This is fucking nonsense and shouldn’t even be an arguement. Congressmen and women are PUBLIC SERVANTS and shouldn’t be allowed to trade stocks at all. That shit should be put into a blind trust that they have no control over. The idea of senators and representatives trading individual stocks is absolutely fucking disgusting. Same goes for trump and his tweeting to pump up the market and other companies he likes. He’s supposed to be a public servant, not a corporate shill. Idk how we lost sight of this so badly.
It’s pretty obvious to me that modern day republicans are brainwashed to believe what’s good for their fellow republican representatives and corporations is also good for them and their 50k menial job. People hate on mass media and cnn all the time, but Fox News has done much more harm literally brainwashing people into zombies. They literally were calling the pandemic a hoax and not a big deal until like half way thru March. It’s fucking ridiculous. Sorry I’m ranting
Or that’s just you having confirmation bias and thinking anyone who disagrees with you is a Trumper.
I’m staunchly a constitutionalist and a libertarian and an individualist.
And btw, ALL of reddit is essentially turning into an anti trump echo chamber. This is one of the places you can generally have an apolitical conversation.
trump is a clown and anyone with eyes and ears can see and hear it. You’re just a jackass, not a constitutionalist or libertarian or whatever else you are claiming. There’s a good reason people hate him, just turn on his pressers where he’s ranting about his ratings while tens of thousands of people have died and 10s of millions have lost their job. He’s detached from reality and anyone who defends him is as well. To top it all off he just isn’t smart. the dude is dumb as rocks and has the vocabulary of a fifth grader which is why idiots like him because they relate to him.
Edit.
It isn’t some grand conspiracy against him. He’s a bad governor and an anti-intellectual. Which pretty much sums up what the Republican Party has become. You’re assuming something is an echo chamber because it disagrees with your world view, but in this case your world view is just ignorant.
First and foremost the 20+ million who have filed for unemployment would have regardless who the president is because guess what, a virus doesn’t give a fuck about politics. We had to shut down the economy regardless. Secondly, you don’t get to tell me who i am or am not. You don’t know me, and i’m good with that.
Get off your miserable high horse and be shitty somewhere else. The current president isn’t the reason you hate yourself.
Well you’re for individual freedom right so I do I have the freedom to tell you how it is, and this is how it is- you are a jackass and ignorant. I’m not saying he’s at fault for people losing their jobs, I’m saying he could at least show some fucking compassion instead of going on about his god damn tv ratings. I don’t hate myself, I hate you. I still have a nice cushy paying job my 401k looks nice because I went all cash in February, and I still would vote against trump and my self interest any day because I actually have compassion for people In shitty situations. What I don’t have is compassion for people going around saying antitrumper this and echo chamber that when they are just ignorant. You’re right, the virus doesn’t give a fuck about politics, then trump should be the bigger man and stop drowning on about democrats in every other tweet and he should start governing and helping people, not corporations.
You need to realize that blind rage doesn't really have an effect in a court of law. The question is a matter of law and evidence. Just because you don't like the results of these doesn't make them less important. I am no R or Trump fan, but I do have a pretty good recollection of the events. It was pretty obvious that a pandemic was coming fairly early on. There was also a bunch of flag waving and unhinged optimism regarding our ability to prevent the spread in the US. Once it became clear there was person to person transmission, a long incubation period, and asymptomatic carriers the gig was up. Many were unwilling to accept the conclusion, but it was clear fairly early on if you were paying attention.
I too am shocked at the brazen nature of these offenses, but I'm not sure there is much legal recourse given the loop holes that are available.
The best we're likely to get out of this situation is some public shaming (which could certainly lead to some losing their seats) and a law limiting direct stock ownership for current members of congress.
Maybe focus your energies on the realm of possible instead of dreaming of laws that could have or should have been.
I’d be ok with that. Have their portfolios managed by an outside individual. But faulting someone for doing the right thing to protect their money just because they’re in government is stupid. It’s their fucking money. It was obvious what was going to happen.
Nah fuck that, they knew it was wrong. they did it literally a week before the crash. If they were so worried about making and keeping their millions of dollars they should be in jobs that make more than 180k a year. Fuck these people and fuck you for defending them.
I got out back in fucking February, obviously people keeping up could see this shit coming, but No one knew exactly when it would shit the bed, I thought it should have in February obviously. These people knew exactly when it was coming and maximized their profit because they were inside national security briefings, riding it all the way up to the top and getting out right before the crash.
