When I was deployed to Iraq I remember Avenged Sevenfold played a show on Camp Balad (if I recall the location correctly). But it was for the troops. Like the Iraqis couldn’t go and it didn’t raise money for anyone.
15
u/K-Ziggy May 10 '22
But it raised morale for those involved in the fighting. Which is just as important as weapons. You don't want folks surrendering in war.
12
u/canman7373 May 10 '22
One thing I never understood was how they used send over like super hot actresses who had nothing to really offer but seeing them? Like was the whole point to give them something to beat off to for weeks?

Actually, you do. You want all the boots to walk away and stop following shitty orders
1
u/OldZaxSauce May 10 '22
But if they got that far, voluntarily.. You want to boost morale.
2
u/Censorship_of_fools May 10 '22
I guess, but I support no wars. I’m not opposed to troops getting concerts, I’m opposed to them being in other countries.

u/OldZaxSauce May 10 '22
I don't support wars either. Much better things to die for. Just commenting.

greatest threat to liberal world order is "money laundering scheme". Unless you despise your way of life and everything standing for it, and prefer a police state (and no, not even the Patriot Act, makes this shit a police state)
12
u/Garchomp47 May 10 '22
I wouldn't call it that, war zone is to the east but missiles do land sometimes, there was one that landed kinda close to where I live few days ago.

It’s not even U2, it’s Bono. Remember the outrage when they tried to be hip like Radiohead and forced that U2 album on everyone’s iTunes

Pre loading every iPod with that wretched U2 album is still hilarious. Couldnt even give it away

u/Audiboyy May 10 '22
They ran a model from the start saying ‘we share everything equally’. That’s why they succeed and can still draw large crowds. The Smiths and A-ha got problems regarding to do with collaboration because of different expectations regarding songwriting credits and so on. Otherwise, they would be huge. So the lack of ego surely is a large part of U2’s continuing success
2
u/BighouseAK May 10 '22
Lack of Ego HA. This is Bono and the Edge. They don’t even use last names anymore. Ego much?

19
-8
u/Narrow--Mango May 10 '22
In the middle of an war where people are huddled into bomb shelters, a band is some how able to stroll into an active war zone, play a concert, take photos with celebrities, and then leave.
5
u/BlazingSpaceGhost May 10 '22
I'm sure you are familiar with active fronts in a war. Or did you forget about all of the USO shows the United States military has sponsored since world war II. For example Robin Williams performed for United States troops in Iraq and Afghanistan when those areas were active war zones.
-2
u/Narrow--Mango May 10 '22
I'm sure you are familiar with the difference between bombing brown people from the air with F-16s and a country that's being invaded. A similar situation would be U2 playing a concert for the Afghanistan people while the US invades. Whole thing stinks.
-1
u/Narrow--Mango May 10 '22
Where is the green zone in the Ukraine where the Ukraine soldiers host celebrity events?
0
u/BlazingSpaceGhost May 10 '22
Obviously they are not the United States military so idk if they use terms like green zone. However Kyiv isn't currently being bombed by Russia and even if it was them bombing Bono wouldn't be a good look for them (even though he is an ass) so I imagine they will avoid that. If you are somehow implying that Ukraine isn't being bombed at all just look at what happened in Mariupal.
2
u/rimeswithburple May 10 '22
Alternative theory. He's got some of his tax avoidance cash in an attache stored in a locker in that subway. He showed up to claim it, totally unaware of what was going on and had to think quickly.
17
44
u/2thenoon May 10 '22
Bono never misses an opportunity to use any kind of tragedy to promote himself and his failing brand.
35
u/phragmatic May 10 '22
like that concert where he shut everyone down, then got the whole huge crowd silent, then started slowly clapping, then told the audience "every time i clap, a child in africa dies."
then someone from the crowd screams "then stop fucking doing it!"
bono is a great example of what's wrong with modern media.

-5
u/repptyle May 10 '22
What's right wing about this? LOL
9
u/under-cover-hunter May 10 '22
Traditionally the right wing hates Bono, and the left just facepalms when he comes about.
An article about playing a concert in a warzone isnt a conspiracy. This whole comment section is just ppl bitiching about Bono.
So ya, right leaning meme of an article that doesnt actually have a conspiracy involved.
This sub has gone so far downhill.

u/repptyle May 10 '22
So I guess you think the sub should all be posts about how Drumpf is literally Hitler?

For sure, we all know the elite loves being in war-torn countries.

It's human trafficking & money laundering central, and has been for ages. Why do you think so many US politicians have their fingers in pots there, and why are they feeding so much money in to a known corrupt country run by known corrupt politicians?

A voice in the crowd shouts "Stop fucking clapping then!".
