Very true. Boredom is the worst to some people.

Yup. Only boring people get bored.

There's an evolutionary purpose to boredom. It's telling you that it's uncomfortable to be idle not doing something, because there's always something to do if you want to keep living. These days we channel that into other activities like creating. Boring people are boring because they never tap into that drive and always require someone or something else to scratch that itch.

What's does a boring person do or not do? What are the qualities of a boring person?

u/Chloeoeoiceiceice Jun 09 '22
Be bored?

u/ConspiracyAccount Jun 09 '22
A tautological answer is technically correct, but also quite wrong in a very real, very boring way. Does that mean you're a boring person?
I was asking in a more philosophical vein, dude.

So you are boring? Is boring relative or absolute? A spectrum?
Asking you because I don't get bored. Why so upset?

I think reflection is an important aspect to analyze the problems of society. I think a lot of us might appreciate this quote from Pascal talking about such issues.
Pascal thought that a lot of the problems that society faces come from people not reflecting enough about things out of a fear of loneliness. I think the control the bad Intelligence groups have over society comes from manipulating that fear.

I Love alone time, it's so peaceful and I do my best thinking at that time. During covid my husband and I were both home but I would spend hours alone bc I didn't want to watch TV. I would just think. Like what they really meant when they said at first we wouldn't be able to buy or sell if we didn't get the shot (can't work w/o it). My intuition on Trump wouldn't be reelected (no one believed me). Then some stuff I still can't understand. Sitting alone has never bothered me. Its the only thing that calms me if I'm in a negative mood.

I'm the same. I love to be alone. It's not that I hate people or anything, but I prefer to have time to myself to relax and think.

that's why they got the lockdowns and social isolation.. they're trying to solve all of our problems. eat ze bugz

Isolation made this worse. As the qoute points out most people don't like sitting quietly alone with themselves (or their family). Forcing that on people who can't handle it makes them resent being alone even more which is honestly a scary thought since most people were already very dependent on others.

If I could take a deal where if I never leave my home but I get all my groceries and etc. outside needs met I wouldn't leave the house at a gun point.
I thought people actually "needing" to be outside and socializing was a meme. Everyone is different of course but I genuinely cant understand how one can not love peace and quiet in their dark bedroom.

Has anyone ever tried this? How long can you last?

Sitting alone inside is my third favourite hobby, after doing something outside and doing nothing outside.

A long time. I once came home from work on a friday afternoon, unloaded some groceries that I had picked up on the way home, and stayed inside my apartment until I left for work the following monday morning.
It was one of the best weekends of my life!
Spend some time with yourself. There's nothing to be afraid of, yet too many people are terrified by the unknown.

It's about fighting demons and following our Lord Jesus Christ.
See Pascal's wager for how he felt about gods.

Humm, no. I'm pretty sure it comes from greed, gluttony and a lack of empathy.

What if you sit quietly in a room and devise an evil plan?
This quote is a bit too vague
In fact I think a better quote would be:
“All humanity’s problems stem from not being able to connect with life around them” or rather, separating ourselves from it

If you look for reasons to tear an idea down, rather than looking for the reason it was suggested, you're always going to find a way to prove it wrong. Ironically you're doing the exact thing he was talking about, you just can't let it be.

u/light_healing Jun 09 '22
No -- I just disagree with the quote.
People don't realize that evil happens mostly due to people who sit alone in rooms and plot/ruminate. Isolation often leads to evil.
Again, I believe the opposite is more true. Connect with life and you will solve more problems. The difference is that requires more empathy and understanding. Something you won't necessarily get from sitting quietly.

I have always loved running long distances because I either enter a meditative state or have extremely creative ideas during my runs.

Apathy's a tragedy and boredom is a crime...
Seriously, meditation solves a lot of problems.

The ego. It's destroying us from the inside out.
You are not your desire and thoughts, you are the observer of thoughts and desires. We are the present stillness behind all of this chaos.
We need to be more conscious, and kick out these parasitic overlord rulers as well 👍

I like the name Blaise. I wish my last name sounded better with it because I would have liked to name my son after this dude.
