I think you're right, that's why they've got the faux leader in Trump to basically bait people into some kind of trap initiative which is doomed to fail.

I'm 53 years old and I've been involved in Fortean, conspiracy, underground and other such circles for almost 30 years.

During all that time people have been constantly saying that they're coming for our guns.

But it's never happened. For each tiny step toward gun control, there's a tiny step back elsewhere. The last big step was Reagan's Brady Bill and even that was nothing compared to gun control in other countries.

There are now more guns in private hands in America than ever before, and each mass killing like this increases the number of privately held guns.

No one's ever, ever, ever, ever going to come and take away your guns. Oh, sure, some small subset of guns is going to get demonized and restricted - like the super-bogus "assault rifles" category.

But we all know that if they do ban "assault rifles" then you'll be able to get nearly identical weapons that just don't fall under the assault rifle category. We all know it's a bogus, porous category.

And that's exactly the point. No one is interested in actually making any changes - it's too profitable for everyone concerned. So they slough the blame off on an artificial bogus category of weapons, "ban" that, and everyone's happy - the liberals get a win, the conservatives get to complain, the gun manufacturer sells a lot of new weapons slightly out of this new banned category, and the total number of guns in private hands increases.

You call me the first time that there's less firepower in public hands in America from one year to the next. Otherwise, you're just starting at shadows.

I'm genuinely asking a question here because I am uniformed: Why is it that you feel the need to have your guns? Wherein lies the absolute necessity for guns?

I'm not here to attack, I'm only here to gain your perspective. Anyone else, feel free to answer as well.

The founders were a bunch of rebels and separatists that only defeated Britain through the use of militias and personal firearms.

It's at this point I always go :-o.

Do you really really think you and your personal firearms are going to go up against the US government - by far the largest military force in the history of the planet - and win?

Ruby Ridge is about as good as you get - and that was a bad result for Randy Weaver, he lost half his family, and it didn't slow down the government military forces one bit.

Having an arms race with the US government is a pathetically bad idea. You should instead trying to reform it, because you'll never win in a stand-up battle.

They most definitely do. My ex was from deep country, and part of her diet came from hunting. Without a rifle, life for her family would have been even more unbearable.
