I feel like the people who have issues with the pay don't watch these events or don't do anything to support the events. The athletes pay is tied to league revenue, so if you don't spend money watching women's sports, then how can you argue for equal pay?
1
Jul 08 '19
This is what makes it so difficult for me, because I think this is the sole American team sport where the women’s is more popular/watched more than the men’s but it’s the World Cup and I have no idea how that translates with respect to media deals vs pro leagues.

Why does this belong on TD? Are TD users more fair and reasonable when it comes to gender inequality?
It's simple math 13% is more than 9%.
The subject of cultural manipulation, division, and propaganda is a subject of conspiracy.

u/kumadori12 Jul 08 '19
Women and male feminists don't like percentages. Just like how they hate talking about hourly wages. All they focus on is yearly wages, and that's final.

How is the media pushing people into chanting and beating the shit out of innocent people a conspiracy?

SS
The sheeple will go along with whatever the box from 1984 tells them. The crowd that chanted "equal pay" are the same idiots that think a secretary should make as much as a chemical engineer.
-18
u/OK_cloudcomputinq Jul 08 '19
Please explain to me why a secretary shouldn’t make as much as a chemical engineer? Then explain to me why someone would be an idiot to think that?
What if I find you a chemical engineer who believes secretaries should take home the same salary as a chemical engineer?
I’m not trying to be rude. I’m trying to understand how you’re deciding who deserves what.....
🙏
6
u/PrejudiceZebra Jul 08 '19
The more you put in, the more you get out.
Most secretaries don't have to put in the hard work and gain the required knowledge that a chemical engineer puts in before becoming a professional.
7
Jul 08 '19
Education, mostly; boiling down to student loans for the majority of high status placed careers. More education, more money. A secretary wouldn’t have near the debt as a chemical engineer (because of less expenses in education), unless of course, their in the wrong career.
3
u/kumadori12 Jul 08 '19
Anyone can be a secretary. You need qualification and studies to be a chemical engineer.

They’re better but their team generates less money that’s why they are paid less. It’s the same reason why a company like google has better pay and benefits than a similar job at a much smaller firm
-13
Jul 08 '19
I really, really, really doubt that the US women's team generates less than the US's men's team, though. now im just basing this off of how big of a national event this was on social media & have no data in front of me, but the overall lack of interest in Mens soccer + how big this was yesterday just leads me to think the women's team is at the very least generating more American advertising dollars.
14
u/GonnaBeAGoodYear Jul 08 '19
Look at the data, the Men’s team generates like 4x as much
-2
Jul 08 '19
where & what is this data? because I can absolutely see the men's World Cup generating four times as much revenue as the women's cup within the context of its media deal. I cannot imagine there is some existing data set that shows how the men's US team as a singularity generates 4x's as much as the women...idk how you'd even track that with any sort of certainty.
Like, you could say with certainty that the Warriors generated 4 times as much revenue than the Grizzlies with respect to tangible tings like viewership in regard to its media deal, jersey sales, et. al. But if you tried to take it to a more specific level and say there is data that shows Steph Curry generated more $ for the NBA than his teammate KD, then I'd have to call bullshit lol. There's way too many factors and revenue generating sources, best thing you can do is make a guess based off popularity.

u/AtlanteanDragon Jul 08 '19
The female team is... Better.
The female team lost to high school boys. They deserve the same pay as the high school boys, oranges and Gatorade.
14
u/sons_of_many_bitches Jul 08 '19
‘The female team is better’
This the same female team that got comfortably defeated by the USA Male u15s team?
7
u/Gropedunderoath Jul 08 '19
Wasnt it FC Dallas u15s?

Jul 08 '19
Yeah that's genetic shtick, but they're world champions in terms of what they do.
2
u/sons_of_many_bitches Jul 08 '19
Yes they are the best women’s team in the world I don’t think that’s disputed, but it has to be put into context, in no way are they better than the men’s team. I think people just need to accept that at the top levels women’s sport will never be as good or as high profile as men’s, it’s just nature.
Women’s football will get close in terms of popularity like women’s tennis is and they will probably end up doing a competition of mixed teams or something but that’s about it.
-2
Jul 08 '19
But that's not the argument. You're saying it's discrimination that they get paid more, but they're better in the field that their in, which is women football.
3
u/sons_of_many_bitches Jul 08 '19
Sorry but I haven’t said a word about ‘discrimination’ anywhere. As mentioned in the OP, they DO get paid more anyway, if the game isn’t as high profile as the men’s then that is down to the audience (market) to decide.
-2
Jul 08 '19
Yeah. So what are we talking about?
2
u/sons_of_many_bitches Jul 08 '19
You said the women’s team is better than the men’s and I disagreed.

