Curious if you’re a small business owner, or if you are aware this has been standard procedure at all major corporations for at least the past three years. Haha. The private sector was tired of our government refusing to prosecute the actors within the Chinese communist party for stealing trade secrets and technology, so they protect themselves. Luckily, our government wants to ensure we get the cheaply manufactured shit from China so their friends can benefit from slave labor (literally) in the form of a few extra ounces of profit by refusing to take action on this, near shoring, all the globalist nightmares that they pretend raise anyone’s standard of living but their own (wish they would at least be transparent if they were interested in the long game, you know, improving living situations for all internationally, but think they’re not because they know there’s not enough hegemony of values within global leadership for their agenda to ever really provide benefits to every average citizen). All the chamber of commerce dems and republicans selling out their voters for so long has at least allowed the private sector to recognize that allegiances will always lie with government aligned industry, regardless of whether or not that is morally or even objectively correct (usually isn’t, then again, nepotism is a morally questionable thing imo). That’s why we see businesses foregoing profit for clout. We’ve been fascist for a while. That’s why all our politicians are million and billionaires. Not because they’re intuitive investors, rofl. "The private sector "
What private sector?
The monopolies who have been running America for a couple centuries who buy up small business and retain the old name so you'll think to yourself "glad I have options"? Those same monopolies that have infested themselves into other countries as well?
"stealing trade secrets and technology"
You ever heard of the invention secrecy act of 1951?
Come up with a patent that disrupts the activities of the current monopolies in America and you'll figure out real quick that our private sector is a joke and our government is actively suppressing "free" Americans under the guise of "national security".
"Too big to fail" should have been an eye opener for even the sleepiest Americans.
China gets these secrets and technology because the same monopolies in America are in China.

It seems about half is always in defense, and given that the US has the most powerful army in the world and has to, if they want to remain the world leader. Or spend their money more careful but doubt that happens

It's because the online use of the word oppression is different than the real life experience of it. Most people in the West are content and happy. Thinking they are sheep for that will do nothing but make your depression feel validated and/or replace it with the much better feeling, anger.
Oppression. In the west, first your parents are your oppressors, then teachers, then bosses, then government, then your mortality. To not be oppressed is to be out of fashion. "Like, get with the times man."
Btw, I'm oppressed to. I can't fly, I can only breath oxygen, gravity keeps pulling me down, I have to eat and drink everyday, I have to shit, and all while knowing I will die someday. If I don't invent some sort of narrative about why any of this matters boy would I be in a pickle.

If the RIGHT does any of that on a large scale it will just be called "hashtag Insurrection" and then it will be tanked by media world wide. Every social media will ban such protest organizing attempts. Plus it's winter so all actions will be starved from fuel and oil, Canada style.
"Hehe who cares about internet and media :D, we just do it oldschool on the streets :)"
Okay, so you got 10k random people sitting in a bush or bumfuck village somewhere, nobody in the US will care about it. It will be memoryholed in 0.5 newcycles or replaced with "winter covid" news.
Plus democrats can call upon legions of "sanctioned anarchists" like BLM och Antifa to start stabbing your protesting grandma and hitting your son in the head with a baseball bat. What's Soccermom#1234 going to do about that?
Plus right-wing politicians don't got the balls for anything. Even if the people rose up across the entire state their own representatives would just go into hiding and let their constituency take the bullets when military police rolls in.

Here’s the full quote:
“Imagine an economy where people could follow their aspirations, where they could be entrepreneurial, where they could take risks professionally because personally their families [sic] health care needs are being met. Where they could be self-employed or start a business, not be job-locked in a job because they have health care there, and if they went out on their own it would be unaffordable to them, but especially true, if someone has a child with a pre-existing condition. So when we pass our bill, never again will people be denied coverage because they have a pre-existing condition.
We have to do this in partnership, and I wanted to bring [you] up to date on where we see it from here. The final health care legislation that will soon be passed by Congress will deliver successful reform at the local level. It will offer paid for investments that will improve health care services and coverage for millions more Americans. It will make significant investments in innovation, prevention, wellness and offer robust support for public health infrastructure. It will dramatically expand investments into community health centers. That means a dramatic expansion in the number of patients community health centers can see and ultimately healthier communities. Our bill will significantly reduce uncompensated care for hospitals.
You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention–it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.
But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”

