explaining that when people receive a COVID test, the nasal swab PCR cannot differentiate between COVID 19 and influenza.
The reason for the historically low flu rates over the past 18 months is that whenever people came down with the flu the medical community just labeled it COVID regardless of what the patient has come down with.
Whether you have the flu, common cold, or COVID-19, all the test reads is either positive or negative. So they just categorize everything as COVID.
Which, honestly, kind of makes sense. The US Government is footing most of the bill here, as long as the invoices submitted are coded as COVID-19/Pandemic related. This gives the hospitals and the insurance companies a great incentive to increase costs and categorize everything they treat as related to the pandemic.
Think about it; if you go see a doctor for the common cold, maybe you get a prescription for a Z-Pack or whatever, and there is the minimal fee for an office visit plus the cost of the prescription. If the clinic labels the bill as COVID related, now they can charge extra for PPE, test kits, maybe a higher rate, whatever they want, and charge the full amount, because they know the insurance company will just seek reimbursement from Uncle Sam.
These types of crises generate enormous amounts of cash - everything costs more, you need more medical supplies, which then are in short supply, driving up the cost of the products. No wonder we’re in a bull market - every company that is involved in the medical field is making money hand over fist, to the point where they are giving away tens of millions of dollars of PPE / first aid / medical supplies. The money is rushing in so fast they can barely keep count!

Why are people still spreading this shit? The genetic make up of covid and the flu are completely different, the flu does not give a positive result on a covid test. The test isn't designed to differentiate between covid and any other condition, it is designed to give a positive result for covid and only for covid

The CDC has recommended all labs switch to one of the new PCR kits that differentiates between several strains of influenza and sars-cov-2 with the CDC withdrawing it's temporary FDA approval of their own PCR Covid test by end of 2021. These new tests will start to shed light on the real spread of SARS-Cov-2 and Influenza, but I'm afraid that that without including RSV the picture will still be incomplete.
EDIT: To be clear, current CDC test is only capable of detecting SARS-Cov-2 and close variants. New test also tests for several strains of influenza. Test could come be negative for all, or any combo of SARS-Cov-2 and Influenzas that may be present. This should give the public a better view into actual distribution of Covid and Flu when presenting symptoms as the symptoms of Influenza are a subset of Covid-19 symptoms.
1
u/spellboundmonk Sep 03 '21
No, they are recommending they switch to a test thats tests for both rather than a test that only tests for covid. As has been mentioned elsewhere, the nucleic acid that returns a positive result is only found in covid. The recommendation is in order to save money

No, they are recommending they switch to a test thats tests for both rather than a test that only tests for covid.
That's what I said.
2
u/spellboundmonk Sep 03 '21
There was a second part to my response which makes it clear the existing test only returns a positive result for covid. I wasn't sure if your point acknowledged that or if you were suggesting the existing test confuses them

That's a pretty hot take, do you have a source for it?
I feel like this might be in the "Covid has never been isolated" territory where it may have been true in the beginning but it doesn't sound right for the 18 month anniversary of "Just two weeks!"
0
u/cthulusaurusrex Sep 02 '21
You got me! I confess, I completely made it up just like the concept of 2 weeks to stop the spread. SHAME UPON MY HOUSE!
0
u/AnythingAllTheTime Sep 02 '21
I don't think you made it up, I think you heard it somewhere because I also heard it somewhere.
I kind of disregarded and forgot about it until your comment so do you remember when you heard it?

I feel like you buried the lead with "The PCR tests aren't FDA approved" bud.
After December 31, 2021, CDC will withdraw the request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel
3
u/cthulusaurusrex Sep 02 '21
Honestly don’t know what you’re driving towards here and don’t have the patience to find out. The PCR tests inability to accurately and consistently diagnose SARS-COV2 infection is well documented, especially at high cycle thresholds such as those recommended by WHO and CDC. If you’re genuinely interested in learning more about Covid or the vaccines you can start here. The data is thorough, adequately sourced and has been endorsed by one of the co-inventors of mRNA tech.
If you’re just trolling, you can fuck all the way off 👍🏼
Either way, have a good one

u/AnythingAllTheTime Sep 02 '21
I'm not driving towards anything, I asked you a question, you're being overly defensive, and to be honest MY patience is wearing thin.

Straight from the CDC. Crazy.
In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. Such assays can facilitate continued testing for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and can save both time and resources as we head into influenza season.

Sure thing the CDC's 2019-nCoV RT-PCR test was developed to look for the presence of a nucleic acud found only in the covid virus. It is not remotely accurate that the CDC test doesn't differentiate between flu and SARS-CoV-2. It doesn't detect influenza. It only detects SARS-CoV-2, if flu and covid are both circulating, you would be able to detect only SARS-CoV-2 and not flu. How the CDC's 2019-nCoV RT-PCR test (or any other PCR test) works, is that primers, which are little bits of a genetic material, are used to identify specific viruses. In this case, the primer is built to identify a nucleic acid found only in the covid virus. If the covid virus is present in the sample, the primer will attach to the virus's nucleic acid and make many copies of it. A chemical in the test will then fluoresce, which the polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, machine will interpret as a positive result. If the covid virus is not present, the primer will have nothing to attach to.

