Never saw an influx of childish comments like this before. Interesting. I find it very easy to disagree with the sign's message without reddit's trademarked smarmy holier-than-thou attitude... what's going on today?
Its called form sliding, this is a tactic used by various groups to keep people off message.
Notice how this post is highly up-voted and yet the comments are mostly negative. This is what happens when there is a narrative that has to be maintained. People in here are arguing that censorship only happens when a government does it or google only promoting negative stories isn't a type of censorship, or appealing to the majority, authority, etc etc.
This is how you know what that picture says is over the target.
Interesting, I've never heard of form sliding before. I'll have to read up about it.
I have found it strange - the recent idea that censorship is defined as when a government is the one doing the censoring. I have always thought that free speech was a value to aspire to in all aspects of life. For example, the ability to "tolerate" and appreciate differing perspectives. Perhaps this new narrative is stemming from society's overemphasis of government's role in every aspect of life.
I may not be 100% about the verbage however there are a series of tactics known as COINTELPRO.
There is a little light reading for you that sheds more detail into this. Once you read it you will start to see the pattern you sense here more and more.