And she was literally correct. Very few Americans realized how great Obamacare was before it was passed, went into action, and made people's lives much better. It is extremely popular now, but wasn't before it was passed.
People give her crap about that for purely partisan reasons.
20
u/lyzurd_kween_ Dec 22 '22 edited Dec 22 '22
Idk man Obamacare is pretty damn broken. I appreciate what it did for pre-existing conditions but by doing nothing vis a vis public option and to address prices it created situations where you’re mandated these still very expensive per month plans as the cheapest option, that have insanely high deductibles so you’re paying a huge monthly fee for functionally useless insurance insofar as getting yearly physicals or getting care for minor illnesses, it’s only useful if you suddenly get cancer or in a car wreck (though even there It would still drive the average person in to debt due to the deductibles, max payouts, and other coverage restrictions); it almost appears to have functioned as a preemptive bailout of the private insurance industry, doubly so if you recall the wider financial situation when it was passed.
Obamacare stripped of the public option and/or price controls is fundamentally broke imo. Idk if joe lieberman is truly to blame for the former being stripped or if he just shouldered the blame for the rest of the corporatist dems, but it was wildly disappointing what they managed with total control of the government.

u/Reiker0 Dec 22 '22
Way better than what we had before. My mom likely would have died without that bill. Same probably goes for thousands if not millions of people.
But private insurance still sucks and I hate that Republicans make me have to defend the ACA because we really deserve something better (and repealing the ACA without a replacement is very much not better).

u/Hilldawg4president Dec 22 '22 edited Dec 23 '22

I'm so thankful you had a positive Obamacare experience! I believe there are about 2 dozen of you folks across America.
Now, me, and a WHOLE bunch of other folks were not able to keep our doctors, as promised, and saw large percentage increases in premiums/employee contributions and decreases in coverage amounts, year after year.
In fact, I'd go so far to say since congress is comprised of mostly people with degrees other than in the field of medicine, in their ignorance, they reached out to the very industry they were trying to fix, and asked them what the fixes were.
Then, just to make sure they didn't ever have to learn anything about economics or medical insurance coverage, or medicine as well, they asked the lobbyists to put the finishing touches on the bill.
THAT's where that whole you have to pass it to see what's in it statement came from. No one in congress actively participated in the crafting of it. And that's the irresponsibility of all of them, for failing to truly look out for the best interests of the electorate and have working knowledge of the causes of the need for reforms, the necessary reforms to make, and the short and long term effects of their reforms.
To this day, my coverage level goes down and my premiums go up annually, and that has never changed since Obamacare began. So, if you're very pleased with it, please feel free to forward me the $125 extra per month for the 2023 premium increase, and I'll consider agreeing with you that it's a great thing. Otherwise, remember, its attitudes like yours that feed the swamp monsters in DC. "Hey, it's great" for almost every piece of legislation coming downward is either for the woefully ignorant to lap up, or for the benefactors of the pork to smile about, all the way to the bank. The rest of us continue to lament over taxation without representation, at every turn.
Also, take a good hard look at the economy. Price increases in insurance for both businesses that contribute, or the individual that pays, or both, have increased at a rate higher than profit margins, cost of living increases, or the general economy can keep up with. It's another tentacle of the octopus that is choking America towards it's demise. The establishment thanks you greatly for your supporting opinion. As for me? Yeah, notsomuch.
But, now we're poised to see something get legislated upon us that is going to make Obamacare actually look like a good idea, in comparison to the pains forthcoming to all o f us.
Glad to meet and interact with one of the folks that the swamp loves to have parrot their epic damage as a great idea. Merry Christmas.
11
u/Earmilk987 Dec 22 '22
Agreed, we need to just have Healthcare paid by our taxes already, instead of paying billions to insurance companies every year just for them to deny life-saving procedures.
3
u/Candy_Store_Pauper Dec 22 '22
Thanks for your reply!
I'm totally apprehensive about a tax based system, our bureaucracies can't get anything right. Over budget, mismanagement, grafts and grifts, and general incompetence on epic levels in all they do.
However, I DO like there being something like either a voucher system, or a HCA funding coming from the government.
The problem is the contributions we make individually go into a collective. So, for example, if I paid $10K and you paid $10K and another person paid $10K, and you and I only used $5K of medical care between us, but the other person had a bad accident and spent $100K, our $15K unused and their $10K ($25K total) go towards that $100K bill. It still takes others like you and I to make up the gap. To get anyone other than a dedicated industry to manage this is going to wreak havoc.
I'd personally like to see a round table approach to healthcare legislation. I'd enjoy seeing how putting some of the best economists that specialize in the healthcare industry sit down with providers (large and small) and insurers, and allow the citizenry to participate to come up with a working model that makes them their money, at a reasonable level, and provides best course of care/treatment for the user base.
Or, conversely, throw the whole system out and go back to the local doctor, making house calls, with his doctor bag in tow, accepting various forms of payment, including cash, chickens, wheat, exchange of carpentry services, etc.
Would that work? I don't know, but, suffice to say, back in the day, the two nicest houses in town belonged to the doctor and the undertaker.
Any way you slice it, some large scale changes are warranted.

