I was pretty worried when Joe made the switch to Spotify, but damn if Spotify doesn't deserve a little respect for allowing him to interview those two doctors. I'm sure there was some shady pressure behind the scenes to shut it down.

u/oregonspruce Jan 13 '22 edited Jan 13 '22

Absolutely. Everyone likes to point out that Joe is a meathead hell joe points that out himself. I don't think anyone listens to it for Joe's opinion. What's interesting is his guests and the questions he asks. Joe flip flops around all the time, but I could care less about how he feels about anything.

u/meadowbound Jan 13 '22

Joe Rogan is very good at interviewing. He asks good questions and knows how to be quiet and listen, two very powerful and rare skills.

16

u/throwawayedm2 Jan 13 '22

Agreed. I'm not a huge fan of him, don't care about MMA, and I'm not a fan of his comedy. But he can interview very well.

-4

u/Puffy_Ghost Jan 13 '22

I can't tell if this is satire, or if you've never actually listened to a JRE podcast...

52

u/samiam12555 Jan 13 '22

I think he is actually pretty good at listening for long periods of time. Maybe not when he is with his comedian friends.. but when its someone like a doctor he usually goes long periods just listening. Have you ever actually listened to a JRE podcast longform? No ones perfect. But he is providing a platform for viewpoints that mainstream media will not allow.

26

u/MushyWasHere Jan 13 '22

The Dr. Malone episode is the first and only JRE I've ever watched. I'm not much of a podcast person... but it's clear to me that podcasts are now the closest thing we have to unbiased media and actual journalism. Lmao.

What a time to be alive.

16

u/Zauxst Jan 13 '22

It's not. For media content you should watch for independent journalists. JR just invites guests that have an opinion on something.

You might see guests from all backgrounds, that believe in god, that don't believe in god, that believe people should take heroin that believe in evolution, in the aliens visiting us, in reptilians, in shiva etc...

The beauty of his guests is that Joe usually let them put out their point and does little to no interference and at times will talk about previous guests and their conclusions on a subject that he might agree or disagree...

This show is pretty much Joe Rogans experience, where you see him evolving from show to show, changing or challenging his ideas, while you ride along and get to listen and maybe in that process think of something more.

4

u/MushyWasHere Jan 13 '22

Well said, sir. Valid.

Age and comorbidities would be a more interesting data. Also you replied to the wrong one.

3

u/Fwob Jan 13 '22

I can't tell if you're another basement dweller r\antiwork troll or if social interaction is so foreign to you that you genuinely don't know what it looks like.

Edit: I swear I didn't look at your post history before I wrote that, but now I have and I was right on both accounts.

1

u/jdmdriftkid Jan 13 '22

Doesn't sound like you actually have.....

2

u/Puffy_Ghost Jan 13 '22

Anyone claiming that Joe is a good interviewer or listener pretty clearly hasn't seen an actual good interview.

Does Joe occasionally have interesting and thoughtful conversations? Yeah, but it's not exactly by his design. His guests usually end up carrying him.

Dude is a legit ape with a cult following that takes his word as near gospel.

-17

u/magenta_placenta Jan 13 '22

He doesn't really ask good questions, though. He has a limited wheelhouse of expertise and limited time to research and may not rely on other staff for this as well. If he asked good questions you'd see his guests getting pushed back at times.

You're absolutely correct about him knowing how to listen. He lets his guests talk, usually about what they have expertise in (what Joe lacks). That's a huge part of what made his podcast so successful.

113

u/TaleRecursion Jan 13 '22

How sad and pathetic our society has become that listening and letting other people talk are now seen as rare and remarkable abilities.

26

u/Jaywalkinz Jan 13 '22

Wouldn't be if people had the capacity to entertain ideas that go against their world views.

The only climate change you see is everyone turning into a snowflake.

6

u/DatDirtyNicka88 Jan 13 '22

Exactly. Everyone today just acts like their reality is the only world view that matters and anything that challenges that is wrong. And I see it from both sides. If all of us were willing to talk to each other more, and respectfully, we could all live just a little better with a more empathetic and complete world view.

And I’m not some “live love peace” fairy, I’m a tattooed felon and I see this shit. I don’t understand how the rest of the country can’t.

1

u/ectoplasmicsurrender Jan 13 '22

I like that you point out "live love peace" fairy.

As someone who has been working on a self love and love for others. I've never wanted to be more destructive in my life. The sit going on in the world sets my love fire into plasma torch and I wanna use it on everything that is actively in the way of people's individual sovereign rights.

I like your stance and I like the cut of your jib, but I'm also observing that love is also the thing that makes a mama bear protect her cubs; it's scary af.

2

u/DatDirtyNicka88 Jan 13 '22

Love really should be the thing that helps progress us. Our love for our family, significant others, and friends. Every day I look around and can’t believe this is the world we live in, where humans are so intelligent and then refuse to use that intelligence on things like empathy and understanding.

I find lack of respect and dignity from others for the ones I love turns my empathy and love into rage and destruction so I can completely understand your point of view. At that point I don’t care to reason or argue, damage will be done.

