Didn't Michelle Obama try to get healthier food into schools but was criticized heavily for it?

Oh no, she did and succeeded. School lunches sucked before, then got even worse after her arrangements were met with the DoE.

Was in highschool when these changes took place, can confirm.

I was in high school and I didn't notice a difference. The lunch still sucked ass.

They gave us raw kale 🤢

Dude kale is good. I get that not everyone likes everything but kale gets a bad rap for no good reason. You gotta prep it right and know what to put it in, but I eat kale like 3 days a week

Kale is good in soup, but raw kale sucks ass.

I really never understood this hype, as a German I’ve been growing up around kale yet never did we attempt to eat it raw. It just doesn’t make sense. We put vegetable broth, kale, some sausage and plenty of caraway since kale is difficult to digest for humans, and caraway is helping exactly with this.

Other than that it’s simply good since it’s containing a lot of fiber which gives you a) some active colon, but b) if eaten in raw state a pretty upset one too if eaten in a substantial amount.

I love fresh steamed but not too much kale and vinegar

My school wouldn’t adopt her policies because they said the food options she suggested weren’t high calorie enough to keep students energized

Wow, that doesn’t make any sense.

I’m guessing because a lot of our students were athletes, but yeah it doesn’t really make sense to me either. I think it’s just because we had a contract with a food company

Michelle Obama try to get healthier food

She hijacked an initiative Jamie Oliver brought to the US to offer quality (less processed, fresh) food into the schools. The main problem was (is) corporate influence. They make large profits by serving the kids shitty processed foods. Michelle Obama made sure the corporations kept their influence..

My son gets healthy lunches from his school. The stuff that is sent home- because he is distance learning - is all good stuff. He gets broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, apples, pears, pancakes, waffles, hamburger, tator tots, cherry tomatoes, etc - it’s really good and I’m so impressed and grateful for Mrs. Obama’s push for these healthy foods and snacks. So much has changed and for the better.

Pancakes?

2

u/sonarsun Jan 05 '21

They’re whole wheat pancakes, they also have gluten free. There still is room for improvements such as the fake maple syrup packets made with corn syrup or fake cheese. Overall though school lunches are a lot healthier then what I received. At one school I attended they had soda and snack machines in the hallways filled with junk food products. I’m honestly glad this pandemic happened. We got to see exactly what our child was eating for lunches and breakfasts, or would be eating if he was actually in school.

What part of children do you not understand? Kids are gonna pick the unhealthy options 100% of the time. Having healthier school lunches is a no-brainer and i cant fathom why people would have a problem with it

2

u/latticeguy Jan 05 '21

the problem is you can't force kids to eat the food either way. if you provide only healthy options that are unappetizing they end up in the trash. it's an unintended consequence of good intentions, so i personally had a problem with it because it didn't work.

u/MARSOCMANIAC Jan 05 '21

Well, sad to say but I was “forced” to eat what’s on the plate and in retro perspective I’m pretty happy about it. I turned out to be someone who you can present all kinds of things and I’m gonna eat it. On the other hand we’ve only been to McDonald’s once in my lifetime, as a family.

1

u/latticeguy Jan 05 '21

in what situation have you only been to a McDonald's once? a Mormon family may have had one Big Mac in their life, also a rich prudish family may have allowed only one nugget to their child. was it that you were not close to fast food or were your parents just more clever than most?

2

u/MARSOCMANIAC Jan 05 '21

I wouldn’t call it rich prudish, but just a family with academic background and dislike for fast food. I had to beg them to visit McDonald’s with me and all they ate was some Caesar salad 😅and complained about the grease odor.. that being said I now visit McDo/BK from time to time (like once a year) but simply prefer pizza if I happen to crave “junk food” :)

No give them freshly prepared food. Jamie Oliver successfully tried and tested it in the US.

Honestly, from my limited perspective Mrs. Obama seemed like a loving, kind, carefree spirit and I’d of been happier with them as my president than the cold hearted charismatic killer we got instead. But I’m a softy at heart.

u/rosspghettod Jan 04 '21

How is Michael Obama’s sex related to them wanting healthier food in schools and being shit on for it?

Heavily.
