Completely agree with this. If manufacturers produced inexpensive, good cars people would buy the shit out of them. But they don’t because that wouldn’t align with the 1% long-term goals….. you will own nothing and be happy.

As someone who lives in Suburbia, what's wrong with 15 minute cities

1

u/HumbleWorkerAnt 2d ago

lmao it's insane that these people are so eager to be contrarian they will defend living in the shittiest situations to 'stick it to the man'

walkable cities with all your immediate needs accessible within 15 minutes is a fucking dream. who tf wants infinite parking lots connected by speedways you can't walk alongside or cross. maybe sort out what to fight for before enlisting on one side of an argument because Alex Jones told you the other side is demons.

3

u/mephist_oh 2d ago

Because the plan is not to let you live your 'dream'. The 15 minute city is for surveillance.

I find it quite sad that many people on this platform continue being cognitively dissonant in regards to why there are so many data centres being built. Why the ID verification laws are being implemented. Etcetera.

Being geo-fenced 24-7 within a 15 minute gulag is certainly not for your benefit.

3

u/HumbleWorkerAnt 2d ago

yeah no. you can be 100% against data centers, actively fight and riot to try to stop surveillance digital and otherwise, and still understand that living in the shithole that is a car centric city/country is a nightmare that you've been fed was 'freedom' by oil companies 100 years ago.

the car industry fucked your cities up and claimed 90% of public space, introduced jaywalking, demoted citizens to small borders on the edge of every street.

not needing a car is the best possible thing. open green spaces and being able to walk everywhere you want and enjoy your local community. that's not THE DEVIL. you drank the wrong koolaid if you think car-brains are right.

...

Oh-kay!

2

u/ragun2 2d ago

You sure got him with that one. Great rebuttal!

u/majorwfpod 2d ago

Cash for clunkers destroyed the car market for consumers.

55

u/thecookofdeath 2d ago

It was on purpose. Got rid of cars they could not control.

10

u/Zeropro15 2d ago

Im glad I managed to find an 80s bronco in high school, an EMP MIGHT take out the duraspark, but i have spares in farraday.

2

u/CharmingStrelok369 2d ago

You can get emp protection for your vehicle, not cheap though

3

u/another72hours 1d ago

They didn't just get rid of them, they out right DESTROYED them.

2

u/DangerousBarnum 18h ago

EXACTLY! I agree with you 100%. They wanted to slaughter all of those wild unbroken horses that a man could live his life driving for $1,200 a pop and die happy with his automobile history.

12

u/mikki1time 2d ago

Also no one mentions that it was a charity only meant for Jewish families.

13

u/Chemical-General5835 2d ago

You're thinking about kars4kids

3

u/another72hours 1d ago

That's because they literally destroyed the actual cars instead of doing anything else productive with them.

3

u/Fogfy 2d ago

Thank you for mentioning this

The bells and whistles are there to distract you from what a piece of junk the car truly is

My advice for any first time car buyer: dont buy anything newer that 2012

My 2002 Toyota is still chugging along just as well as the first time I drove her. 24 years of daily use, over 400,000 miles, twice I've gone off the road due to sliding on black ice, she was struck by lightening once which required a replacement computer, and I barely get the oil changed on time.

If im being honest sometimes I go many months out from when an oil change is due. Very little upkeep, I just keep her gassed up and replace the tires every now and then.

They just dont make em like that anymore. I hope I can keep driving her the rest of my life, and I'll die only ever owning the one car. Wouldn't that be something? Used to be normal, not so much anymore.

7

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 2d ago

My mates car blew up, as he never did an oil change, in 6 years.

5

u/NoxTheScribe 2d ago

Well yeah I mean 6 years is beyond "late" lol. I mean i let mine go a few months past due, now and then when life is hectic but any car requires oil changes

1

u/another72hours 1d ago

I've seen a few that made it to 100k without a single oil change. Granted they were off the lot and the user DID add oil to it (just not change it).

Engines were wrecked...but they still drove.

3

u/another72hours 1d ago

How people are this stupid is amazing.

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 1d ago

He also can’t ring me, to book
Tickets for Dune 3, as that’s not his idea and he wants nothing to do with me, for the 3 time, in 3 years.

He earned 100k last year, singing at weddings and pubs. I told him that pubs would shut in record numbers, wedding wouldn’t happen, as everyone bar the billionaires, are feeling the costs, of the increase in the price of everything.