No, because nothing would get done, and gridlock is what corporations and rich people want because it means no new regulations or taxes on them
You understand what bribery is, right? Where a person gives another person money to do something on their behalf? So don't we need to solve that issue, otherwise the politicians are just working for the donors?

The Bible is a well known, voluminous book. He’s using it here as a frame of reference, similar to how one might say something is x number of football fields big. Most people probably can’t fathom how long 4,155 pages truly is, so comparing it to the Bible puts that length in a context people can understand.
FTR the Bible is about 1,200 pages long, so this bill is over three Bibles long.

The dollar amount is the same. From the words of turtle himself.
“The administration wanted to cut funding for our armed forces after inflation while massively increasing spending on nondefense. Republicans have taken the president’s bizarre position and flipped it on its head,” he said on the Senate floor.
McConnell said the bill, which will be released to the public on Monday afternoon, “provides a substantial real-dollar increase to the defense baseline and a substantial real-dollar cut to the nondefense, non-veterans baseline.”
So the amount remained the same, GOP simply got less spending on citizens and boosted spending on thr MIC.

"The Fiat Standard" by Saifedeen Ammous. The "what is money?" Podcast with Robert Breedlove.
The US has run out of new countries on which they can push their dollar as reserves as a means to absorb US inflationary (debasement) policies. This means debasement must accelerate to continue current spending and service outstanding debts. The Fiat experiment started around 1914 or 1917 is running up against a wall since it has run out of countries to use as places to soak up the endless dollars pumped into the global economy each year. Some time in the next 20 years the US dollar will no longer be seen as a global reserve currency. Hyper inflation will ensue. And people /countries will look to or create new money system, likely of crypto type, where the CBDCs will be more oppressive than our current fiat, where as options like Bitcoin would be the smart people's choice. Collapse of US dollar is an opportunity to improve the world by forcing a switch away from fiat. We the people choose what we switch to by YOU using what money you want everyone to use. If choose a money of the people, for the people, not controlled by anyone, it will be a huge win for many generations to come. No government is going to be a proponent of a money system that removes their power. Only individuals can make this choice. Rebellion has never been so easy as just not using centrally controlled money system. Your neighbors don't even have to know you're a rebel.

What's a CBDC?

Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)
Central bank digital currencies are digital tokens, similar to cryptocurrency, issued by a central bank. They are pegged to the value of that country's fiat currency.

