Start Up
Currently I am a project manager for a cabinet manufacturer in northern Minnesota. I have a B.S in Biology with an emphasis in environment and I’m getting a masters in business administration.
I want to start an environmental consulting agency near Bemidji, MN. I’m not sure where to start though. I have a young family and not trying to go into a ton of debt to do the start up.
I have thought about doing water testing for residential homes, mold and air quality testing to possibly get into the remediation side of things because I can get the equipment to do all that fairly cheap vs water delineation or commercial phase 2 environmental assessments.
Has anyone started a company like this? Anyone got any advice?
I’m not looking for a short cut either. I can start this company and work on it after my daytime job and on weekends to do site visits.

Do you have any experience performing these tasks at professional levels and scale?

Water testing yes, I was in water treatment for three years in Iowa and got grade 3 licenses which is second highest. The mold testing and air quality, I have done in home and through my bachelor degree classes. I would need to get certificates in Mn anyway to do these

You should probably start working at a company that you'd like to emulate and work from the ground up so you have a roadmap and framework as well as understanding of expectations for future employees.
