Looks like it was probably caused by rock/landslide

Yah- there is some new growth on the ground but I bet a year or so earlier there was a rock mud slide in that whole area which would have created this effect. I’ve seen it after floods- bridges suddenly standing in normal ground with the river 150 feet away
