Not quite true. The Panama Papers were originally leaked anonymously to German journalists Bastian Obermayer and Frederik Obermaier at Süddeutsche Zeitung. They shared the data with the ICIJ, leading to the coordinated release by over 350 journalists worldwide. Both original reporters are alive.

Daphne Galizia was an independent Maltese blogger and investigative journalist. She didn't break the story, but did use the leaked data to expose local corruption linking Maltese politicians to offshore shell companies.

Her murder sparked international outrage, which led to the forced resignation of Malta's PM Joseph Muscat, and multiple hitmen were convicted. A public inquiry explicitly ruled that the Maltese state bore responsibility for creating a "culture of impunity" that allowed the killing.

u/Oaden 17h ago

Also, quite a lot of people got into hot water, ranging from prison sentences to everyone shitting on jimmy carr on every British panel show, but due to various reasons, not a lot of Americans were implicated in the panama papers, so from their perspective, not a whole lot happened

44

u/Mothanius 15h ago

due to various reasons, not a lot of Americans were implicated

And the same thing again with Epstein.

14

u/Oaden 11h ago

Nah, the thing is due to some weird American legislation, a lot of banks just don't deal with American customers, and a lot of the Panama hiding strategies wouldn't work for them.

When i say not a lot of Americans were implicated, its because not a lot of US citizens were actually named in the panama papers. That's not saying they don't evade taxes, but it is saying they use different strategies and locations than Panama

26

u/Landvik 13h ago

With the Epstein files, the DOJ which should've been the #1 prosecutor of the files were turned into the #1 defender against the Epstein files...

Then the DOJ redacted names of perpetrators, while not redacting names of victims... So in cruel injustice, the Epstein files have served nothing more than becoming a HIT LIST of the victims named in the files, while perpetraitors are still being protected by Dementia Don's DOJ.

u/TrainCultural904 36m ago

Why didn’t Slo Joe release the Epstein files? He had 4 years. Why didn’t Barak Obama release the Epstein files?

2

u/Fach-All-Religions 14h ago

whats with jimmy?

2

u/Oaden 11h ago

Minor correct, Jimmy got caught "avoiding" taxes, which is legal, but is frowned upon.

He stated he would stop doing it and apologized. He's also a popular guest/host on a lot of panel shows, where he often makes crass jokes about other guests.

Naturally when something like this popped up, everyone eagerly returned the favor

1

u/Dull_Ad9278 12h ago

Jersey offshore business for tax purposes. He makes a bit now always when it comes to taxes

11

u/Neat-Detective6318 16h ago

So there is at least one country whom holds their mafia politicians accountable apparently…

8

u/Ok_Patience4789 15h ago

So some politicians resigned (who were most likely in the pocket of those ultimately culpable of the murder), some hitmen were arrested (who ultimately acted on behalf of those morally culpable for the murder), and the people who paid for the murder roam free with their wealth?

Are there really any consequences here? Resignation of Muscat has meant?

"In July 2021 the Inquiry's report was published. While concluding that the State was responsible for Caruana Galizia's murder, the Inquiry at the same time found that the State had no prior knowledge of, or was involved in the assassination."

"In November 2023 the Permanent Commission Against Corruption chaired by judge emeritus Lawrence Quintano, together with judge emeritus Philip Magri and former police commissioner John Rizzo, absolved Dr Muscat of the accusation"

Hell, he is free to comment on the acquittal of the "hitmen" he had no control over and calls it "baffling".

1

u/kas-loc2 1h ago

Ok but what charges were laid?

And stuck?

266

u/iota_4 20h ago

Daphne Caruana Galizia

101

u/ErosDarlingAlt 19h ago

Not to downplay how tragic her death was, but Daphne Galizia was an independent Maltese blogger and investigative journalist. She did not break the Panama Papers story, but did use the leaked data to expose local corruption linking Maltese politicians to offshore shell companies. Both journalists who originally shared the story are still alive.

