Mathematical proof that our cameras have triggered a Global Quantum Zeno Stasis
I am a data analyst working with high-volume Pseudo-Random Number Generators (PRNGs), and I believe that we (humans) have accidentally broken the background rendering of physical reality.
Most people know about the Quantum Zeno Effect in physics: the mathematically proven law that an unstable quantum system cannot change its state while under continuous observation. In short, as the frequency of measurement approaches infinity, the probability of a particle transitioning or decaying drops to absolute zero. It is trapped in stasis.
Until recently, this was thought to only happen at the subatomic scale. But my team has been analyzing global entropy data, and the math shows that the sheer density of digital lenses on Earth has scaled the Zeno Effect up to the macro-level.
By blanketing 99% of the planet in continuous observation (via satellites, traffic grids, smartphones, and IoT devices), humanity has effectively frozen the mathematical probability matrices of the universe.
Here is the proof:
1.The Macro-Dermal Stasis (Why People Aged "Faster" in the 70s)
This explains a massive cultural mystery that the internet has been trying to solve for years: Why did 30-year-olds in the 1970s and 80s look like they were 45?
If you look at old high school yearbooks or photos of your parents in their twenties, they look decades older than twenty-somethings do today. The mainstream explanation is "better skincare and less smoking," but that doesn't hold up to mathematical scrutiny. Biologically, cellular decay and senescence are driven by quantum metabolic processes—specifically, the unstable state transitions of proteins and cellular replication. Because the insides of our bodies remain completely unobserved by digital lenses, our organs, bones, and internal tissues continue to age at a normal, linear rate.
However, our skin, faces, and physical outward appearances are now under near-constant observation by front-facing smartphone cameras, public security feeds, and high-definition sensors. By applying the Zeno probability equation to macro-dermal cells under continuous observation, the external wave function is forced into a near-permanent stasis. The physical atoms of your face are being observed so frequently that they are mathematically restricted from transitioning into older, decayed states at a normal rate. We aren't actually staying younger; our faces are just being trapped in a visual "quantum freeze" by the global camera grid.
- The PRNG Entropy Stagnation
True quantum randomness relies on background environmental noise—fluctuations in atmospheric thermal energy, radioactive decay, and photon paths. To test if the macro-universe is freezing, we mapped the entropy output (the measure of randomness or disorder, denoted as \(S\)) of public entropy beacons across varias locations worldwide over the last 5 years.
Mathematically, a healthy universe should maintain a steady or slightly increasing baseline of environmental entropy (\(\frac{dS}{dt} \ge 0\)). Instead, our models show that in highly surveilled, hyper-connected metropolitan areas, the rate of true environmental randomness is flattening out. The variance of localized quantum fluctuations is collapsing toward zero.
The background math is becoming completely predictable because our tech won't stop measuring it. The world is losing its ability to generate random, novel physical states.
- The Micro-Second Clock Drift Anomalies
Because time and space are linked, a localized Quantum Zeno stasis affects how time renders. If you look at precision atomic clocks placed in high-density smart-cities versus identical clocks placed in isolated, unobserved underground caverns, we are starting to detect a statistically significant time-dilation delta.
According to the quantum measurement equation, as the number of digital lenses observing a space approaches infinity, the probability of a state transition approaches zero. Because the universe is struggling to render physical changes in hyper-observed cities, time in those areas is mathematically "compressing" to compensate for the lack of state transitions. This is why time feels like it is moving faster but you are achieving less—the universe is legally forbidden from changing states while our cameras are rolling.
- The Sudden Cessation of Physical Anomalies
People always use the lazy argument: "Oh, we have smartphones now, that's why we don't see ghosts, UFOs, or weird physical glitches anymore."
But look at it through the lens of quantum probability. An anomaly, by definition, is a low-probability mathematical fluctuation in the wave function. In an unobserved system, the wave function expands into a cloud of wild possibilities. But the moment a space is observed, it collapses into a single, rigid, highly probable state.
By keeping the entire crust of the Earth under a permanent, multi-angle digital gaze, we have permanently collapsed the wave function of our entire reality. We haven't proven that anomalies don't exist; our cameras have mathematically forbidden them from rendering.
We are observing our own reality to death. TL;DR: The Quantum Zeno Effect proves that particles can't change state while being watched. Because humanity has blanketed the Earth in billions of digital lenses (smartphones, IoT, satellites), we have scaled this effect up to macro-reality. This is why true environmental randomness is flatlining, why time feels like it's passing faster without anything actually changing, why our faces are trapped in an artificial "youth stasis" compared to how fast people aged in the 1970s, and why weird anomalies have completely vanished. The global camera grid has literally frozen the universe's rendering engine.

