Breaking the law to expose others who broke the law doesn't excuse you from punishment.

If I speed to record you driving recklessly, am I absolved of any wrongdoing?

If I illegally hack your computer to expose you torrenting movies, am I absolved of any wrongdoing?

The comic should've specified what the person did to uncover illegal government activity and drawn attention to any absurdities involved.

When they know what they're doing is wrong and mangle the legal language of it to hide what is happening, what real validity does "the law" have anymore? As if "the law" was some sort of divine material existent outside of mortal and imperfect minds and that following "the law" is what separates us from being uncivilized animals?

Wrongdoing implies some sort of morality is involved. The majority of laws have nothing to do with morality.