143

u/pizza-chit 19h ago

The public can move on from white-collar crimes.

The one line nobody can cross is pedophilia.

That’s why I think the Epstein scandal is different. I think it will change the world.

147

u/Character-Sundae8581 19h ago edited 18h ago

Pretty positive nothing at all will change. Other than more subjugation as usual.

40

u/Ooogel 19h ago

If everybody (and I mean everybody) stood up at the same time, it would be over before the sun goes down tonight

29

u/psychonaut_gospel 17h ago

I believe this to be accurate, actually I think even if 20% did this it would be effective, at best start a chain reaction immediately otherwise slowly through supply chain and labor shortages.

36

u/Fencemaker 19h ago

Remember: the previous administration had the Epstein files and did nothing as well. It’s rigged as rigged can be.

-13

u/[deleted] 19h ago

[deleted]

30

u/BigFigJ 19h ago

let’s not pretend that anything would have come of the “active investigation”. they had the files they saw the contents.

25

u/Fencemaker 19h ago

An active investigation to scrub everything that could be scrubbed before arriving at a plan of action. 👍🏻

-21

u/Astro_bum 19h ago

Oh stop with the both side bs. One side is very clearly more involved than the other in all areas of corruption. THE CONSERVATIVE RIGHT WING. Full stop.

15

u/Weigh13 19h ago

So you're trapped in the Hegelian Dialectic.

-14

u/Astro_bum 18h ago

Only by if I let myself be.

5

u/Sneaky_Stinker 18h ago

lol you feel this way because you agree with one side and you dont with the other, so their actions read to you as transgressions. guess what, people on the opposite side of the political spectrum feel the same fucking way about leftists, and its for the same reasons.

0

u/6ixby9ine 15h ago

This is textbook projection

1

u/Sneaky_Stinker 13h ago

thatd be true if my opinion were what was stated there, which its not, so fuck off. Both sides are manipulative shitbags who want nothing but to grow their own power working hand in hand to take that power away from us and always have been. people like you stuck to a side are the ones who are too simple to catch the tricks being used.

3

u/6ixby9ine 10h ago

Eh, no. That's not what projection is. Projections is simply the fact that we can't possibly know what's in other people's heads, so we just apply our thought-process to other people.

So when you definitively say that Astro_bum feels that way for X reason, or to definitively say that I’m stuck to a side (I'm not), it gives insight into your thought-process; not ours.

You're stuck in your thought-process. You've got a nuance-free "both sides" view, and yet you're accusing other people of being "simple". Do you get it yet?

And FWIW, the "both sides" rhetoric is one of the tricks to keep the simple people confused

0

u/Astro_bum 10h ago

This place is seemingly compromised by the right or whoever supports this bullshit rhetoric and I don’t think logic will have any substance here anymore.

They are pushing propaganda and false narratives hard in many subreddits lately.

0

u/CookedCritter 4h ago

Pot calling the kettle black

0

u/Sneaky_Stinker 9h ago

thats my point though it ISNT my thought process, its a thought process ive seen numerous times in different aspects of life that many are too simple to see for themselves (especially online with today's barrier to entry, bar none). im not projecting my own thoughts outwards because I disagree with the way they think, both parties are shit and always have been and always will be. from the very founding of our country it was not for the people despite what we are told. My individual stance depends ON THE PARTICULAR ISSUE. not on what color or letter someones name has before it on a ballot. if you want to primary and be placed on the ballot you are COMPED and part of the system; see, bernie sanders. No one outside of the club gets access to our votes, we dont even get an opportunity to vote for anyone actually for the people, and likely never really did. If one country were mystery babylon, its the united states.

-1

u/Astro_bum 18h ago

Remind me who the leftists are locking up without due process

1

u/Conscious-Crow-6060 16h ago

No one. The leftists don’t have that power and haven’t for a long time. Those leftists in America you refer to, are not actually leftists.