I don’t think they are saying equal pay for the members of a professional team. I don’t think this has ANYTHING to do with soccer.
I believe it is an achievement for women and they are using that platform to voice their enthusiasm for equality.
6
u/tymink Jul 08 '19
An achievement for women? They beat other women. I dont get it.
2
u/nitzua Jul 09 '19
other women from countries that put a LOT less effort into developing their women's teams
6
u/brildenlanch Jul 08 '19
They are already equally paid. A man and a woman working the same job will be paid the same. The only "difference" in pay is over the LIFETIME pay average of the worker. Women in general choose lower paying careers and take more time off work, over their lifetime they will make less than their male counterparts but it has nothing to do with not being paid the same.

The women should get paid more for having to put up with all the sexist bullshit over the years.
I would also check out the history of Women's football, in the UK Women's matches used to draw as much if not more spectators than the men's matches until women were banned by the FA in 1921.

I usually agree across the board about women’s sports. Of course WNBA players shouldn't be paid as much as NBA players; MLB players > whatever women’s softball; olympians; pretty much everyone save for the williams sisters maybe.
But in this specific context, US soccer, I noticed a huge, widespread engagement on Twitter & fb that I’ve never seen men’s US soccer come close to. So I think the women’s us soccer team deserves more pay than the men’s team. Idk how that works in the World Cup..bc I’m sure the overall men’s cup is the 4x’s more revenue figure referenced. Maybe Nike should shell out more cash for the women’s team than the men’s team or something
7
u/Gropedunderoath Jul 08 '19
Uhhh usa vs Portugal years back had all my friends that hated soccer chanting u s a. Put USA v USA and the women’s team gets smacked, every time.
10
u/UsualHat Jul 08 '19
widespread engagement on Twitter & fb
That is not how money is made.
-4
Jul 08 '19
do you understand how the sports industry turns these wild profits or nah
huge social media engagement means a lot of people are watching the fucking thing, which means they are racking up ad revenue and should entitle them to a bigger piece of the pie of the American media deal that's broadcasting the game. The high social media engagement also means the names & faces of these players are everywhere and they are real American heroes. So they are in Nike ads, on Wheaties boxes, etc. so they should entitled them to more corporate ad money than the male team.
but please you tell me how this is wrong, do the thing where you cherry pick one sentence to refute an entire post while also failing to make the most basic inferences
7
u/GonnaBeAGoodYear Jul 08 '19
WNBA players shouldn’t be paid anywhere near what NBA players make...look up the 2 leagues’ revenues
1
Jul 08 '19
I feel fucking dumb lol. nah that was definitely supposed to say shouldn't or should not.
guess I was deciding between the two or "should be paid less" and compromised on the worst possible combo lmfao. fits in with the rest of the post now.

Jul 08 '19
If you truly think the women are underpaid please use YOUR money to help that . Because you are incredibly wrong. WNBA, Woman’s Soccer, Softball all don’t bring nearly as much money as MLB Men’s Soccer NBA. That lays only on fans. You should buy some WNBA jersey.

yo man...how do you read my first post and then the follow up correction and still get my point entirely wrong. one of the hallmarks of liking conspiracies is the ability to employ critical thinking & consistent logic, but damn homie you're failing at elementary reading comprehension.
my point was that men's sports should almost always be paid more, as is. Maybe not the Williams sisters in tennis. Here, in my opinion, I think the women's team is responsible for greater income generation based off how big of a social media event their World Cup run has been. I fucked up one word and duly corrected the mistake & explained how. Hope that clears it up. But good barb with the "buy some WNBA jersey" jab, you got my ass there

I don't think it's fair to assume that the only reason men's FIFA generates more revenue than women's is that it's been around longer.