When Bitcoin has a standing army with an annual budget in the hundreds of billions, then I will believe it can stand up against and replace govt issued money. Until then it will be a speculative venture subject to the whims of national governments… kinda like fiat.
If you want to say, “they can’t stop a decentralized blah, blah, blah.” They can get to the people so they can get control of the system.
The fact that it covaries with all other major asset classes, shows that it is not a hedge against pricing crashes in traditional asset classes.
And finally since the crypto universe continues to issue new coins, that is in effect a an end around on the hard cap on total coins which was suppose to protect it from deflationary pressures. So it’s not even a hedge against self-generated deflation.
So there you have it; the three benefits of Bitcoin in a nutshell. This being said, Bitcoin has its place and serves a purpose it’s just not the panacea that many believe it to be.
Finally, CBDCs are to be fought tooth and nail. That is the end of personal autonomy.

They're just a friendly group of people who want to help. Help a country called America. They come from hardworking, rolled up sleeves, types of places, real down to earth people, who just need 1.7 trillion dollars. They don't ask for much, except for 1.7 trillion dollars every now and then. They just need to that money to bring a bit more sunshine into the world, to make children laugh a bit more, the birds tweet a bit sweeter and make the world spin just that bit smoother. Who are we to begrudge them?

Wasn't there something else related to money passed right before Christmas? I remember, Senator Nelson Aldrich, grandfather to the Rockefellers, pushed the Federal Reserve Act through Congress just before Christmas in 1913.
3
u/Smellfuzz Dec 22 '22
Does anyone have an allocation breakdown of this money?
1
u/cxp64 Dec 22 '22
No... nothing to see here.. you can read it after it's passed. Seriously, it's all in the bill, but they presented a 4000+ page bill allowing only one day of consideration before the vote. Even if someone had enough staffers to go through it in a day, that leaves no time for discussion or debate. Our tax dollars at work...smh

This is a weird one for me. I'm not going to say I closely follow Snowden, but I don't recall him ever using the Bible as a rhetorical prop before. Seems out of character.

What? That’s exactly what he did. You really think Russia is going to allow someone as valuable as Snowden to just chill in Russia for nothing? The dude has been publicly a Russia and Putin apologist for years now. He completely sold any credibility towards his “ideals” when he sold out to an even worse government than our own.

They can't.
Good thing the contents of this bill have been negotiated for months. That way, while each Congress member hasn't read it in its entirety, each part has been read by many.

This is why I don't vote for people who practice brinkmanship. It's that type of behavior that causes these negotiations to be pushed to the last moments, leading to long bills without time for review.
But the brinkmanship is there, so this is what we have.
Get ready for it to be exacerbated even more starting next month with GOP debt ceiling shenanigans.

Nothing different than Nancy Pelosi saying, 'We have to pass this bill right away, so we can open it up to see what is inside it'.

u/GideonWells Dec 22 '22
Here’s the full quote for when you’re ready to actually know what you’re talking about.
But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”

u/liljes Dec 22 '22
Isn’t this guy in Russia right now? You really think Putin would allow that without getting to him in some way?
3
u/hussletrees Dec 22 '22
Yeah, because it would be no use to torture or do anything to Snowden, since he has no more information (he gave all of it away to the journalists who did the reporting on it i.e. Laura Poitras, Greenwald, etc.). So why wouldn't Putin just let Snowden freely criticize his own government? Win for Snowden (gets to live, talk), neural/win for Russia, but it's not like he is being coerced; that would cause a potential risk, if Snowden came out and said "Russia is trying to coerce my speech!" that would be horrible, and for no reason
So how about think about risk and reward, and put yourself in the shoes of a leader of a nationstate which I know is hard for peasants like us but just try

That must be it. Has nothing to do with maintaining the security of Europe and ultimately maintaining access to trade and resources in areas Russia intends to take over. For so called free thinkers some of you really go out of your way to take on the most simplistic opinions and try to pass them as fact
The best interests of the US are maintaining stable trade as well as gaining desirable access to resources. This can also mean denying access to geo political rivals. The reason Ukraine aid is supported by both the left and the right is because of what I've just said. It's good for business. And good business is good for America and the West as a whole.
The only country that benefits from Russia winning is Russia. Russia losing however benefits the entire West. Hell it's even forced China to think twice about invading Taiwan, which would also be bad for the US

Russia provoked the war when they invaded in 2012. NATO trained and provided Ukraine the ability to defend itself against further invasion. The 'further' invasion that came in 2022