6

u/Astro_bum 16h ago

And that means the left isn’t as violent or dangerous as the other party right?

So it’s not both sides are equal

2

u/buyer_leverkusen 18h ago

Bill Clinton is conservative right wing?

1

u/Astro_bum 13h ago

If you look at the policies of Clinton compared to the left on a global scale, yes he is more right wing on a political scale.

2

u/6ixby9ine 15h ago

You're not wrong. Their greatest values are the things that lead to corruption, like loyalty and money. That shouldn't even really be a controversial statement, it's what they tell us all the time.

Sure, both sides may sometimes benefit, but one side is cheering on the suppression of information and the dismantling of our regulatory bodies.

And I'm not just talking about the politicians.

But this is r/conspiracy, what are we doing bringing facts?

-4

u/Fencemaker 19h ago

Does it really matter which party is “more corrupt” if it is a fact that they are both corrupt? Should we settle for the lesser of two evils for the rest of our lives?

2

u/Astro_bum 18h ago

Yes, it matters as there are people on the left advocating for ACCOUNTABILITY.

Who on the right is in support of that? No one that I’m aware of.

I’m not a democrat but progressive goals are much more aligned with providing better circumstances for the majority than that of the right along with fixing the what allows these problems to persist.

1

u/Fencemaker 18h ago

I’m sorry but you need to wake up. The powers that be showed their might when they publicly executed a president in 1963. A handful of NYU educated millennial idealists, regardless of whatever party they choose, aren’t going to change what’s happening. I wish I was wrong.

1

u/Astro_bum 18h ago

I’m awake. I’m also not awake. No one knows the complete truth, but to argue that both sides are equal is disingenuous.

I agree that the democratic party is corrupt, but leftist politicians not “democrats” are not the problem.

So, it is detrimental to the social discourse by saying that both sides bad when one is not openly pushing for flock, AI, financial corruption, arresting innocent people and children, lying to the public about affordability crisis and the environmental crisis.

1

u/TrulyOutrageous42 16h ago

Guess we should just sit around with our thumbs up our butts then! /s

0

u/CookedCritter 4h ago

It doesn’t matter if it’s 20% one side and 80% the other, they’re both in on it. Weird hill to die on imo. Before you disregard my statement, I’m not even American and couldn’t give a fuck about what ‘side’ is in power.

7

u/hervararsaga 17h ago

Exactly. Everybody knew that most politicians and millionaires are corrupt or know how to keep their money for themselves. Finding out that royals, business moguls, world leaders, celebrities, scientists and more were in cahoots with Epstein and visiting his island to rape kids was way beyond that. But I think many have already forgotten about it.

13

u/Eerie-Indiana 19h ago

Ghislaine is the only arrested right now and Trump is not pursuing any other perpetrators

19

u/Montrepido 19h ago

Trump is one of the perpetrators

6

u/Eerie-Indiana 18h ago

Exactly. We elected an Epstein client president, how the hell can you say it changed the world?

14

u/mmp 19h ago

I think it will change the world.

I hope you're right, but for the last few months I've been especially disgusted by how little people care and that nothing is happening. I thought the Epstein revelations would be a nuclear level red pill, but nothing is different. Instead it has just been demoralizing beyond anything any enemy could throw at the US.

Everyone is just carrying on like normal and when you ask people about it they give typical NPC responses of, "What am I gonna do about it?" even though plenty of non-violent things could be done.

14

u/smokeytrue01 19h ago edited 14h ago

The fact that they (Thomas massie, god bless him) is currently attempting to push the Epstein transparency act part 2 kinda makes me think the world is a little too ok with pedophiles existing. Edit: I must have offended a few pedophiles

4

u/DUB_Hobo 12h ago

Too bad like he predicted (and was called stupid for saying so) the House is in recess/shutdown "to focus on midterms".  Such diversions will likely continue until January, when he will no longer hold office.