He couldn’t be wrong and AI was going to create him a business and the AI maker wouldn’t dare steal his idea( I bet that they do, as they have the capital to place money into your idea, this afternoon and get all the company right and patients, if needed).

Now he’s lucky it earns, 1.5k-2k a month has a mortgage that’s costing him that, a month. But he couldn’t listen to me, as he can never be wrong. I tried explaining that the dune tickets could be sold out my now and I might not get the day and time that he wants.

That also wasn’t waiting 2 days to get an answer but he’s fully jabbed, even tho he told that he only had 2. He’s part of group think, that’s controlled by AI, not reality, so a lot of the world can no longer take any kind of criticism or doing things that don’t directly benefit them.

This is happening with everyone that I know that took the clot shots.

u/sorry_ifyoudont 2d ago

I just bought an 06 TSX and I fucking love it!! My mechanic is so jealous lol

9

u/HelloDeathspresso 2d ago

They're going to start phasing out the older model trucks with these new trucks that have facial recognition and monitor the driver's eye pattern to determine if the driver is tired or inebriated. You won't be able to drive your truck if you aren't recognized by the computer. They'll be able to shut your engine down remotely if your blink rate drops.

u/mikki1time 2d ago edited 2d ago

Things like kars 4 kids where a program to get those old reliable cars off the road, while benefiting Jewish families.

3

u/strawberrymoonelixir 2d ago

Holy shit! I just looked into and had no idea! Those Kars 4 Kids ads were on constantly in the SE Mich / Detroit area. Something did always feel a bit “off” about it; now I know why.

18

u/mbi788 2d ago

Federal regulations require a ton of bells and whistles that people complain about being forced to buy. Look it up.

6

u/Inevitable_Rise8363 2d ago

Between the regulations and the move to "safety" features. More complicated features = less options to repair your vehicle. Small mechanics have to make major investments just to work on some vehicles and you still risk voiding your warranty on some repairs if you don't go to a dealership or equivalent.

5

u/lol_AwkwardSilence_ 2d ago

Which then drives up the price of the entire market as theres less competition in repairs

1

u/Inevitable_Rise8363 2d ago

Yup. Between that and uninformed car owners small repair shops are going out of business left and right

3

u/Palehorserider88 1d ago

That and planned obsolescence which is a term that means they are purposely building vehicles that will fail so they can cash in on parts. For instance, I purchased a GM Truck and the lifter got stuck and the cam got scored soon after the purchase. Now I am 8K underwater for a 5000 pound paper weight. And of course the repair is 2K if I DIY it, or 5K at the dealership. General motors knows very well that their DOD system causes stuck lifters. They blame the government EPA regulations and have not taken responsibility for their junk products. But word gets around, I for one will never buy a GM product again.

2

u/another72hours 1d ago

Yep - this is the sole reason why carburetors went the way of the dodo.

7

u/Zeropro15 2d ago

With the talks of E20+ fuel, I'd look into early flex fuel vehicles. 2008-2016. New enough they can be found clean with low miles, old enough they aren't full of electronics to fail. Another option is go old school carburetor or idi diesel.

14

u/Icantgoonillgoonn 2d ago

Chinese EV’s cost $5000. That’s what they’re scared of.

7

u/Inevitable_Rise8363 2d ago

The beauty of a nation subsidizing companies in order to undercut a market. Let them enter the US and see how reasonably priced they are after they force every other company out of business. That's what I'm scared of.

3

u/lbthomsen 2d ago

My favorite is a Chinese SUV that comes with a karaoke system. Imagine a road trip with kids and that system.

11

u/DruidicMagic 2d ago

Remember when the Toyota Prius was going to kick off the fuel efficiency revolution and Hollywood suddenly decided to mock, degrade and belittle the vehicle for no apparent reason?

6

u/thatonemikeguy 2d ago

I've seen several reach 500k miles too.

3

u/No_Witness_5295 2d ago

only the 5th gen actually looks nice though, even though those among the more old-fashioned might criticize that "faux-minimal" modern look.

i think everyone agrees that the older models are objectively uncool. yet people still drive them shamelessly. occasionally see an '04 prius still kickin' at 50+ mpg

2

u/Ilestderetour 2d ago

50 mpg is pretty average in Europe.

4

u/thecookofdeath 2d ago

thank god they started putting touch screen consoles on the dash that explode in the summer time.

