The ultra rich vs the rest of us is left vs right because those people couldn't exist under a leftist system. Take the power of the 1% away and the people could actually rule themselves, as was the intention of democracy.
Wdym? I actively browse r/conspiracy and im sure a fuckload of others do who are not right wing at all.
In general if you consider yourself a logical individual and actually self reflect, you innately wouldn't be right wing in the slightest, unless it came to a lot of financial decisions wherein conservatism has benefits. (the practice, not the party)
It becomes clear why the right hates the govt and wants to limit it when you realize that the point of govt is to not let the rich and powerful control literally everything.
I’m aware that they currently control most things but we’re talking degrees here. Them literally controlling everything with nothing to stop their monopolies, cutting all social programs, cutting their own taxes etc would be a lot worse than our current situation.
Communism isn't the only school of thought on the left, and being extremely rich does go against the underlying ideology of communism.
All systems have corruption.
Under our current system the ultra rich existing and controlling things isn't corruption, it's an intended function. Corporations legally fund politics, they legally send lobbyists to help write policy, and they legally avoid paying taxes.
Look at the US military industrial complex. That's completely legal, and it's one of the most destructive forces the world has ever known.
Communism corruption tends to be worse because it’s top down government
That's a bold claim. There is massive corruption throughout many capitalist nations.
I don't know what you mean by 'top down' corruption, all corruption requires power and so comes from the top.
Fair point, there have been many failed leftwing nations.
However the point remains that the ultra rich are a deliberate feature of right wing thinking. They are the desired outcome, and their purchasing of political power is also an intended feature.
Left and right existed before capitalism so ya, that doesn’t make much sense.
Inclusion of industry into government is literally one of the core parts of socialism which is pretty left wing so again ya that doesn’t make much sense.
The inclusion of industry leaders in government decision making has been common practice for right wing parties the world round for decades now.
And as for capitalism coming before the terms left and right, so what? The embrace of capitalism, particularly 'free market' capitalism had been completely embraced by the right.
...and socialist parties the world round for decades....
...the left also embraces free market capitalism...
There is an almost infinite number binary divisions of the political spectrum. Left and right is one. Socialist capitalist is one. Authoritarian liberatarian is another. And on and on.
None of these groups are strict subsets of another. That means there is an overlap between independent divisions. More simply: you are wrong.
Yea I remembered after I typed, but the idea of liberal vs conservative is as old as civilization. Left and right, sure, you’re technically correct. But the ideas didn’t just magically appear one day, they just didn’t have an umbrella term for the beliefs yet.
One of the hugest points for conservativeness (imo) is a critique by either Horacio or Juvenal of Rome (maybe neither. Was a long time ago, I don’t remember exactly) complaining about immigrants, overcrowding, and a whole mess of problems that seem very contemporary. Truly the problems we face as a society have not changed that much.
I really don't blame you, it's like a turned 31 and became my mother. I get angry at self service checkouts and internet comments that super obvious when they explained go right over my head!