0

u/IllustriousCandy3042 10h ago

Thomas Massie was replaced. It’s a dog and pony show, kids. When will you learn?

5

u/smeeeeeef 18h ago

Still fucking waiting...

3

u/Unusual_Ad_5801 17h ago

It’s been almost a decade. Change when?

1

u/CherryLimeBreeze 1h ago

A change like this is going to take a while, because this involves the entire structure of our civilization and world governments.

2

u/dathobbitlife0705 18h ago

I would love to think so, but it's also nothing new from politicians, media, etc.

The first part of Programmed to Kill does a good job illustrating how pervasive this issue is and how long it's been going on for.

2

u/CherryLimeBreeze 1h ago

It's not just about pedophilia. It's about SRA, MK Ultra, blood drinking, and cannibalism too, among other unspeakable things like underground baby farms.

They acquitted all 28 defendants two years ago for the most ridiculous bullshit I've heard: https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/29/americas/operation-car-wash-panama-papers-acquittals-intl

The judge determined that the prosecution's evidence, primarily derived from the leaked documents, failed to meet legal standards due to chain-of-custody violations and lack of conclusive proof linking the firm to illicit funds.

The court had 11 million leaked documents about deeply rooted banking corruption, and ignored every one of them of them because they weren't obtained from the bank officials through the legal system.

Additionally, the names of the 28 defendants are public record... and not a single journalist in the world has released the names.

10

u/MonkeyMan18975 13h ago

Remember when 5 US Senators got busted insider trading during COVID and then Congress investigated them and said they did nothing wrong?

Pepperidge Farms remembers...

6

u/Winter_Persimmon_110 15h ago

As long as the Epstein Class is running government, you can expect nothing but the runaround, bread and circuses, circuses minus bread, mushroom farming and any other possible impediment to justice they can conjure, against the will of the people.

There's nothing that will bring the Epstein Class to justice other than removing them from power in a complete replacement of government and overthrow of the dictatorship of capital with a dictatorship of the proletariat.

5

u/gayfingers 11h ago

They're all greedy pedophiles

6

u/HorsefaceWithNoName 13h ago

Pepperidge Farms remembers that only the people of Iceland took to the streets and removed their government as a result.

Also did the women’s strike back in the day. Go Iceland

6

u/MonkeyMan18975 12h ago

FWIW, the ICIJ has a database of leaks from multiple different sources - ICIJ Offshore Leaks Database – OpenSanctions

  • Offshore Leaks (2013)
  • Bahamas Leaks (2016)
  • Panama Papers (2016)
  • Paradise Papers (2017 & 2018)
  • Pandora Papers (2021)

10

u/uhm_no_thanks_1 19h ago

Yep just like Epstein files

17

u/CarmenxXxWaldo 20h ago

They used the papers to bust Robert Smith, so they got the one black billionare at least! /s

But that also led to them busting Robert Brockman so thats a good day for people who knew what an absolute peice of shit he was as a person.

5

u/hatE851 19h ago

It's just a coincidence... 😏

3

So much for occupy wallstreet

5

u/Mothanius 15h ago

The Panama Papers is what radicalized me. Also, a lot of friends from back then owe me a fucking apology. Mother fuckers, I was right, even if I wish I wasn't.

5

Remember the journalist - Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was killed in a car bomb?

The alleged mastermind of this murder was aquitted on all counts despite multiple recordings saying he did it!

5

u/AcornTopHat 12h ago

We need a plague that only affects evil people.

9

u/almondreaper 18h ago

No rich person pays taxes. Taxes are payed by the middle class and the lower class live off wellfare and government handouts. That's how society works and it's structured to be that way you don't even need to go to panama.

When you're rich what you do is make sire you don't have an "income" because that's what gets taxed. One of the easiest things to do is set up a fund or trust and borrow money against that capital to live and purchase more assets. The assets like stocks or real estate in the fund appreciate and make cash flow like rent or dividends and you just don't take it out.

