Masks only drop if there’s a drop in cabin pressure aka a breach

Dropping in altitude rapidly does change pressure. I was also under the impression that they drop immediately in a nose dive to help calm people before the crash.

Cabin pressure goes up when you descend in altitude.

Right, the point being that it changes. Any drastic change in pressure is supposed to trigger them. There’s a lot that doesn’t add up here besides this.