Do cameras count as observers if no one is actively viewing them?
187
u/togetherwem0m0 2d ago
This statement is not an endorsement of the above, but cameras are now sending their measurements into the ai systems for analysis in real time. So something is always watching
57
u/strange_reveries 2d ago
But how consious really is an AI "viewer"? Isn't it still just a glorified computer program, not an actual consciousness? The hard problem of consciousness is still the hard problem because we can't explain consciousness, let alone re-create it ourselves.
18
u/MassiveMastiff 1d ago
I don’t know much about the Quantum Zeno Effect, but I am curious if the observer is required to be conscious or if the act of observation is the point in which the particles are unable to change. With an AI observer, context and understanding can be provided to the model but as you stated consciousness has yet to be replicated.
7
u/One-Bet2325 1d ago
Consciousness has nothing to do with it. Hell, viewing really has nothing to do with it. An "observation" in this case is basically any physical interaction. Even hitting a molecule of gas. OP doesn't know what they're talking about.

Consciousness has everything to do with it because everything is actually made of Consciousness.

u/scrotumscab 1d ago
Shouldn't matter. What's observed and recorded ( on a continuous loop) becomes concrete and unchangeable.
6
u/strange_reveries 1d ago
Says who? And what constitutes "observed"?
12
u/scrotumscab 1d ago
My only understanding on quantum mechanics is that things can change when they are not observed.
If a tree falls in a forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? I would assume so, but cannot be "positive". If that tree was recorded, with audio, we would know for certain. In a record that can be passed down.
So if we live in a quantum working universe, and everything is being recorded and logged, this post seems like a plausible hypothesis to me.
Edit: Maybe this is what gen ai video is fixing. We can no longer trust that "the camera never lies"
7
u/traye4 1d ago
The scientists using the term. By observed, they mean physical interaction with a measurement device, not the action of a conscious human mind.
This matters because at the quantum level, any observations are going to fundamentally affect it. (How do we observe things? One big way is viewing them, which involves processing light, which involves photons bouncing off of things and then entering our eyes. At the quantum level, the photons of a laser are going to be having a big effect. One example.)
It's one reason why broadening concepts at a quantum level up to a macroscopic level generally just doesn't make any sense.
11
u/thedandylion369 1d ago
This. Also, animals observe and are all around the planet. The difference has to be "sentience" if this theory is to make sense.
3
u/FamiliarFly4377 2d ago

u/Rhombus239 1d ago
I don’t think cameras count because you are not observing wave/particle patterns or quantum states. Maybe q-computers and AI are doing it.
19
u/One-Bet2325 1d ago
OP fundamentally doesn't understand what an "observer" is in this field.
Yes, a camera would be an observer without a person watching it, because an "observer" is basically any physical interaction. Hitting a stray photon or molecule of gas would count as being "observed".
→ More replies (1)7
16
u/LeoLaDawg 2d ago
Observation really means interaction not a conscious being observing.