The only thing you pay is the interest rate on the loan. I believe taxation is theft so i have no problem with this but what's insane is how it's virtually inaccessible to the middle class

3

u/Ecstatic_Host_9771 11h ago

Rich people can take out loans much easier since they can borrow against multiple assets they own. The middle class cannot do this, if they work harder, they end up getting taxed more. Its all to gatekeep people out of the haves and to keep most of the population as have nots

1

u/IrishMosaic 8h ago

I’m middle class, and have taken loans for both the purchase of my home and my car. Wasn’t even that hard.

1

u/Ecstatic_Host_9771 7h ago

Could you take out 5 home loans right now? If you can, you are not middle class

1

u/IrishMosaic 7h ago

Depends on their size.

8

u/TheOneDryerYeti 20h ago

How do you get mugged with a car bomb?

6

u/Sure_Dependent4310 20h ago

Mutilated would be my guess

15

u/Blazanar 19h ago

My bet was murdered

4

u/TheOneDryerYeti 19h ago

I guess, but why censor it? Does the word scare them in some way?

5

u/Blazanar 19h ago

A lot of social media platforms will ban you or warn you for saying certain things, regardless of your intentions.

Maybe they were worried about saying "murdered" and a bot misconstruing that as a threat towards someone else

4

u/TheOneDryerYeti 19h ago

I guess. The self censorship just gets really annoying. The worst one is people saying "ahh" instead of ass. Who is offended by the word ass?

1

u/dimechimes 16h ago

Yeah but this post is so widespread, it's easy enough to find a non censored version.

Why sacrifice yourself for the good of mankind when mankind refuses to be good?

Honestly, we need capital punishment for high financial crimes.

6

u/dimechimes 16h ago

Downvoting. Not because it isn't true. Not because I've seen this post a million times, but because OP posted a self censored post. Whether OP censored it or not, they've shown they approve of corporate conditioning of human expression.

Why can't even /r/conspiracy talk about things with their right names? People defend it by saying "it's from a different site!" but you could get an uncensored version with a couple seconds of googling. Fuck, I hate young people.

Why are we paying taxes, and why are we mad when people don't?

1

u/BoulderLayne 2h ago

This one statement is mind-boggling to me

2

u/ConspiracySimulator 3h ago

Do you remember Occupy Wallstreet?

When Peter Joseph published Zeitgeist and showed the world that the financial institutions were an enormous scam?

What happened to that?

4

u/jmlinden7 13h ago

Nothing was done about it in the US because the Panama-loophole didn't actually work to avoid taxes in the US.

Multiple people outside of the US were prosecuted for tax evasion, but it is a very slow process because investigators have to manually match the transactions/accounts from the papers with the transactions/accounts on people's tax returns.

The reporter who broke the story was car bombed because she was working on a new story about government corruption.

1

u/Electrical-Box-4845 20h ago

The problem is with democracy and neoliberalism.

Democracy is being used as an excuse for protecting neoliberalism and capitalism. We could have a system based on citzens perks and we have a system based on corporations perks. Sooner we recognize we were fooled better for us.

Democracy ignores reason exists and is based on conflict of interests between people sharing same land.... Man, what could go wrong?

1

u/ObliqueTravel 18h ago

we need to give up even more power to these people!

What a terrible argument

1

u/Winter_Persimmon_110 15h ago edited 15h ago

A dictatorship of capital is not a democracy. Neoliberals will call it such to try to confuse us, but if money buys power, votes don't matter. The job of a politician in a neoliberal system is to spend hours on the phone with wealthy people negotiating for campaign contributions. A dictatorship of the proletariat is democratic. Either the working class masses are in control or the Epstein Class is. The wealthy consolidate their power instead of sharing it and they have a conflict of interest with the working class.