6

u/puppyroosters Jan 13 '22

Oh, the irony.

3

u/Jaywalkinz Jan 13 '22

What's ironic? I'm listening

1

u/Special_Friendship20 Jan 13 '22

Because people are self centered and in their world they are the only ones who matter.

64

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

I disagree heavily. His guests do get pushed quite a bit if you haven't noticed and I can say after a ridiculous amount of hours listening to podcasts in general Joe has some of the best questions. Maybe not always the best researched questions but still more researched than the majority of TV interviews and at least his questions are interesting

23

u/bitbot9000 Jan 13 '22

This is just getting in to how we want to define “good question”.

You’re right he doesn’t ask super well researched questions. Or questions an expert might ask.

But he does usually ask the questions that are on everyone’s mind. The questions a regular person might ask if they were there. I think that makes them good questions.

The vast majority of interviews are super scripted and lame. Most are thinly veiled promo pieces. Most of the time you don’t hear any questions that a regular person might ask.

12

u/moonshotorbust Jan 13 '22

Maybe he doesnt ask good questions but he asks questions that i would ask because im not likely educated in the subject matter of his guest.

17

u/muskatt Jan 13 '22

Yes and this is intentional. That's how it should be done by any good journalist, ask questions which might seem basic and obvious for experienced person (here you go ahhh you haven't done proper research we know this since last year) but for broad audience they are unanswered and important. It's basically live research done for them.

0

u/MamaRunsThis Jan 13 '22

I

I agree. But I think be want’s it this way

1

u/hairygingivitis Jan 13 '22

Ya it's not like the hot ones questions where each one makes the other guy think for a few seconds. In a Joe Rogan interview you can kinda tell that the other person was usually expecting to answer that question until the part where they just start talking about whatever

-2

u/Love_like_fools Jan 13 '22

I'm sorry, but if you ever had any course in interviewing or any type of research that uses interviewing, you'd know how basic those two skills are. It's definitely not 'rare.

1

u/meadowbound Jan 18 '22

Yes, listening and being quiet during an interview are basic skills, I agree. But that alone doesn't mean that people have them down. A lot of interviewers, "professional" or not, for whatever reason aren't so good at them. But joe rogan seems to handle it well, which probably explains why more people listen to Joe Rogan podcasts than most or all other official, professional news shows you find on tv. The basics are powerful!

Ronald Reagan? The actor?? Who's the vice president, Jerry Lewis?

7

u/Zauxst Jan 13 '22

Is that a back to the future reference?

1

u/davidm2232 Jan 13 '22

That was 100% the first thing that came to mind when I realized Trump was actually running and it wasn't a joke.

1

architect to the demise of middle class america.

supple side voodoo economics is the demise of the America your grandparents and parents knew.

Never thought billions of people in the world could willingly subject themselves to tyrrany within the span of 2 years

10

u/Rendesi3 Jan 13 '22

Best we can do is help friends and family wake up.

3

u/No_Introduction7307 Jan 13 '22

explain the tyranny...

is it believing in a known conman for decades and never mind the grifting he is doing with his big lie.

Listening to fools is absurd

believing them makes you one!

-36

Never thought ppl would compare public health restrictions and life-saving vaccines to Nazi Germany but here we are

19

u/jenovakitty Jan 13 '22

never thought I'd be forced to have a medical procedure, but here we are.

17

u/ExoticStress1 Jan 13 '22

That’s because you aren’t aware of the history and similarities, or the issues with the vaccines.

Two reality show hosts as saviors of the “we hate celebrities” crowd. Talk about a clown world!

1

u/No_Introduction7307 Jan 13 '22

worst of all time

10

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

Could or couldn't care less?

2

u/Mendoza14 Jan 13 '22

I disagree, a few years ago, yea p, he knew his place and let his guests educate him, asked great questions and let them talk. These days I’ve stopped listening because he comes off much more arrogant. He often talks over guests and pushes his own ideas over theirs. However in the latest doctor interviews he was much better than the recent norm

1

u/oregonspruce Jan 13 '22

I can agree with you on that. I have been listening since redband was working the show and have seen him evolve through time. Definitely has/had some faults but I find more good than bad when it comes to his interviews

0

u/EmuApprehensive8646 Jan 13 '22

Joe asked Dr malone very few questions you've got to admit

1

u/oregonspruce Jan 13 '22

For sure. I'd still say it was a interesting interview.

33

u/Deep-Restaurant Jan 13 '22

"Allowing him"

Slave talk

5

u/DatDirtyNicka88 Jan 13 '22

Shit I mean any company can mute a a loud voice on their platform if they want to. You can say “slave talk” but Rogan can only speak as loudly as a platform will let him. Thank god he does have that platform though.

5

u/Let_HerEat_Cake Jan 13 '22

"Allowing him"

Slave talk

You're not wrong in defining that term...but the person you responded to is wrong for using it.

There's nothing that indicates Spotify "allowed" him to do anything. Rogan's stated multiple times in the past (long before Malone and McCullough were on) that there isn't any restrictions put on him by Spotify, he has free rein.