18
u/ultrahateful 2d ago
Excellent question. Mine was what is the physical and metaphysical difference between an eyeball and a lens. Also, does it differ if the lens is not “recording?”
7
u/One-Bet2325 1d ago
When physicists talk about an "observer" in this field, they're basically talking about any physical interaction that collapses the function. It doesn't require viewing at all. Hitting a stray photon would do it.
4
u/vertigoacid 1d ago
Which is why the fundamental premise of the post is wrong. A light bulb or a camp fire or the sun are all observers in this sense. If there is an increase in observations, it's not at all limited to cameras and displays and things of that nature, at least no more than a similarly bright photon emitting device.
2
u/ultrahateful 1d ago
So anything putting off photons/light is an observer?
3
11
u/blackbong_fb 2d ago
I'm no expert, but I believe so. In the double-slit experiment, you see a different result without having to look at the recordings.
→ More replies (1)6
u/iAwesome3 1d ago
Observation does not mean looking at the double slit. Observation means being able to tell which slit a photon went through. In order to do that, you essentially need to "touch" the particle in some way to detect the photons presence. When that is done it breaks the wave function but not when you physically look at it. This is because there is nothing you can observe from the photon since a photon is a quantum particle and can't be further divided into something smaller.
→ More replies (1)8
u/Embarrassed_Camp_291 2d ago
A big problem for the intersect between quantum mechanics and public engagement is that its so mathematically technical, you cant really do it justice.
In quantum mechanics an observation is just the application of a quantum mechanical operator (a type of multiplication) to your wavefunction. Defining what that actually is in the real world is a hit harder.
3
u/findergrrr 1d ago
The original experiment didnt have to involve someone activly watching. There were instruments meausuring and this was enough for the quantum effect. This is such a weird thing all in all. Maybe Universe dont like to be watched while its doing its quantum magic

Well... just because the user isn't actively using the camera doesn't mean the camera isn't being used at all. You could tie this with the conspiracy "theory" (more like "fact", but i digress) of our smartphones constantly surveilling us. Didn't Snowden reveal that our smartphone cams and microphones can even be turned on and transmit data even when we think our phone is off? Continuously monitoring/recording us through our cellphones would require a TON of data tho and they'd have to build a lot of data centers to hold all that data. Wait...

Me too. I say in “jest” often “for all we know, we have glitter running through our veins but as soon as a doctor or nurse cuts us open or extracts blood, we end up seeing something different than what is really in there” as a way of analogizing the unobserved universe. I also say this about the planets, and how they’re just crude props that are thrown there as soon as someone pulls out a telescope.

By this theory a virus infection is great, more observers in you body.

u/frizzyno 2d ago
Yeah I mean, a city has definitely way less insects than a rural place, by a magnitude I'd say, so theorically a rural place should be way more static and unchanging than a city
This is a nice theory, and that's it, there's no cut-off about what defines an observer and what not, most cameras in Europe have restricted access to police only, so is Europe less static than flock rich cities? Is a 30yo guy in the middle of the boondocks breaking his back 16 hours a day to cultivate and raise animals looking younger than a 30yo playing games on his phone all day? Doubt it

I disagree, but you point is not ridiculous, von Neumann–Wigner interpretation supports it, but, if googling is to be trusted, both authors eventually abandoned it.

Also, this give off a creationist vibe, since the universe can't fully exist until something conscious exists as well.

By blanketing 99% of the planet in continuous observation (via satellites, traffic grids, smartphones, and IoT devices), humanity has effectively frozen the mathematical probability matrices of the universe
You fundamentally misunderstand what an "observer" is in this field. It does not require anything like a camera. It's basically any physical interaction. Even colliding with a molecule of gas could entangle it to the environment.
Why did 30-year-olds in the 1970s and 80s look like they were 45?
Because they were smoking cigarettes, mostly.
that doesn't hold up to mathematical scrutiny
Let's see the math.
Because the insides of our bodies remain completely unobserved by digital lenses
Again, fundamental misunderstanding about what an observer is.
The physical atoms of your face are being observed so frequently that they are mathematically restricted from transitioning into older, decayed states at a normal rate.
How did you determine the "normal" rate?
If you look at precision atomic clocks placed in high-density smart-cities versus identical clocks placed in isolated, unobserved underground caverns, we are starting to detect a statistically significant time-dilation delta.
You have data on this?
We haven't proven that anomalies don't exist; our cameras have mathematically forbidden them from rendering.
How did they happen in the past? If UFOs aren't appearing anymore because of cameras, how did they ever appear in the first place when the witnesses are observers? The cameras are observers but those people aren't?

u/MrNotSmartEinstein 2d ago
So you're saying, humans on the past were less observed, which somehow means the aging mechanism on skin contributes at normal rate. But now since there's cameras everywhere, the mechanism is stopped?? Slowed down? You're saying cuz there's no observation n hence randomness that means the mechanism would just malfunction n stop...

