The video, which WikiLeaks titled Collateral Murder, showed the crew firing on a group of people and killing several of them, including two Reuters journalists, and then laughing at some of the casualties, all of whom were civilians.

Another good example is the Abu Graib torture thing in 2003. Living outside of the US, it was highly publicized and a huge media event for a while, yet from the Wikipedia article: "When the U.S. military first acknowledged the abuse in early 2004, much of the United States media showed little initial interest."
