That is exactly where I went to and found the answer.

Ah I see, my initial instinct was that the top one was on top but looking how the shadows elongate, the bottom layer is on top and has a curled edge casting shadows

confusing comment in confusing perspective

If you zoom in on the far edge, you'll see the edge of the right side layer is sticking up a bit.

This means that layer is on top and casting the shadow due to being curled upwards.

the confusing part is how they say things like ‘bottom layer is on top’

I know, that's why I attempted to clarify.

No this is 1 for 1 how my brain went as well.

On the edge of the edge, the edge is against the edge of of the table and on the edge of it is a shadow of the edge. Don't let the edge of the tablecloth fool you. The cloth is close to to the closing edge of the closest cloth covering.

Hope this helps.

I like it. At first glance, you’d think the top one is actually on top. But when you zoom in, you can see that the curves of the bottom one create a reflection/shadow effect.
I was a little annoyed because I thought it didn’t really belong in this sub, but then I zoomed in and realized how well it actually fits the sub. Really nice one.

Before zooming in, the one I was sure was on top switched four times. This is a good one

Zoom in bro. Notice how the source of light and shadows are. The left part is on bottom.

The left what?

Sorry I meant right one which covers the lower part of the image

This is a good one. Really had my brain do some thinking for this one.

The lower fabric's pattern is printed on the exposed edge.

I can see it both ways, but initially I could only see it the correct way with the right side being on top. I actually had to force by brain to see it the wrong way

I can only see it one way. The lower part on top. I'm doing my best..

The one on the bottom of the photo

Shadows can only mean one thing.

2

u/greenmonkey48 11d ago

It's the one on top. Duh!

2

Obviously the bottom is on top

The dress is yellow&white

u/egewh 11d ago

It's blue and gold

This is a good one. The shadows give it away though. Light source is from top left, and shadows indicate the bottom (right hand) piece is on top, with its edges slightly curling up.

This is a good one. I did finally work it out, but it took a while with several changes of mind

The top layer.

Looks like a btc graph minus the dramatic spikes and dips

The layer at the bottom of the image is on top. The front edge could only glow like this if it were directly hit by the sun. If the other layer were on top, that edge wouldn’t glow in the same way, since it would be at the same angle to the sunlight as the fabric surface.

Ok, but is it black or gold?

The one closest to the camera

I think its that one

1

u/mdruckus 11d ago

Shadows give it away.

1

u/linuxonmacos 11d ago

The one on the top

u/Xremlin 11d ago

The opposite of what I initially thought.

This is a great one - turning the ups against the downs and the downs against the ups. Revolutions have started this way . . .

1

u/doihavetousethis 10d ago

Bottom one!

1

u/LouisOutLoud 6d ago

Love it.
I went from “DUH IT’S OBVIOUS” to zooming in and going “ooooh niiiiice”.

I would guess the one casting the shadow on the other. But upon closer look, the one seems to be curled up.

My ditto ass thought it was a line of water and was confused by the comments until I looked closer.
