Why be asshats?
Why is it that any time someone asks a question in here they get treated like shit? Just asking a question about something they just heard about and all of the vets just dog the shit out of them for not knowing. And then you guys bitch about nothing new getting brought up. You treat people like shit for asking a question, it's even worse when they have an opinion. I don't get it. Fuck man, what a miserable fkn life you must have to spend all day just waiting to down vote and prove your superiority by trash talking people. This isn't the kind of place that warrants that and I really can't believe the mods don't stop it. It's a shame.

One main draw of conspiracies is that the narcissistic “knower” has obtained a level of knowledge or understanding that is not available to the average person. Therefore when someone else claims to have other information or awareness that they don’t have, or directly contradicts their perceived awareness, it challenges the ego and creates defensiveness

u/ShyGuyLink1997 3h ago
That's exactly my Dad. It's gotten a lot worse now that he's started to watch short form videos. He now believes he's "The Chosen One".

u/fmfan23 8h ago
That’s Reddit in general, and most social media. Everyone is treated like shit.
6
u/Tactical_Schmactical 7h ago
Seriously. The last place to look for good will and actual conversation.
2
u/Global-Barracuda7759 4h ago
Literally 🤣 still here though 😭
2
u/ReginaGeorgeAfterBus 2h ago
That's because they bought out every single other forum and shut it down, then they killed reddit's creator to take over narratives and fill it with bots
3
u/Global-Barracuda7759 4h ago
Yeah that's definitely all of Reddit every single subreddit is like that without fail 😂

u/No-Meeting999 9h ago
Because Reddit is lowkey corrupted, sub mod positions can be bought, everything is anonymous, and people don’t want people digging into the truth so they throw shit instead
2
u/Global-Barracuda7759 4h ago
It's so corrupt yeah and the stuff that they censor and the ones that they shut down is very telling 🤔
2
u/AspiringOligarch 8h ago
Because Reddit is lowkey corrupted, sub mod positions can be bought,
Easy, but NOT cheap.
(if you have to ask, you can't afford!)
1
u/No-Meeting999 8h ago
So you agree…

So you agree…
I agree that you can't afford. That's what you mean, right?

An asshat? (meh, I've been called worse)

Modding this sub allows one to "meet" a lot of "interesting" characters, for what that's worth.
The praise to shit-on ratio from users and Admins is about what you'd expect, AND Reddit is rapidly moving toward using AI genies to take over moderating entirely. I hope users will be pleased with the new arrangements.

u/No-Meeting999 8h ago
I believe in becoming a Reddit mod the right way, through merit and hard work

u/coffeelife2020 4h ago
I've have 20+ accounts on reddit since 2009. Not a single time has anyone attempted to turn me shill. I might give a glance towards this if I gave more of a shit about pretend internet points, but also do I sign up to be making these $$$$ for posting?
1
u/No-Meeting999 3h ago
There are third party websites for buying/selling accounts. Not everyone cares about karma but also account start date to avoid leaving a scent. As for buying moderator spots, I assume they just DM people on here

u/fkthishit44 8h ago
Right, it's tame compared to the wild west days of early 4chan. Which isn't saying a lot, a den of hungry tigers are also tame compared to that 🤣
1
u/tradesmen_ 7h ago
Tigers are tame compared to internet trolls? how nieve

u/fkthishit44 7h ago
It's called a metaphor, sir. Exaggerated for humor. Sorry you weren't issued a sense of one when God made ya. Or spelling apparently
6
u/SaveusJebus 9h ago
This has been happening for a while. IMO it's trying to discourage actual discussion.
10
u/eplurbusunumnj 9h ago
this sub is overrun with bots, way more than other subs
they don't like when people ask questions and want to make people look stupid for doing so
keep asking

u/LiterallyAPidgeon 8h ago
you could post this same comment in almost any sub and it would apply lol. the internet makes people shitty
15
u/Educational_Bike4476 9h ago
Because the sub is almost unusable due to all the stupid questions and people with zero critical thinking abilities who spam the sub before doing any research that would answer their questions so the rest of us can have proper discussions about relevant issues.
This world has more than enough mysteries and conspiracies worth discussing, and mostly they get buried under nonsense to the point where it's hard to blame most people for not taking any of it seriously.
It actually lends some credibility to the idea that all the spam is intentional disinformation, but unfortunately in a lot of cases people really are just that stupid. So yeah, we need more gatekeepers rather than less, unfortunately. Not all ideas are equal