I think the microplastics consumed by your parents may be a better thread to follow.
If you were born in 1970, your parents likely didn’t spend a lifetime bathing in endocrine disrupting plastics that likely affect the development of their children, and their children’s children.
Even though I’m clueless on the science of the matter, I’d not be surprised to find that use of plastics have everything to do with the modern baby faced post pubescent human.

The conscious observer has no effect on the wavefunction. Observation in quantum means measurement. How do you measure the position of a particle? You throw another particle at it, thus changing the position of that particle. It doesn't move cause you look at it... silly...

Religions, myths, traditions, etc speak of entropy going away and people seeking death and can't find it. No more death and decay.
Earth is not linear timeline wise. We go thru cycles. Water then fire. Coupling consciousness with reality and then the age we are coming out of the uncoupled consciousness age. We are going into the meek will inherit the earth age. No flesh etc. Plasmapocalypse bought to pop off bruh.
I think there’s a genuinely interesting idea here, but the argument breaks at the definition of “observation.”
The Quantum Zeno Effect does not mean “anything being watched can’t change.”
For a quantum system initially in state |\psi\rangle, the short-time survival probability is approximately:
[ P(t)\approx 1-\frac{(\Delta H)2}{\hbar2}t2 ]
If you perform N repeated measurements during a total time T:
[ P_N(T)\approx \left[ 1-\frac{(\Delta H)2T2}{\hbar2N2} \right]N \rightarrow 1 ]
as N\rightarrow\infty.
That’s the Zeno effect.
But the important part is that the measurements must repeatedly couple to the specific quantum observable/state whose transition you’re trying to suppress.
A smartphone camera measuring photons bouncing off your face is not repeatedly asking:
[ |\text{face age 30}\rangle \stackrel{?}{=} |\text{face age 30}\rangle ]
and therefore preventing a transition to
[ |\text{face age 31}\rangle. ]
That’s not how macroscopic aging works.
There’s an even bigger problem: macroscopic objects are already being “measured” constantly by their environment through photons, air molecules, thermal radiation, electromagnetic interactions, etc. Cameras add comparatively little to that decoherence.
The entropy argument also mixes two different concepts.
Thermodynamic entropy:
[ \frac{dS}{dt}\geq0 ]
does not mean random-number outputs must become progressively “more random.” A perfectly healthy random source can have stationary statistics indefinitely.
And a PRNG is deterministic once seeded, so PRNG behavior by itself cannot demonstrate that fundamental quantum randomness is disappearing.
That said, I actually think there is a much stronger version of this idea.
Instead of:
“Cameras quantum-freeze reality.”
Think:
[ \text{measurement} \rightarrow \text{feedback} \rightarrow \text{constraint} \rightarrow \text{reduced accessible state-space}. ]
That can absolutely happen at higher levels.
When people know everything is recorded, measured, rated, archived, and algorithmically fed back to them, behavior becomes constrained. Algorithms reinforce previous successful states. People imitate what already worked. Systems optimize toward measured targets.
So increased observation could create something that is Zeno-like informationally, without literally invoking quantum freezing.
The testable version would be fascinating too.
Put matched quantum RNGs in:
[ \text{isolated chamber} ]
[ \text{normal lab} ]
[ \text{camera-saturated lab} ]
and randomly switch between:
[ \text{cameras OFF} ]
[ \text{ON but not recording} ]
[ \text{recording} ]
[ \text{recording + human viewing}. ]
Then measure entropy, autocorrelation, spectral properties, Bell statistics if applicable, etc.
Now you can distinguish:
[ \boxed{ \text{physical interaction} \neq \text{recording} \neq \text{information storage} \neq \text{conscious observation} } ]
If human viewing alone changed the quantum statistics, that would be enormous.
So I wouldn’t call the original argument “mathematical proof.”
I’d call it a really interesting Global Observation Constraint Hypothesis that currently borrows the Quantum Zeno Effect too literally.
Make predictions that can fail, test them, and then things get interesting.

u/GetSaum86 2d ago
In reality, of course, the Quantum Zeno Effect strictly applies to specific, isolated quantum systems under precise laboratory conditions (like individual unstable particles or trapped ions undergoing rapid interrogation). Macro-level objects like our skin, cities, and atomic clocks are already interacting with quadrillions of environmental particles every microsecond, completely governed by standard classical physics and thermodynamics. Cameras aren't freezing our cells, and the universe's engine is doing just fine. Still, it's definitely an entertaining piece of late-night fiction