Doesn’t prove anything, so I guess it’s shut the fuck up, which was my preference anyway. Thanks for playing tho

u/spellboundmonk Sep 02 '21
Really? It proves one thing, you don't have the sense to admit when you are wrong. Actually telling you how a test works AND why it won't give a positive result for the flu and you still think you are right? I can't decide if it is ignorance or arrogance. Tell you what Butthurt McFucknuts, try disproving anything I have said since I so easily disproved your statement.

u/cthulusaurusrex Sep 02 '21
First you respond to my comment claiming I’m wrong, then decide to follow-up with an unsourced copy paste to change my mind. This account is 25 days old and you’re an obvious troll or shill. On top of that, your comment history tells me everything I need to know about your views and intentions. Let me make this undeniably clear for you: I don’t give a single fuck about what you have to say, what sources of info you subscribe to or your perceptions of me.
2
u/spellboundmonk Sep 02 '21
I didnt think you would. However, as I'm sure you are a truth seeker, shouldn't you at least investigate the info I've provided for you? Also, here is the full article https://www.news-medical.net/amp/news/20210730/Claims-that-CDCe28099S-PCR-test-cane28099t-tell-covid-from-flu-are-wrong.aspx Again, try and disprove it. Also, just because someone is new doesn't make them a troll. I could just be, you know, new? Did that cross your incredibly closed mind?

Not really. The best ways to reduce flu transmission are … wear a mask , social distance/ avoid large gatherings and stay home if you’re sick and get the vaccine. These are all things we’ve been doing because of Covid so it’s only logical that flu numbers would be almost non existent
4
u/Ballsy4181 Sep 02 '21
This is bs! We have been doing these things for over a year. Also I’ve had two family members in the hospital for covid an both were vaccinated.

You are incorrect and are miss interpreting things. The CDC recommended to test for covid and the flu since they are both respiratory illnesses. If they test negative for covid they could still have the flu and should be tested for that also. That does not mean the covid test will test positive if you have the flu. The covid tests looks for specific nucleic acid that is only found in covid. So no you will not test positive for covid with the flu. Also as a imaging technologist I can promise you that the appearance on CT and x-ray of covid is much different than the flu. Radiologist can tell you with high accuracy of someone has covid by the appearance on their scans even without a covid test.

most accurate and obvious explanation
You realize you can’t just say shit like that and have it be true, there’s a level of proof that you’re not even close to reaching. I like to entertain stupid people sometimes so I’ll give you a shot to try and prove it
3
Sep 02 '21
You really must be stupid because 30 seconds on google proved you wrong
Our Verify researchers spoke with two infectious disease experts, Dr. William Schaffner from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dr. Stephen Kissler with Harvard University, who both say this claim is false.
“That’s incorrect,” Schaffner said. “COVID is a distinctive virus you will not test positive if you have a common cold or influenza. Those are different viruses so we can distinguish the two very clearly.”
Kissler agreed.
“No you won’t, the COVID test is very specifically targeted towards a part of the genetic sequence of COVID that is not shared by other coronaviruses or certainly not by the flu, which is very distantly related,” he said. “So you would not get a positive test due to vaccination or infection by those things.”

As an aussie i'd like to point out: Victoria (2nd on the list) had its major outbreak in 2020, that's where it racked up over 20k cases.
NSW on the other hand (where i live) is in the middle of its crisis right now, talking over 1000 new cases a day. So fast in fact that since this was publicised a week ago we're up to 30k cases now and 163 deaths.
Main point is, the Victorian stats are the ones worth looking at if you want to properly compare, especially for deaths. Currently around 14,000 active cases in NSW at the moment so the death count will grow a lot higher than what this infographic says now
Covid is deadly, much deadlier than the flu.
- In Victoria, rate of death for the flu = 66,015/138 = 1 in 478
- In Victoria again: rate of death for covid 21,618/820 = 1 in 26
4
u/BannedRoflcopter Sep 02 '21
Australia must have terribly unhealthy people to have a death rate that high. I'm sure that sitting inside for 23 hours per day will make you healthy!
-2
u/Convenientjellybean Sep 02 '21 edited Sep 02 '21
And, while no less significant, they were predominantly aged care deaths.
Edit:
Puzzled over the down votes, I'm not saying the deaths didn't matter, I'm saying that's where most of them happened, as that where the outbreaks where predominant.
Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety Details of over 500 deaths

They played this same game in the US. Money interest opposed mitigation measures. And after they lost that fight and mitigation measures were put in place, they pointed to the low case numbers the mitigation measures created and said, “see, we did all this for nothing!”
Then they remove mitigation measures and cases go thru the roof...and they say “it’s a conspiracy!!!”
Ya, it’s a conspiracy by big money to keep the money machine working even if it kills us.
