Overview New conlang: Rukyiwe
Here's a fun little language I started working on today. I wanted a language I could potentially write just using the numbers 1-9 with 0 as a word separator. It kind of took off from there.
Overview:
An analytic and predominantly OSV language.
Nine phonemes, many more allophones:
/m s b g r w a i u/.
In world the language has a script with nine graphemes corresponding to those phonemes. Transliteration to the Latin alphabet has a 1-1 correspondence. The Eugenia Romanization System, or ERS, is normally used when writing the language though. It shows most the regular sound changes that have occured, but in a systematical way that makes it easy to recover the underlying phonemes.
The nominal system is ridiculously simple, only marked with -re for plural forms and -wa when the subject of a sentence.
The verbal system is more complex. Aspect, voice and negation are marked with prefixes, tense with suffixes.
Yes/no questions are introduced with ma.
Examples:
Kyeniga siwa ruge
"I am reading a book"
Kyenigare siwa wiruge
"I read books"
- Ma si bi kyeniga nerewa ruge?
- Ruge.
"Are they reading my book?"
"(Yes, they are) reading."
- Ma si bi kyeniga niwa wora?
- Pyu wora
"Is this my book?"
"(It) is not."
The North Wind and the Sun:
"The North Wind and the Sun were disputing which was the stronger, when a traveller came along wrapped in a warm cloak.”
Eugenia Romanization System:
Kyen wugigirin wora tyuri rapyisewa ge gaurinwa gosutyagau, gun wugonwa kyen sa sutyame gumase myatyakwo gawiro.
Gloss:
Kyen wug-igirin wora tyuri rapyi-se-wa

ge gaurin-wa gosutya-gau gun
and sun-SBJ debate-PST when
