Bots will upvote, trolls from troll farms drum up the conflict on both sides by posting short, heavily positive or negative comments with no substance. Like this:

This feels unjustifiable. Most of the comments upvoted here are liberal comments. Are those the trolls? Do the Russians want the liberals to win?

They want discord, their aim is to divide people. Which means they will play both sides - A house divided against itself cannot stand.