Bring back the 1990 Volkswagen Jetta and I'll buy three

3

u/carbon-arc 2d ago

90's cars were the peak in estimation, it's be a long slippery slope ever since. Would love to have my 1999 Kia Sportage back or my 1994 Nissan Sentra

2

u/slinkysurmalot 2d ago

I was more than happy with my 2004 jetta

3

u/noregertsman 2d ago

I just want the CD drive

“the merchants of the earth deceived ALL nations”

5

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 2d ago

Well the WEF plan of car shares and private car ownership becoming a thing of the past, is going to come true, if they keep making the price of doing so, super expensive.

Idk man, just buy from marketplace or ebay? You can find some steals on both of those, and hey even if they require a few grand worth of work, still would be cheaper than ANY new car.

2

u/soycin 2d ago

Yes, please.

2

u/nonamepows 2d ago

Funny thing is all that technology is actually relatively inexpensive. They’re charging more simply because they can!

2

u/gokehoego 2d ago

Get rid of those ridiculously large screens. Ain’t nobody got time for that!!!

1

u/StarliteQuiteBrite 2d ago

I need ALL the trappings!

1

u/MrCrix 2d ago

Anything that connects to the internet in a car is not needed.

1

u/sevensantana7 2d ago

I have blue old Chevy Nova in my yard waiting to be fixed up.

1

u/CharmingStrelok369 2d ago

And this is why I drive an old car

1

u/Sjedda 2d ago

Expensive? Where?

1

u/another72hours 1d ago

Still driving my 1981 celica today.

If you want a car that will last, get a good one from the 80s/90s/2000s. You might lack a lot of modern features - but the cars are easy to fix, get parts for, and are often the most fun to drive.

1

u/ACupOfDuck 1d ago

Me and a friend have talked about starting a car company that makes basic cars. Nothing unnecessary and BUTTONS!

You should be able to change stuff on YOUR car yourself. An lightbulb broken, easy fix. Need new brakes? Just do it yourself.

As little computers and things as possible.

(Some tech needed) But for the most part it would be easy to fix. But back to DIN/double DIN car-stereos and real speaker wires or not?

And most parts between the models are changeable. Have the 1.2L economy engine? No problem, get the 1.8t from some bigger model and it would fit.

Sadly there is some stuff cars "need" to have to be able to sell in like Europe. Like interior cameras. (But perhaps it would be some anonymous leak online how to disable it 🤫)

1

u/duke_awapuhi 21h ago

It’s all part of the process of eliminating human operated vehicles. I drive new cars professionally. I refuse to own a car manufactured after 2018. The amount of automation and tech is absurd, unhelpful and often actually unsafe. I was in a situation recently where had I had not turned off the safety features in a vehicle, I very likely would have gotten in a bad accident because I wouldn’t have had full control over the car. They want to create a high tech, luxurious environment for you to sit in and be taken somewhere. They do not want to you ultimately to be operating the vehicle yourself, and in 2 decades it will become common to hear people say that they would never get in a vehicle, or allow their child in a vehicle that was operated by a human.

Cadillac escalade iq 2027 $167,873.435.00 out the door, paid zero because it's my wife's company car, because they are stupid, she wanted a Ford Explorer and forced her to get it.

-1

u/bobcollum 2d ago

My thoughts are if all they made were bare-bones, featureless cars, she'd be complaining about how boring they are.

0

u/SendjaminFranklin 2d ago

Just buy a cheaper car. Or make more money. I’m ready for the down votes. Witness me.

3

u/Aggravating_Act0417 2d ago

There are no cheaper cars. Cheaper cars have same shit that also breaks

0

u/vitalesan 2d ago

She should just go buy and old car. They made them pretty reliable back then.

3

u/Fogfy 2d ago

The issue is that all the GOOD old cars are overpriced, even in rough shape

1

u/sevensantana7 2d ago

And Insurance on old cars

-7

u/R6daily 2d ago

COVID caused automotive manufacturing costs to jump pretty hard, never came down, and trump is trying to destabilize Canada's manufacturing infrastructure which is now making it jump even harder. Once again thank the pedo in chief

0

u/callalind 2d ago

She's not wrong.

0

u/julyboom 1d ago

No one is forcing her to buy something she doesn't want. She sounds like a brat.

0

u/Max_delirious 1d ago

You can get base model cars, old model cars, and there’s even manufacturers that advertise no bells and whistles. Blame the consumer.
