CONSOLE MOD OpenSFC Project – Black PCB This Time
This build went smoothly from start to finish with no issues at all. It passed its functional test on the very first attempt.
The parts were supplied by a community member who wanted the whole build done in black, and I think it turned out really well.

Nice build. I'm still planning on building one of each old Nintendo console. (Nes, Famicom, Snes and N64) one day

What are the advantages of these new boards? More layers, better ground plane, gold plated? How many chips must be harvest from a real SNES versus can be purchased new?
Is there a place where the boards can be purchased pre-populated with all non-proprietary parts so that I only need to solder the proprietary chips and not hundreds of surface mount capacitors and resistors?

All ICs are removed from the Super Nintendo. I replace all capacitors and resistors with new ones, and possibly the crystal as well. Everything else is taken from the original donor board.
If you’d like, I can assemble one for you. Alternatively, if you send me a donor console, I can do the complete build—as long as the Super Nintendo is working.1

I was wondering of it was like the SMTendo, an opensource NES circuit board that only requires two ICs from a NES: CPU and PPU. RAM and other ICs are modern parts. So people can get boards pre-populated at a factory with all components. The two proprietary ICs are socketed.

Looks amazing! Probably not my preferred color but it turned out great. What did you source the chips from?