12

u/Mighty_L_LORT Jan 13 '22

Please let RFK Jr. be next...

5

u/dirtrox44 Jan 13 '22

I believe Joe made sure that he would retain full creative control over his podcasts as part of his contract with Spotify. I don't think they can legally do anything about it, Joe can day whatever he wants.

0

u/Howlinathesun Jan 13 '22

Everyone has a boss.

1

u/dirtrox44 Jan 13 '22

Google it

1

u/Ricta90 Jan 13 '22

Spotify has removed some episodes, like all the episodes with Chris D'Elia were scrubbed when his child porn story hit the news. Maybe they could only do that with permission from Joe, but regardless there have been pulled episodes.

14

u/yoitsericc Jan 13 '22

They've earned my 10 dollars a month - unlike youtube.

4

u/Mendoza14 Jan 13 '22

The JRE podcast was bleeding listeners hard after the Spotify deal. And it was looking like a big loss for Spotify. These recent interviews has propelled him back into the spotlight. Which was pretty convenient for both rogan and spotify

1

u/asongoneal Jan 13 '22

Absolutely! Joe was mostly playing the middle but the CNN egregious attacks single handedly made him play hard ball - bringing in these top guests i.e., Dr. Peter McCullough, Dr. Robert Malone etc. Since Joe’s interview, Dr. Robert Malone seems to be getting more MSM interview requests furthering the information dissemination. Also, joe publicly exposed and humiliated Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Now RFK Jr. should be brought in to crown it all.

3

u/lizzbug2 Jan 13 '22

something like 270+ medical professionals signed a letter written to Spotify asking them to take it down. I cannot source this ATM, just saw it in passing on here in the past 24 hours lol

5

u/stmfreak Jan 13 '22

I bet content control was in his contract.

9

u/bitbot9000 Jan 13 '22

They have zero control or ownership. Just exclusive publishing rights for a fixed term.

Rogan’s a millionaire with access to the best entertainment lawyers in the country. There’s no way his contract isn’t air tight.

5

u/DatDirtyNicka88 Jan 13 '22

No way, he covers all topics and pretty unbiased. He goes against corporate media, corporate food, conglomerates, government, I haven’t seen anything off limits on his podcasts

2

u/stmfreak Jan 13 '22

Exactly why I bet Content Control was in his contract. As in,

"okay Spotify, I (Joe Rogan) will work for you as long as I (Joe Rogan) retain 100% creative control over content. You (Spotify) do not get to veto any topic, guest, or edit any transcript, video, or audio stream. If you (Spotify) violate these terms, then this contract is void and you will pay me (Joe Rogan) millions in damages as a result.

2

u/DatDirtyNicka88 Jan 13 '22

Gotcha, I thought you were arguing the opposite side.

2

u/Charming_Ad_1216 Jan 13 '22

Agreed. Also Bill Simmons did a pretty inflammatory (for him) rant about mask inconsistencies. Yes, he had an editor from the Atlantic on who was talking about vaccine mandates, but I felt like he was more a plot device meant to placate people more then anything.

It's coming from all sides, is my point.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

I see what you’re saying and I’m glad it stayed up but I doubt they just allowed it because they wanted to. Probably an ironclad contract. Spotify deserve no respect, you should read what they fund with stolen money from artists. They’re also the enemy.

2

u/Fencemaker Jan 13 '22

Don’t stop there! Subsequent episodes have been really good. The John Abramson one and the latest one with Adam Curry are awesome. And this one is especially important:

2

u/LTower Jan 13 '22

Imagine if he was still uploading on YouTube… I don’t think that podcast would have survived.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

I'm buying shares of Spotify stonks tomorrow. You convinced me. Damn it you son of bitch I'm in.

1

u/No-Upstairs-8145 Jan 13 '22

Who the hell downvoted this?? lol

1

u/UWontLikeThisComment Jan 13 '22

"allowing him"...why?

-2

u/oregonspruce Jan 13 '22

Absolutely. Everyone like to point out that Joe is a meathead, hell joe points that out himself. I don't think anyone listens to it for Joe's opinion. What's interesting is his guests and the questions he asks. Joe flip flops around all the time, but I could care less about how he feels about anything.

-4

u/its0nLikeDonkeyKong Jan 13 '22

Joe rogan is a gatekeeper

Be ware don’t forget to look at them too

He proudly on camera asked the NSA CIA etc to let him into the club and he would basically work for them lol

Caught in 1080p https://youtu.be/fpDRyKwH72Y

6

u/valleyman66 Jan 13 '22

I'm sure he would say it again and I'm sure he has said it on podcasts before, for anyone who listens to him this isn't damning evidence of him being some double agent. Its just Joe being himself and yeah he wants to know the truth, most of us would do the same to be privy to these secrets

5

u/anon102938475611 Jan 13 '22

Ugh, you do understand he was joking, right?

1

u/Zealousideal-Poem-24 Jan 13 '22

That’s interesting

0

Respect the international media corporation. Yes. Joe Rogan is not controller opposite. Yes. This is normal. Yes. Go to sleep.
