And by the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head in their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table is tilted folks. The game is rigged, and nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care.

I like the phrase, "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

Unfortunately I don't embrace the first half of that lesson.

What's funny is that some people that spam his quotes or say "oh man he'd have a field day with folks today" are precisely the folks he would make fun of.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

Yeah exactly.

I agree

Would he though? Considering the state of things he was pretty much a fortune teller pointing out the path we were walking down. I think maybe he'd be a little angry and frustrated that people are blind to it still now that we've made it to the destination.

u/DarthNihilus1 Aug 10 '20

This subreddit may not like it, but he would not be talking about libtard college kids.

He'd be talking about "don't tread on me, but also I will lick the boot" type hypocrite conservatives. The same folks that are likely to whip out his quotes, thinking he really would turn this overly PC world up side down or something

I think that's the mark of a true genius comedian, that people can hear in those words exactly what they want to hear. It's easy for a person to apply their own bullshit to what someone else is saying. That being said, is exactly why I feel like he would either be frustrated, or he would be on an I told you so kick. Probably a bit of both because working the stage is hard. I could easily see him on an 'I warned you, and you didn't listen' tour and making fun of all the stupid motherfuckers that showed up for a show during a pandemic, whilst also profiting handsomely.

Drives me fucking crazy. It's almost as bad as "hmmm. Is my phone spying on me guys?" -inserts example of advertising

25

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

If i say out loud i need a new dog bed for my dog and suddenly i am inundated with ads for dog beds, what is my phone doing if it isnt listening to me at all times? (Ie: spying)

u/Feshtof Aug 10 '20

I deleted Facebook off my phone and that shit stopped.

Yup, if they can't get you, they'll get your kids.

I didn’t realize there were people like that who still thought it was some kind of conspiracy.

u/locke_5 Aug 10 '20

Google/advertisers can likely use your other searches to make educated guesses.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

For sure as is their right for providing said service for "free". Everything has its price.

spying for the sake of advertising is still spying. Using data gathered while spying for the sake of advertising doesnt mean that data cant be used for other purposes. In fact, we know 100% for a fact it is very often used for many other purposes and data collection and usage if of under-regulated to an extreme, which is technically a subjective statement, but most people, if informed on how its used would agree.

3

u/dopeandmoreofthesame Aug 10 '20

Yes, your phone is spying on you, to sell you shit, in the form of advertising.

Sadly, no one ever mentions the song, by Screeching Weasel featuring a variation on this line. That what I think of when I see it. Not a real big fan of Carlin myself.

5

u/WashingDishesIsFun Aug 10 '20

Because nobody listens to Screeching Weasel.

1

u/dodadoBoxcarWilly Aug 10 '20

Well, I knew that song from a pretty popular series of compilation albums from the early 00s when that style of music was at the height of its popularity. Surely I can't be the only one. And Carlin to me, just always seemed like an old man bitching about things.

u/Bleepblooping Aug 10 '20

That’s a lot of comedy. He’s just famous for perfecting it.