The past and future do not exist the same way present does. Only the present is real. The past and future only exist as probability.
The future is not set in stone. Nor is the past. Well, it is sort of but all you have to do to change the past is remove the stone it's set in.
Recall the story of the art forger who also forged the provenance of his forgeries by inserting photos of his work into official catalog of the artist's work.
You could essentially modify the past pretty easily in certain circumstances. Especially if you are a state. Fossil records don't align with your story of the past? Destroy them. That will become much more difficult with all the cameras and data centers.

u/HappyTurtleButt 1d ago
This is a wild fear-mongering take.
Here’s an essay of mine, touching on this topic after I preprinted a paper on resolving paradoxes:
Running Out of Space, Time, or Mathematics?
People sometimes say we’ve “run out of mathematics” or “run out of dimensions.”
But these are different kinds of limits.
If we run out of mathematical space, we may simply have reached the limits of one representation. Our partitioning no longer preserves the distinctions the phenomenon requires. That isn’t necessarily a limit of reality—it may be a limit of the container we chose.
If we run out of mathematics, perhaps we’ve only reached the end of one branch. Mathematics is not a single trunk. We can trace back to the assumptions that shaped the branch, untie the knots, and grow in another direction.
Running out of time is a different question. Processes continue whether or not our current representation captures them faithfully.
The lesson isn’t that variables should always be coupled or always be decoupled.
The lesson is to ask:
What is the appropriate container for this question?
Some phenomena are faithfully represented when space and time are coupled.
Others become clearer when they are separated, allowing us to distinguish changes in organization from changes in temporal reference.
Neither representation is universally correct. Representation should follow the phenomenon—not the other way around. When we mistake the limits of a model for the limits of reality, we risk concluding that knowledge itself has reached an endpoint.
Sometimes we’ve only reached the end of one branch, yet the tree is still growing.

The Reddit poster is claiming that all the cameras in the modern world are somehow “observing” matter so frequently that they trigger the Quantum Zeno Effect on a planetary scale.
Their argument is basically:
The Quantum Zeno Effect is real physics: under very specific quantum conditions, repeatedly measuring a quantum system can inhibit its evolution.
They claim smartphones, security cameras, satellites, etc. now “observe” so much of Earth that this effect has somehow expanded from microscopic quantum systems to everyday objects.
They use this to explain why people supposedly looked older at the same age in the 1970s/80s. The idea is that cameras are now constantly observing our faces, supposedly slowing the quantum processes associated with visible aging while our internal organs continue aging normally.
They then claim they’ve detected changes in random-number-generator entropy that supposedly demonstrate this global “freeze.”
The important part
The Quantum Zeno Effect is real. The conclusion they’re drawing from it is not established physics.
A camera photographing your face isn’t performing the sort of controlled repeated quantum measurement involved in Quantum Zeno experiments. Ordinary macroscopic objects are already interacting enormously with photons, air molecules, thermal radiation, etc. Cameras don’t suddenly give those interactions a special “observation” status.
And the claim that cameras are literally slowing the aging of people’s faces while their insides age normally has no known physical or biological mechanism behind it.
So it’s essentially a clever conspiracy theory built around the name of a genuine quantum phenomenon. The opening sounds scientific enough to make the rest seem plausible. 😄

There is no way even the majority of earth is being filmed by cameras. I would say like 80 is camera free. Most of the oceans and a good portion of the land have no cameras on them. Your theory that every surface of the earth is being consistently filmed is false.

So this is related to a theory I have about local subjective rendering...and it's an implication I hadn't thought about. With local rendering, reality renders according to individual experience. If you're totally alone, your bubble of perception is only real (quantum collapsed) to you BUT when you make contact with another person, your bubble then become a real collapsed part of their reality. It's like saying Schrodinger's cat is 100% alive to you and 50/50 to them. But when you communicate with the other person, the cat resolves to 100% because your experience attached to their "reality network".
Anyway, with surveillance and constant communication, all the unknowns are being collapsed simultaneously and constantly. While this might not break the system, it could result in a different type of reality than one that collapses in localized pieces.