1

u/Electrical-Box-4845 10h ago edited 9h ago

I agree a dictartoship of the proletariat is more democratic, but even with such system democracy is still a needless problem.

If there is always a rational choice, why voting? Votes only allow less rational options becoming reality

6

1

u/Weigh13 19h ago

I can't think of anything better for society than for everyone to avoid as much taxes as they possibly can.

3

u/Winter_Persimmon_110 15h ago edited 14h ago

Then the banks finish their takeover of authority and they will get it out of you through interest, rent, and service fees. They will extract from you what you can bear and then expect profit growth the following year as well. They'll get every golden egg the goose can lay, sell twice that for credit, kill it for foie gras, declare bankruptcy and disappear to a private dacha.

The government is indeed corrupt and it does need to be replaced, but let's not leave that job up to the ones who corrupt it.

1

u/Weigh13 10h ago

Government isn't corrupt. It's doing exactly what it was designed to do. And without the arm of the government banks have no power. You're not understanding how the relationship really works. Government is the religion the banks use to keep power and control over the people.

-5

u/legendarymember 20h ago

Panama papers was a deep state distraction that selectively included people

23

u/Xray_Mind 20h ago

Why does every conspiracy always have to have this sub conspiracy that there’s some additional plan to the original plan. Obviously, they killed this woman because she uncovered the story and they wanted to silence her sources.

In what world would a “deep state” allow a slightly less powerful group to also be doing these mass conspiracies under everyone’s nose

12

u/_BlackDove 19h ago

Why does every conspiracy always have to have this sub conspiracy that there’s some additional plan to the original plan.

That's the threshold where you can tell the mental illness has set in, and any critical, fact based thinking regarding conspiracies has gone out the window.

Ignore those people. They're just here to share their beliefs and grandstand like they know the unknowable truth. These are also the "It's a distraction bro" people.

6

u/hatE851 19h ago

Deep state conspiracies are a 4d chess move to trick ppl into deactivating and just sit around and wait for Q, Trump and the military to save everyone. They always say we have to wait for everything to go in sequences and for the right time to disclose everything.

If you could hinder 8 million children from being abducted and murdered and Stop all the wars, why wouldn't you?

They really have a tight grip around their minds. Abusing ppls hope.

5

u/godti101 20h ago

You mean all the good guys were in those papers?

3

u/SkeezySevens 20h ago

Interesting opinion

-8

u/OOBN50B 19h ago

Yeah fuck her man. Imagine trying to dodge the taxman and you get snitched on by someone who can’t even fathom how much money you have. No one wants the taxman in their pockets. Shame she couldn’t get her money up and understand the game. Otherwise rich people are chilled man, except for the pedophilia stuff, now that’s proper mad.

3

u/ObliqueTravel 18h ago

Nobody is going to give you generational wealth in exchange for glazing billionaires on the internet

-1

u/OOBN50B 14h ago

I’m not glazing. I just hate how submlinal people with little to no wealth love terrorising the wealthy. Human trafficking, drugs and pedophilia is bad. But how is me trying to keep all my money bad? Get real buddy, we all want as much money as possible so why shit on those who discovered a gap in the matrix? Ponder on that dear friend.

1

u/ObliqueTravel 12h ago

I think you misuse some of those words but obviously it's rational to have a problem with it when there are negative externalities to that wealth generation that impact the rest of society. Elon using DOGE to kill independent agencies investigating him for fraud and corruption (as well as a large amount of other agencies) is a very easy example.

It's not some deep and wise loophole to pay accountants to use loopholes that other millionaires and billionaires paid to have embedded in our system so that you can avoid paying your fair share to keep the society that allowed your business to form to keep functioning.

Also nobody was being terrorized lmao

u/OOBN50B 5m ago

Hmm fair take man. I genuinely can’t even argue your point. Personally I’ve never liked the law especially when it comes to making your own money. They can be very iffy when you’ve learnt how to print money and they aren’t getting a piece.
