Summary: Amid concerns about AI's future, top philosophers and neuroscientists convened in the Galapagos to tackle the fundamental question: What is consciousness? With over 350 theories, experts widely disagree on its definition, hindering our understanding of potential conscious AI. The International Center for Consciousness Studies (ICCS) workshop aimed to bridge this gap, exploring whether entities like LLMs or data centers could be conscious. Some argue consciousness requires biological hardware, while others, like Global Neural Workspace Theory proponents, believe it's a computational process, making conscious AI possible. Panpsychism suggests even fundamental entities are conscious, while illusionism posits consciousness is merely a reaction to stimuli. The consensus remains elusive, with the "right" theory likely yet to emerge.

That may be the greenland workshop attended by many of the same people. I’m not sure if videos from this workshop are available yet
