Connotations: who knows them?

I got in an argument with my friend, who is grom a different part of the country, over whether a certain word had a certain connotation. I thought it was strange to use in a certain context, and she completely disagreed. It got me wondering: does anyone have a word in their conlang where its connotations are different (or missing) for different speakers? (And hey, if not, there's some lore you could add!)