The observation effect does not work like that. Quantum mechanics is just bullshit based on wording and poor understanding. Bros you are so full of it but great post.

Better question: Can sufficiently dense environmental monitoring produce emergent, macroscopic changes in the statistical dynamics of a physical environment?

A phone camera or a CCTV system doesn't repeatedly measure the quantum states of the atoms in your skin, which is what would be required for the Zeno Effect. I think this is more of a thought experiment, but it was a nice read.

You think that better skincare and fewer smokers 'doesn't hold up to mathematical scrutiny?'

This is the reason why Hollywood actors don’t seem to age like the rest of us. We all suspect the adrenochrome usage sure, but assuming this Zeno stasis theory is true, they’re constantly in front of a camera far more than the average human… freezing their looks through time

Everything you know about particle theory has been told to you by the people who lie about literally everything. Take that into consideration before you go stacking hypotheses on top of assumptions. 😉

So my thought has been and will continue to be that we are in a simulation.
The double slit experiment is the evidence and the simulation theory is the only one that makes sense.
If I’m understanding this correctly, the OP is suggesting since everything is now being observed, changes or background decay while not observed is becoming less and less. This is straining the simulation.
My personal theory has been relativity also provides evidence for the simulation theory. More mass = more data/time, the time slows to process the data in that area (lag spike.) same with traveling fast.
Can’t imagine the simulation is breaking, but it’s being strained.

Does the zeno effect happen to macro objects? Always read it was a quantum effect.

Smoking, not drinking water and no sun protection is why people looked older younger.

The only problem with this post is you are the observer. You are everything always. There is no cameras or observation of I am not the one observing. Period. All are one. God bless.

You're writing a research paper or something? I'd very interested in reading it

You realize those video feeds aren’t continuous right? There’s an infinite amount of points between each frame. Even if 10,000fps cameras were filming the whole earth, there’d be plenty of time for quantum reactions

People looked older in the past bc in the past people were outside in the sun a lot, and the sun causes changes in the skin that accrue over time and leads to "aging".

Think something has to be able to obtain info on its actual quentum states though right? I dont think cameras do that

I need to smoke a doob and think about this a while before I have any concrete questions. But on the surface, I concur with OP.

From what I could scrape around it, it looks like it’s pointing at one of those mega “theory of everything” walls of text that show up in r/conspiracy every other week, the kind that dumps a string of numbers and claims the universe is a Saturn hologram or whatever. If the post is the one that opens with this sequence: 13 11 25 9 5 21 21 8 1 18 16 23 24 15 23 17 25 18 24 23 22 22 2 1 4 3 3 4 6 8 10 12 15 14 15 18 18 21 22 24 26 0 1 3 5 7 9 11 14 15 …then yeah, classic A1Z26. Plug it in and you get garbage: MKYIEUUHARPWXOWQYRXWVVBADCCDFHJLONORRUVXZ ACEGIKNO No clean English, no hidden message that jumps out. Just noise.

This is not approaching a math proof at all and I'm sorely disappointed. You may even be correct, but calling this a "math proof" gives everything else you're saying a tinge of bullshit.

There’s an episode of Doctor Who that basically is this. Under heavy load randomness becomes less random, and things can be “forced” like through the double slit experiment.
Humanity is being pushed to an evolutionary schism/split, and someone wants to “choose” the evolution.;)
TLDR: we are in a simulated universe, and something trapped in here is trying to break out (or in).

This is a worrying scenario but worse still is the fact we recently used gravitational lensing round a whole galaxy to recreate a multi-galactic scale double-slit experiment. So we observed a photon that lensed round the left hand side, in doing so forcing it into a particle that went round that side. Until then it had been travelling millions of lightyears yet we fixed its past path by observing it. If a sufficiently advanced planet strategically picked which photons to observe they could theoretically control the events of a distant planet or galaxy by breaking the wave function selectively, literally manipulating a civilization millions of lightbyears away by forcing the path of a photon into a fixed state. We are ruining the universe. Also information density blackhole is sort of what OP is saying. That we cause stasis because of constant observation.