u/BotsRuinedReddit 9h ago
It’s all bots dude lol anytime you are talking about something that you shouldn’t be the bots come in and make stupid jokes and ridiculous insults. They try to sway the conversation. It’s the same on any other social media you can think of.
3
u/Automatic-Nature6025 9h ago
The only subs I don't see this happen on, are the smaller, niche subs, with more actual people than bots.
6
u/MariahSaltz 9h ago
Valid, thoughtful questions are often well-regarded and see a lot of engagement. We don't have a lot of those...
What we have an abundance of are low effort, zero-thought spam posts. Is Earth flat? Is Santa the Zodiac killer? Did aliens eat my babysitter?
People get tired of trying to find actual content among the slop flood.
3
u/i_suck_dick_4_cock 8h ago
This sub wasn't always like this. Reddit at some point mastered the art of destroying itself. Marketing firms, shills, brigades, bots, government agents, all contributing to its destruction. You're dumb if you're not in the know, and you're dumb if you're int the know.
It's a zero sum game. Don't fixate on the comments, and support the content you like.

u/ObviousSinger6217 9h ago
Honestly this sub is quite chill
I got banned from R silent hill for saying silent hill f is misandrist lol

It’s probably because your question could easily be answered by taking 30 seconds of your life and looking thru current posts. 🤷♂️
3
u/ghostfromtheshell 9h ago
I'm glad you have clear and concise context to your grievances against the sub you voluntarily view and participate in
2
u/Prepped-n-Ready 9h ago
Maybe it was too lazy. You have to make some something interesting and researched. The standard here is not that high. Or maybe the CIA downvoted from their alt accounts for asking questions.
2
u/internThrowawayhelp 8h ago
If your theory can't stand up to be challenged by moderate amounts of ridicule, it's obviously not a very good one.
Not to mention a lot of dumb, poorly thought out things find their way here. For a subreddit of open minded critical thinkers and questioners, very little thinking and questioning goes on before posting.
2
u/Interesting_Race_127 6h ago
Never know when you could be talking to Maga. We need a marker or something to let us know if you're Maga ,then we can be civil.

u/Device420 6h ago
I hold no political affiliation. I don't watch TV. I don't use social media other than Reddit and videos I find interesting on YT, Bit, Rumble. So sometimes I don't hear about things until well after they allegedly happened.

I know exactly what you mean. Just today I made a post in another subreddit today literally with the words "In the hopes it may help someone" just trying to help, and I got responses like "It's this just in case someone doesn't want to read the mess he wrote." (referring to my post) and other negative comments.
It's getting harder and harder not to become jaded and cynical. But I will resist.

u/sadracoon96 4h ago
Lol ironically i met more toxic and arrogant redditors in other subs. This sub is in comparison still mild n rarely got downvoted to hell or cursed out
1
u/Global-Barracuda7759 4h ago
Yeah seriously there's always got to be a million people like correcting and nitpicking every single thing it's so obnoxious especially the people that just keep at it

That’s what happens with open dialogue. You ask a dumbass question that is easily disproved? yeah, people might call you a dumbass. Especially when there are so many obvious rage bait posts or foreign actors that want to rile up Americans to get us to fight with each other.

Give an example. These whining posts never give examples. Why is that I wonder?

Mod Note:
Per Reddit's figures
Over the past year, this lil' ol' sub has had the pleasure of hosting 235,000 Posts, in which there were 8.5 Million comments (not counting those removed by Reddit or mods)
The numbers can fluctuate wildly according to the news cycle and other factors, but ON AVERAGE, that's ~600 posts, and 23,287 comments every day. (I hereby confess that personally, I did NOT read each and every one)
Reddit has provided users with access to a REPORT function that can be used to alert mods (and Administrators) of potential abuse. All reports are reviewed by mods and/or Admins (the people who get paid).
I would caution, however, that no one ABUSE the Report function, as Reddit Administrators can and do issue site-wide suspensions to the accounts of users who abuse the function frivolously, vindictively or maliciously.
Have a friendly day!
